I was attempting to open a project file in
Adobe Premiere Pro Version 24.5.0 (Build 57)
The project file is saved on:
Skandisk drive
Capacity 4TB
Available 2.09TB
Format ExFAT
The source files and the project files live on the same external drive.
When I unplug the drive from my editing partners MacBook and plug it in to my Mac mini to work on it. I get the following error before I am able to even view a loaded timeline:
"Force Quit Applications
Your system has run out of application memory.
To Avoid problems with your computer quit any applications you are not using."
The only application I have open is Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 (not responding) 99.03 GB
I was able to use Premiere Pro without it crashing when I was not using the drive.
The drive and the project file are not corrupt because they still work on my partners computer

Hi @katiav90713862,
Thanks for tagging me. I'm sorry the step of importing the old project into a new project did not work for you. Downgrading your project worked, though? Wow, good, thanks for telling me.
The issue might be related to a bug with specific media and how Premiere Pro interacts, or you might have a corrupt media cache. If you still have 24.5 installed, press Shift at launch to open the Reset Options dialog box. Clear the media cache from this dialog box, and let me know if it wo
...Hi @Stephen384591249ysd ,
Could you please try the latest 25.2 Beta version, and confirm the status? We have tried to reproduce this issue at our end, no issue so far.

Perhaps it's related to the quality control issues on all recent SanDisk external SSDs? These drives have a habit of failing due to a chip on the drives' circuit boards breaking off. And these drives cannot be properly repaired without wiping out all data.

Based on RjL's technical reply, try to move the project locally and edit from there.

Thanks for writing the bug report. If the project is working on the more powerful Mac, then that may also be pointing to a performance problem. If you are editing a sequence with large frame-sized footage, like 4K or the duration of the sequence is on the longer side, that can also be a problem having less RAM.
We haven't heard back from you yet, so please let us know if you make any progress on the problem.
I am sorry for the issue.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin - any update on this? I am running Premiere 24.5 (Build 57) and moved my project to the desktop to test this out. The Memory stills climbs and doesn't go down. I haven't touched Premiere in about 5 mins and the memory is still hanging out around 38GBs. If I do more - it just goes up until it crashes usually with reports in the 100's in terms of memory usage. This is bananas as I have had absolutely no issues like this with very similar footage on 2023.

Hello @katiav90713862,
I heard you need assistance. Can you try creating a new project and importing the older one there? Let us know if that works for you.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @Kevin-Monahan thanks for the reply. I honestly got so frustrated yesterday and actually tried the "new project" trick but to no avail was still getting this issue. I basically used a tool online to downgrade to 2023 and once again, 2023 has been working like a charm. So as of now I'm good, but I really don't know why that is happening in 2024. In my research yesterday I saw that people were having similar issues back in like 2018/19 with the memory override, so this little bug must just be back in 2024. *shrug*

Hello @katiav90713862 what is the name of the program you found online to downgrade from 2024 to 2023? I am having the exact same issues with my project file. I have cleared the Cache, I have deleted old project files, created room on my computer and Hard-drive, yet I'm still getting notices that my system has run out of application memory. What can be the problem?
@Kevin-Monahan would you please be able to assit me?
