I'm getting extremely slow imports with WAV files into my project. No matter which way I import a WAV, it takes up to 20 seconds to import one file. Premiere freezes and shows the busy icon the entire time.
My system:
Windows 10
Intel i7-5960X @ 3ghz
32gb RAM
OS drive: Corsair 240gb SSD
Project drive: 7.2gb RAID 0 on 2x4tb WD Black Drives
Any ideas on why this is happening?

It didn't seem to change anything on my end. I'm seeing 20 mins+ lag. Import progress bar fills normal speed but once it's full, I get the spinning rainbow wheel and the app registers as "Not Responding". If I wait patiently, it does finish importing eventually anf the app comes back to life.
I'm not sure that your issues is related to this topic. Looks like you have some other issue. Perhaps try deleting your prefs, clearing your premiere cache etc. Also check your drives to make sure they are optimized/TRIM is running on SSD's. 20+ mins is way longer than the issue I had which tapped out just under a minute. Do you have any plugins installed? Perhaps a codec issue?

It may be a separate issue. I've contacted Adobe and they were supposed to follow up, but I never got the call and 3 weeks later they changed my ticket's status to "Closed". I'm trying to contact them again; truth be told, I've been working with Adobe systems 10+ years now and the low level of professionalism I've experienced from them in the past month is close to convince me that they can no longer keep up. We've been having a very hard time since 2017.1.
As far as drives, we are working with a mix of SSDs and highly-powerful RAID, and although our main footage is 8K R3Ds, we did not have any problem working with them in the past. No plugin, and we have reinstalled both the apps themselves AND the operating system, as well as cleared all cache/prefs on numerous occasions.

My slow imports are back again not sure what the heck is going on very frustrating

Is it just on our systems but some days the imports are much worse than others. Is there something in the background happening involving all the cloud stuff Adobe has going?

It would appear that I'm just lucky my import issue has been solved with the latest update. I have, however, noticed many more exporting issues since this update. Usually around lumetri and gpu acceleration, which worked perfectly before.

Well, the slow import is back with a vengeance. Don't know why it's sporadic, but the slow import issue is back and though it's not as bad as the first instance, it's still pretty well unacceptable.

I find if I start a new project under this latest release imports are slower but manageable however if I go into a previous versions projects that is where my import headaches really kick in

I am in the exact same boat. I am on brand new HP Z840 dual 10 core, 64 gigs of ram, GTX 1080 TI, extremely fast raid. I am close to returning my brand new set up because it's not working anything like what it should with what i paid for it. And it's just over a simple import that takes 1 whole minute to import a 15 second audio clip.
What on earth is going on adobe?

On another note and even weirder is that when I click on a clip in the media browser to preview the clip it loads extremely fast. But then when I go to import it into the project it takes forever. It seems like there is some type of fix for this problem given the fact that it is loading so fast in the preview monitor.
Any ideas at this point would be helpful.

There is absolutely no excuse for a file import taking 60 seconds. Maybe this would make sense if this version of Premiere was running on a computer from 1995, but with a high end computer from any time in the last 5 years, it should be instantaneous.
This is a brutal bug. The latest updates do not fix it.
Adobe needs to focus on solid software, not adding as many features as they can cram into every update. Ultimately, editing software needs to be reliable.
I'm demanding a refund of my Creative Cloud license fee for every month this bug remains.... And all of you should do the same.
Fix your software Adobe! We're not your beta-testers!

I couldn't agree more - I've had enough of being a freaking beta tester for Adobe. I do not have time to spend days importing footage!!!

Dear Adobe - what is up with the slow imports! This is insanely frustrating. It is quicker for me to download Resolve, import, learn a new program, and export my deliverables than attempt to load data into Adobe Premiere Pro 2018 - seriously non stop crashing, endless extra peak files. I've paid good money to you for a long time so you shoudl remember something - I'm your customer, not your beta tester. I think this will be the end of my editing on Adobe.

They closed my support case without notice for the second time, after having me wait for a few weeks with not update.

Currently having a nightmare of a time with this, import just hangs with an indeterminate progress bar. Can't seem to find any way to import another sequence into my project without this happening

Same problem here as well.
Simple .wav files not only take cup coffee worth of time to import, but I'm also having issues where if I do a Audio Gain adjustment on that particular file, it crashes Premiere entirely.
I think in this day and age of free and feature rich software (such a Resolve) and affordable solutions like Avid around the corner, we shouldn't have to pay for beta software.

2017.1.2 seems to fix the issue for me as long as I don't drag and drop media from outside the app directly in the timeline. Media browser import is back to normal and that's a huge weight off.

I am having the same issues. Its taking 20mins to import media from the Media Browser also! Ive cleaned the Cache and done everything i can to optimize performance. It was all working fine and then over the course of a couple of days after updating the software to version 2017.1.2 V11.0 the Media Browser started lagging and now media imports take 20mins! Why are Adobe not responding to this issue!!! Im working on a tv show thats got serious deadlines every week and now this happens and puts me behind schedule! Not good!

Me also! Same thing... With this kind of problem, deadlines are just to forget...what to say...really really desperate! I tried everything possible and unimaginable to solve this issue but nothing. Adobe, this is the last time I am doing a purchase of 25 Adobe Premiere for project. I really regret it now! I wish that I can move on Avid now but I can't
One more think to add: This problem is not present on MacOS. I have 3 machines and those one are helping me a lot right now! MacOS ditors needs to import sequences for all other editors (16 of them) to be able to work normal!

I have exported project into fcp xml, reinstalled old version of premier i.e., 2015, imported xml, working fine. But cant enjoy the advantage of pr 2017

Sorry to hear that you had to do this in order to get a functioning program. Most projects don't turn out well when exported to XML.... as that just keeps basic info about the edit.

Slooooow imports have been the name of the game on all 3 of our Mac OS systems. Lord help you if you have to import 500GB of R3D footage.

I'm stuck between Resolve 14b9, which can import 5+TB of R3D media and BWAV files in about a minute, but crashes constantly when I try to do anything with the multicam timeline I've created from that session, and Premiere Pro, which in the past 20 minutes has moved the progress bar about 20% of the way forward. 2+ hours to import media!?
Copy link to clipboard
Copied
Ugh. I spoke too soon. It took more like 8 hours before the progress bar for the import completed. But now Premiere Pro is spinning the beach ball and using less than 1% CPU. It's not using excessive memory or anything else. It's just deadlocked waiting for something that's never going to complete. What it is, I cannot tell. At least Resolve crashes instantly, rather than taking a whole day to wander off into the weeds.

Having the same issue... Drag and Drop is too slow.... Import from FILE - Import is also very slow... This is a Nightmare...
I don't understand why they update when there are obvious issues...
another nightmare: How come they never finally make a within folder cache for each project. ??? I work on multiple projects and different HDD each. So there is no way I could keep in one location the cache... Specially when working with my laptop... They should put an option so create cache in a single folder... I know they have the create cache files next to the source files but that is another nightmare...why? because each clip folder becomes too crowded with those files you never use.. so it is very inefficient...
Please Fix those Abode... we pay a lot of money for this!!!
Thanks
