For some reason Premiere keeps freezing for a few seconds when I want to play my video. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens enough to be very annoying. Sometimes Premiere even goes to "Not Responding" mode. I have sufficient specs (RTX 4060, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 2TB storage), but it still has these issues. It doesn't even seem to matter if there are many effects on the clip being played back; it still has the problem. Someone please help because this is wasting hours of my day that I can't afford to lose.

You don't list the most crucial things, your CPU and the media involved, plus the discs in use.

My chip is an Intel i7 13th Gen CPU. I'm not sure what you mean by discs in use. The media is 1080p 30fps from my phone.

Which CPU specifically, as it matters.

Is the 2 TB drive a fast SSD?
Is it the only drive?
How much free space on the drive(s)?

It is fast SSD. It is the only drive. I just got the computer so there is still basically 2TB remaining.

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. Do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).
If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thank you so much! The driver I had was outdated and was the gaming driver. I switched to the updated studio driver, which decreased the amount of freezing a lot. But then I realized I was accidentally on the beta version of premiere, which for some reason was capping my memory usage at 16GB. I switched to normal premiere and it's pretty much completely smooth.

Sorry to bother you, but I was opening Premiere today and somehow the freezing came back. To try solving the freezing, I rolled back to Premiere Pro 2024. This fixed lag while scrubbing through my footage, but Premiere still freezes occasionally when I want to playback and quickly turns into "not responding" for a few seconds.

I found what the issue is, and I couldn't find anything about it on the forums. For some reason, muting audio tracks or cutting a clip causes playback to freeze. There might be other things causing it, but there are the ones I've seen. I have no idea how to fix this so help would be appreciated.
