Hello!
There's a few quirks I've noticed with the captioning in the newest version of premiere pro v24.0
1) Auto-captioning settings don't update: Auto-captioning sounds great in theory, but if you have a really long clip, like a 4 hour livestream or something, it really complicates things. I find that even though the setting for "Automatically transcribe clips" is unchecked in Preferences > Transcription, my transcription window is still polluted with all kinds of randomly transcribed portions of my clip.
2) Static captioning settings are overcomplicated: Manual captioning was fairly cooperative in previous versions of premiere (even though the split and merge segments buttons were never fixed) Generally you could set an in and out point and begin transribing a portion of the sequence with little pushback from premiere. Now you have to sort of find the "generate static transcript" option since it frequently is unavailable. When you finally do get the option to transcribe and check the box for "transcribe in point to out point only", the "Transcribe" button becomes greyed out. The only fix I have found to this is quitting premiere (not just closing the project) but quitting and restarting premiere and then the transcribe button will turn blue the second time around and it will work. (see screenshot)
3. In and out points reset themselves: This is the last captioning related bug I've noticed with recent updates, but it seems that any action you perform within any of the captioning functions, ie transcribing, creating captions, re-transcribing, exporting etc... the in and out points clear and constantly need to be re-established. Hoping there is a way to just make them stay put, maybe I overlooked a new setting?
I appreciate your looking into this and hopefully we can come up with some solutions or possibly some better workflow ideas!
Thanks,
Zach
