Please tell us your system specs: OS version, Premiere version, amount of RAM, Hardware specs including graphics card and your source properties and sequence settings. Not sure exactly how you're doing this. Are you adding an "adjustment layer?" And if so, what effect(s) are you applying to it? Have you tried using the Lumetri panel rather than adding another effect?
As a troubleshooting step, remove this effect (however you've applied it) and see if the timeline will render. Might be another issue entirely.

Hi Michael, thanks for your answwer. Specs as follows: Win10 64Bit, Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro P1000,
General
Edit mode: DSLR
Timebase: 29.97 fps
Video settings
Frame size: 1920H 1080V (1.0000)
Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel aspect ratio: Square pixels (1.0)
Fields: No fields (progressive scan)
The video I took was a little to dark so i added an adjustment layer to increase the brightness. As it didn´t work I deleted it, exported the video and repeated the whole step with the rendered mp4 file. That worked well. So the issue is still not solved but finally I got the video as I want it. Hope the information is helpfull.
Kind regards
Christian

workarounds are lifesavers... so glad you were able to get over the hump, but if you want to avoid this issue in the future:
you didn't tell us your source codec is... and did you apply an individual effect or use the lumetri panel to make the adjusment. mp4's are heavily compressed and are great in terms of file size but can cause issues. Transcoding to what's called a "mezzanine" format like prores can sometimes improve your workflow. Of course, this takes time and media file sizes can balloon... If any of this doesn't make sense, post back... I've been editing for way too many years starting back on an upright moviola (google it if you don't know what it is) and I'm still learning as the technology changes...

The source codec is also mp4. Thanks for your help. I will try to use the lumetry panel instead of the adjustment layer. And I will also try transcoding it to a different format. Thanks again and have a nice weekend.
