Disable Offline Media Scan completely

I use the same "project file" for everything, i just swap out or add new videos.

I know the "offline" videos are missing, I deleted them from the timeline.

Now after updating, when I go to export, i get issues about offline items that are not on the timeline, just in the folder. It should be clear they are not meant to be in the video.

"remove all offline videos" would help as well, i have hundreds in one file

You may not be aware, but PrPro totally operates by metadata.

Your sequence is simply a text/metadata listing of clips from bins with X segments used with Y effects.

Note, it references clips or assets in bins of the project file.

If you don't delete from the project file/bin, you have not deleted the item from the project.

So that's where you need to do the deletion work, not the sequence.

Definitely unaware and still unclear why what is in the bin has anything to
do with exporting from the timeline

Is there a way to access the metadata and delete all "offline" files by
text?

my interest is in never being asked about "offline" files.

If i could disable the "project bin" completely I would, i use the space in
the sequence outside of the selected time for storing clips

ALL assets used in Premiere projects "live" in the project file. They are shown in the Project panel, however you choose to organize it.

And it is the Project panel where you need to handle deletion of any assets. Period.

Nothing lives only on a sequence.

Lol I do, unless I'm forced to visit the project panel to delete items due
to that unnecessary scan

will just create blank a template and delete everything each time until the
theory of an off switch is not an abstract one

It's a basic, simple design. It works quite well, and is actually something that makes sense.

Assets are frequently used on multiple sequences, and also need different usage for things like color space transforms, effects, all sorts of things.

Which is normal behavior. You want to delete stuff? Easy peasy.

Select a bunch of things in the Project panel, delete.

Wanna make a new sequence? Drag a clip to blank timeline panel is one of several ways.

All quick and efficient and totally logical.

For you perhaps, but for the 15 seconds long videos i am creating

a - none of that is necessary
b - i do not want to do anything with the already deleted videos, including
delete them inside premiere

I want to start the app, drop the next video in, hit export, move on to the
next task

The program decides that videos previously added to the sequence but
deleted from my computer are important enough to alert me

I Do Not, i deleted the video from my computer, intentionally.

If others use setups in which "offline files" are important or cause an
issue, great, i would like an off switch for the scan or alert

I would like it to say, this file no longer exists and ignore it or remove
it from the project list if I check that currently not provided option.

@mykeymaker Are you talking about this message:

Screenshot 2024-09-28 at 10.41.38.pngIf so, you're correct. You should only be seeing that message if you are trying to export a sequence, where that sequence contains clips that are offline. It should not appear if everything in the sequence is online, but other clips in the project are offline.

So if you think there are no offline clips in your sequence and yet you still see this message there are two possibilities:

  1. There is in fact still some material present that is offline
  2. There's a bug

There's an easy way to check #1. With the sequence you're trying to export open and in focus (have the blue outline around the panel) go to File > Link Media. If Link Media is disabled, then there are no offline clips present in the sequence. If Link Media is enabled, then there are offline clips. Click Link Media and you'll be shown a list of the clips that are in the sequence still.

One thing to check for is nested sequences. If you nest sequence A which has offline clips inside of sequence B, then export sequence B, you'll be notified about the offline clips in A.

Finally, you can also open your sequence, choose Edit > Find and set the first line to "All" contains "Offline" and click Find All or Find and that should jump you to the offline clips, because there is a metadata column called Status that reports Offline.

Hope that helps!

Helps WHAT!?

I NEVER WANT TO SEE the word, the popup menu or warning about OFFLINE MEDIA

I am not looking for missing files, I MADE THEM GO MISSING

It happens EVERY single time i open Premiere because i have it set to open
the last file used

The Offline Media "popup" when premiere is first opens features zero ways
to delete or ignore "OM", just cancel or replace

@mykeymaker your original post was talking about being warned about offline material when you export.

If your concern is being warned when you open the project, that's a little different. Premiere Pro tracks offline media in a few possible states, which you can control. If you want clips to stay in the project but to be offline, and to not warn you on project open, you can do that. You just need to click the "Offline" button in the Link Media dialog. This tells Premiere Pro that you want to leave them offline and not be warned. If instead you click Cancel, you will continue to be warned about them.

Go to your Project panel in List View and find the Status column. If you don't see it, right click on the column headers, choose "Metadata Display..." and turn on the Status column there. Here's an example of what the Status column can show for Offline clips:

Screenshot 2024-09-28 at 11.23.30.png

If the status says File Missing, Premiere Pro will warn you when you open the project. If the status says "User Requested", it will not warn you. So the next time you open your project and get the Link Media dialog, choose the Offline All button. This will set all those clips to Offline: User Requested, and you will no longer be warned about them when you open the project.

Thank you, that will hopefully help with the current nag and blocking of
export

My Concern is, an option in the preferences panel to completely disable all
"offline media" related functionally

Just something to be aware of ... your project file will continue to get bigger over time, as all that metadata is still there, you just aren't getting notified. FYI ...

Totally fine, the size of the project file is of zero relevance for me and
i can read it myself and choose to delete the "missing" files from the
project if it becomes an issue.

This is a matter of basic file management outside PPro.

In order to create a Project Template that you wish to re-use, I use the following method:

- Save the current project

- Next, save the project under a new name (e.g. my_template.pproj)

- Remove all the clips from the project: not just in the timeline, but also from the project bins

- Save the project under the new name

Everytime you start a new project, copy the my_template.pproj in your Explorer folder, so you keep the clean version. Rename the copy to whatever the new project is supposed to be named and open it up in PPro.

Hope this helps.

Thanks but, 20+ using Adobe, I can create a template, just not an OFF
SWITCH in preferences.

The first thing i do is disable notifications, updates, and a list of other
"features" on All devices when i get them.

My OS will not update or notify me ever, because i modified user & group
policies, day one. Customized for my process

I do not want to be notified, alerted, reminded or given tips over
something I intentionally deleted, EVER

If someone can not remember, or properly operate the delete button, the
feature to check for Offline Media exists

For my process,

I do not need it
I do not want it
I do not like it

so, i am simply asking for the option to turn it off, period!

I did not ask anyone to solve anything except, creating an OFF SWITCH for
OFFLINE MEDIA in preferences

something i can not do, unless i want to attempt to decompile, modify and
recompile Premiere everytime support dies on my version...
