Hi.
I have a 4k clip recorded in HEVC, when I import into premiere, only the Audio shows.
Importing the same clip into other NLE's such as Vinci Resolve 16 no problem.
When is Adobe going to support this format?
May I please have a reply from Adobe Staff. I have seen many messages about this on the forum but nothing seems to get an official reply. I have used Adobe for 20+ years and currently paying a monthly subscription so I do expect at the very least a reply.
After 20 years I don't really want to move to another NLE but the possibility is getting closer having evaluated Vinci Resolve recently and quite impressed.
As it stands today, I cannot edit my HEVC in premiere, sorry state of affairs.
Thanks
PROBLEM SOLVED
Something Ann said that HEVC is apple only got me thinking. Having searched the issue, apparently, windows did support HEVC but at a recent update it dropped support for it (no idea why they should do this) but you can BUY it back again in the Microsoft store so 79p later
all is fine!
Sorry for assuming this was an Adobe issue and thanks to everyone for your help.
Thought of an improvement to PP though, when you try to import a clip and it does not work an appropriate message be displ

HEVC is supported, see below:
Adobe Premiere Pro System Requirements
Upload a short clip to test.
Post computer specs, OS and Pr build.
Might want to use proxies as H.265 is heavily compressed (and VFR?)

Hi Ann
Thank you for your reply. My system meets all the system requirements and has 32gb memory. Vinci Resolve can handle it
My windows 10 is fully up to date and Premiere is 13.1.2
I would prefer to have this fixed by Adobe and not use alternatives as proxies etc.
No video as this message system only seems to allow videos from web rather than local drive so have included mediainfo below
What is VFR?
Thanks

Your footage had Variable Frame Rate that might be an issue.

Does Adobe not support VFR when all other NLE's I have tried does???
I just watched a video about proxies
How to use Proxy Files to Edit SUPER FAST in Premiere Pro! - YouTube
As far as I can see I need to import first then create the proxie. Chicken and Egg - when I import only audio comes in???
Thanks for your help

Hi cjacs,
Sorry for this. Can you upload a sample file so we can inspect it? Which camera did it come from?
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin
Thank you for your reply.
How do I upload a video? on this message system I can insert images but it asks for a url to add a video?
The clip was recorded with Filmic Pro app on my Samsung Note9 phone. If I record using AVC no issues, just HEVC has the problem.
I can view the file in various media players and other NLE's

Chris

Chris,
Nobody can really have it both ways, unfortunately. Not even the makers of other NLEs, as a matter of fact. You see, Premiere Pro and other "professional" NLEs started life as programs that target professional filmmakers who could afford the most expensive cameras that record entirely uncompressed digital video. Today's compressed formats and variable frame rates have later been tacked on as extras. The problem is that if one program started supporting way too many formats, the program gets overly bloated and (sometimes) unstable. But Adobe is one of the few who don't want to let go of certain "legacy" video formats just to add support for modern codecs. Some other companies have been forced to scrap legacy codec support just to add support for current and future codecs.
The cheapo "consumer" video editing programs, such as Premiere Elements, are better at this than professional NLEs are because they do not support the "legacy" codecs much if at all.
So, as unstable as Adobe's software is (for some users), if other NLEs maintain support for as many codecs as Adobe has, then those other NLEs woulld have been equally as unstable as, if not more unstable than, Premiere Pro.

Hi
Thanks for your reply and yes I would like it both ways.
I just want it to work. I have used premiere about 20 plus years and they have been known for keeping up to date
With developements in codecs etc etc.
Why would adobe drop support when it is clearly possible to do this as other companies have done so.
If adobe do what you say (I await kevins confirmation) then I must consider a company that keeps up to date with what the customer wants

Hi Chris,
Sorry about the format issue.
This may help: No Video — Audio Only Import Issues
Most people upload sample clips to DropBox or Creative Cloud.
If you don't want everyone looking at your video, you can send me the link via private message here Kevin-Monahan

Hi,
Thanks so much for the PM you sent with the link. I inspected the file and it imported into Premiere Pro 13.1.2 without issues. I think you may have another issue. Can you make sure your tracks are patched correctly?
See this video tutorial:
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thank you for checking this, it is at least encouraging it works for you. Does this mean Adobe DOES support VFR? Are you checking on a windows machine?
Patching is not the issue, as I cant get passed import. When i import into the bin only audio shows

Thought of an improvement to PP though, when you try to import a clip and it does not work an appropriate message be displayed,in this case 'no codec' would of been a great time saver.
Thanks again everyone and especially Kevin for looking at the file
