replace, or delete and redo, a transcription

Enthusiast ,

The transcription tool is a game changer!

Is there a way to delete and redo a transcription? I did a transcription of a stringout where I didn't separate speakers and need to redo it.

I also had a project where I was trying to play back a different sequence while a transcription was running and the project crashed. After that, the project would crash multiple times when I tried to finish transcribing the first sequence or start transcribing another sequence.

Hey there,

Are you OK now then, @KazuTa?

Cheers,
Kevin

Can you start a new project? If not, then you can create a new project and IMPORT the faulty project in.

Be sure to delete the cache files (hold down shift when starting PP from the regular icon). Do that before new and import.

@MyerPj Thanks for these options regarding the constantly crashing project. I'll try them next week when I'm back at work if the project continues to have problems transcribing. I copied the project onto an external drive to try to finish the transcription on a different computer, but it looked like most of the transcriptions were finished.

@MyerPj I imported the project into a new project; still crashed. I cleared the cache; one transcription finished without crashing. Tried another transcription; it crashed.

I'm on a Mac Mini 2024. I tried transcribing on a Mac Studio 2023 - no problems. Here are the specs of the two macs:

Mac Mini 2024, M4 Pro, 24 GB RAM, Sequoia 15.1.1, Premiere 24.6.3 (Build 4)

Mac Studio 2023, M2 Max, 64 GB RAM, Sonoma 14.6.1, Premiere 24.6.4 (Build 3)

Interestingly, Premiere on the Mac Mini is 24.6.3 (Build 4); on the Mac Studio, it's 24.6.4 (Build 3). I wonder if updating Premiere on the Mac Mini will have any impact. I'm thinking, for some reason, the Mac Mini is a little short of horsepower? My editor transcribes on a different Mac Studio and has never had problems.

To replace or redo a transcription in Premiere Pro:

  1. Load your source files into the Source Monitor.
  2. Open the Text panel.
  3. Click the three dots (...) in the top-right corner of the panel.
  4. Select Re-transcribe Clip from the dropdown menu.

You'll then be presented with the option to label separate speakers.

In PP 2024, when I click the three dots, re-transcribe clip is not an option.

Is it greyed out or not in the list at all?

Can you share a screenshot of your application window?

Hmm. Suddenly, the Re-transcribe option showed up. Maybe the option didn't appear at first because the transcription had just been done? In any case, it's there now.

I just did a new transcription. The Re-transcribe option is greyed out:

As far as Re-transcribing, it looks like I have to wait a day or so before the Re-transcribe option becomes available? Currently, the option is greyed out on all my new transcriptions. I'll check back in tomorrow.

As far as Premiere constantly crashing during transcription on my Mac Mini: I updated to Premiere 24.6.4 (Build 3). I was able to transcribe much more before it crashed. So, it's seeming like I need to use a Mac Studio when transcribing?

Maybe transcription crashes on my Mac Mini because the Mac Mini has an M4 Pro chip? The Mac Studios on which it runs OK have M2 chips.
