Preface: Newbie switching from FCP so I may be missing something.
Background: Learned the hard way that I can't create subclips from a sequence timeline -- what I thought were forty subclips were actually all full clips of the entire sequence. Now I'm doing it in the Source window and it's irritating.
Question(s):
I would be delighted to find I'm just doing it completely wrong and would welcome, "You're an idiot -- just do this."
I'm not sitting in from of the program but here are 2 things to try.
1 - You should be able to make a sub clip on the timeline. Set your in and out points and right click on the clip. You should see "Make a subclip" as an option.
2 - as far as the "entire clip" issue - that is a feature, not a bug. It was instituted to allow you to alter in and out points if you forgot to leave room for transitions, etc. If you want to restrict the clip you can. On the dialog box that opens for making the subcli

On the dialog box that opens for making the subclip you can select or deselect a check box to limit the clip to the I&O or keep all the clip available.
Hope that helps

As to viewing Source monitor & scopes at the same time, create a custom workspace by dragging the scopes to a different panel. I know some who figure that for much of their initial work they want the Source monitor and scopes, so they drag the Scopes tab over to join the Program monitor, so that while assembling they can choose between Program monitor & scopes to show along with the Source monitor.

I can so not sure why you cant! Not sure what to suggest to you outside what Image Design told you though. Its pretty fundamental.
@Neil. I think he means audio waveforms.

Ahh ... that would be different now, wouldn't it? SO glad you hang out here to catch me, I'm rather ... color-filtered?

- Is there really no way to view the video and waveform simultaneously in the Source window?
There is not. One or the other only.

- "subclip" of an entire sequence
That's not possible. Subclips can only be created from clips, not sequences.

What I mean by "sequence" is I have my original mpg placed on a sequence timeline. I'm not trying to make a subclip from a sequence placed on a timeline. Hopefully, that makes sense.
