P: Scrolling / panning in the Program Monitor

Community Beginner ,

[Moderator: This thread was originally titled "Premiere Pro 24.4 Program Monitor Scrolls". It's been updated to make this thread easier to find. We appreciate - and are listening to! - your feedback on scrolling / panning in the Program Monitor]

I just noted after the 24.4 update, My source & Program monitor up & down rollers/scrolls on the sides just vanished or missing. Not sure if this still part of the zoom in, zoom out or use of hand tool new updates which has cause this to be removed or a bug - but, kindly let me know if anyone has experienced this issue. The screengrab below.

Hello Community,

Please also upvote this bug: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/ability-for-disable-program-monitor-zoom-settings/idc-p/15089641.

It's for the ability to turn the feature off to prevent unwanted incidental screen zooming. This thread seems to ask for multiple things, so it may be confusing which Idea to upvote. I say, upvote them both.

@Mojo Edit, since you creeated this post, what is the feature request you'd like to see here?

They are back, right? Look on the Wrench menu of the Program monitor:

Not showing up in the wrench menu for me. Using 24.6.1 on a Mac. Hope that means it's coming soon.

Yes, you're right, sorry about that, it's in the Beta, I'm on 25.1, and 25.0, will be the release version, but I think this was in there, and will thus be in the next release.

Just wanted to follow up and mention that there were times this weekend in my Project where I enabled the Hand Tool and still couldn't move the Program Monitor picture around without restarting Premiere (which 'fixed' the issue). It's frusturating to have to troubleshoot Premiere functionality across different updates when it was rock solid for years until someone decided to change it for style points (e.g. scroll/pan Program Monitor, dupe detection oddities, the tiny minimalistic FX badges).

Adobe touts mobile, phone and tablet editing...then has the audacity to tell us to move/zoom in the program monitor with a damn mouse wheel....also ignoring eveyone editing on a laptop.   Going back and forth from hand to cursor  tool is distracting and a time waster. So far my vote is its a horrible user interface and user experience. I guess two scrioll bars are too expensive. Thanks Adobe. (and no, the "beta" apps aren't a solution)

I guess it's so tempting to show your outrage? Try the wrench menu.

8 pages on this post and finally, thank God, they put the option for scroll bars back as of 25.0.0 because panning with the hand tool still consistently does not work.

You can also use the middle-mouse button, (if you have one), but every middle- mouse button I ever tried to reach for is an awkward endeavor!

I say fix the spacebar. Currently it plays back on key-down. Change that to key-up, on a quick/normal press of the key, it will essentially be like usual, and most would not even notice, then if the mouse is click during key down, then just let us move  the screen, like in all the other apps we are getting compatible with, with this change.  (AE/PS/AI/etc)

Yes, fix "key down" activating the spacebar too.

I thought it was conflict with a custom keyboard setting.

@Mojo Edit, since you creeated this post, what is the feature request you'd like to see here?

  1. The ability to turn only the zoom feature off?
  2. Return of scroll bars and being being able to scrub without being in the time ruler?
  3. Other.
  4. A combo of the above.

As the OP, let me know so I can steer this request in the right direction. If the concensus is the ability to toggle the new behavior with the old behavior is what everyone wants, please upvote the other request, as well. Currently, the other post has more upvotes becuase it is more concise. Cheers.

Thanks,
Kevin

thanks for this answer - actually worked!  (I still don't understand the logic of removing the bars though since they're sill in place on every other window in Premiere.  Why does the Program window get special (annoying) attention in that regard

Maximize space?

A quick look at Lumetri, Effect Controls and the Properties panels show no scrollbars when the panel is large enough. Only when the allotted room is filled do the scrollbars appear.
