Catalina (Mac OS) has nullified the DV capture setting for Premiere Pro. Editors need this feature desperately. Please bring it back. I have lots of old tapes I need to capture. Am I supposed use iMovie?We pay for these features. Please add them back.
I have many, many, many DV tapes that I need to import into Premiere Pro. While I love using Premiere and other Adobe products, I can't justify the cost for tools that are inadequate.
You obviously had thought that the format was outdated and unnecessary, but viewing the feedback here, you can see there continues to be a substantial need for this to be included in PP. Please correct issue as soon as possible.
hey guys i ran into the same problem, ADOBE!!!! FIX THIS ISSUE PLEASE! We need a resolution ASAP! I have premier installed on two different computers and had only updated one of them to the new premier, so I am still able to digitize mini dv tapes, many ppl are not able to use your software with their media (mini dv) and even though i have the option to use my older computer with the older software to capture mini dv, still this is very frustrating for the workflow having to stay on top of not updating the software and having to use an older computer with an older adobe software is frustrating! crossing my fingers that @Adobe will release an update to fix this issue as many users are suffering and my old computer wont last forever!
This is a diaster! And then they just removed the download of Premiere Pro CS6 which I was able to get on my Macbook pro that does not have the firewire port.
This is so frustrating. I guess it's back to iMovie which is janky for different reasons. There are a LOT of tapes out there waiting to be digitized. Probably 89% of all tapes have yet to be digitized. This is insane.
I just got my system set up to do a long awaited conversion project. Also unfortunately updated to Catalina right before, this is an insane bug not to have fixed already. Let's go. Adobe, way too expensive to be dealing with this.
Also chiming in to express my disappointment after purchasing necessary firewire to thunderbolt adapters and getting ready to import dozens of Mini DV tapes with Premiere Pro to find out that there is no DV capture setting. Please fix ASAP!
Sorry to tell you. I believe the tech to support FireWire capture of DV no longer even exists in Catalina. I don't think it's possible moving forward to consider for engineering. Some problems are like this. I would use any older versions until you purchase new camera gear.

Adobe, think of all of the documentary filmmakers and TV producers who use Archival footage. Removing DV/Firewire Capture is completely eliminating a central component of video production. Videographers / TV /Filmmakers must have capability to capture footage from different sources to use in all types of productions. Why would you take this away ? Capturing from DV / Firewire devices is essential, even in the year 2020 and beyond. If this bug is not fixed, then clearly the film and TV industry will change platforms to another company that still offers this necessary component of production. Apparently it will need to be a cooperative effort with Apple's OS team to make this happen, but it will be well worth the effort. Simply thinking of filmmakers, videographers and your customer needs instead of efficiency and "progress" for your company is a key to this problem. Bring this function back and everyone will be happy!
Please find a way to fix this issue as many of us have archival tape that needs to be accessed to make our films. I am seriously reconsidering my subscription to Creative Cloud and I will urge my company to think of another program too as this has stopped work altogether at our end.
Basically I was lucky in that one computer in my house is still on Mojave (OSX 10.14.6) and I can capture video....but this creates an idiotic urgency to now transfer every single tape I have, soon, because I know Apple won't tollerate me not updating forever. This is so dumb for so many reasons. People will be slowly archiving, digitizing, and compliing their home videos for decades to come. This reminds me of getting rid of Adobe Encore way too soon. If I'm going to compile a family video series, I would definitely want to put it on a DVD or Blu Ray. Too much change too fast can lead to serious problems and loss of memories. Imagine if Kodak was pulling **** like this every 5 years from 1920-2000 when people were still using mostly film? We'd go bananas trying to digitize them for the next century. Not every collection is known. People will find tapes in closets of dead relatives and want what's on them. For better or worse, a lot of Firewire gear still works and needs to interface with Apple hardware.
Please find a solution for this! (or give information if this is considered to be fixed in the future) It is essential to a lot of videographers.. I´ve spent a lot of money on dongles for the new macbook, just for DV being discontinued a year later. Like this there is no point in me using Premiere anymore.
@kevin Monahan, that is not true. FireWire DV capture is still supported in MacOS Catalina;it's just that an old driver framework for this has been removed. Premiere would have to use the new one.
