Support for Nikon NRaw

Can we please get support for Nikon's NRAW codec? Resolve and Edius already have it cooked up and ready to go. This reactive rather proactive approach to codec integration is really disappointing. First it was Prores RAW (still ongoing issues) and now NRAW. How about Adobe show Nikon shooters a bit of love here?

Hi all,

I would like to let people here know that we have paused work on adding N-RAW support to our video products. When we have an update to share on potential future support for N-RAW, I will update this thread.

I locked this thread because it was becoming a debate on the value of N-RAW in general as a format, versus the desire to it to be supported in Adobe's video products. However, while the thread is locked for additional comments, we welcome additional upvotes to indicate requests

I have a Z8 and my .NEV is having the same problem... is there a solution yet... looks like you had this problem a year ago and it is still not resolved?

Same issue with my Z9, I've been following this for a while now, I recorded a lot of N-Raw footage for a cleint and I don't want to jump through hoops to use it in Premier Pro.

As someone who came out of a long career in pro stills, and was Nikon-based after migrating to digital, I would of course love some Nikon support also. Although my main cam is a BlackMagic pocket 4k, the missus still shoots Nikon for her pro work.

That said, here are a ton of camera formats, and the devs for each program seem to work more quickly on the ones that are more heavily used in their app.

Every app has their own differences.

Notably, Premiere has supported ProResRAW for over a year. From participating on the BlackMagic forums also (I work routinely in Resolve studio) it's clear from the devs posting there that it will be a very, very cold day deep down before that comes to Resolve.

Which is a frustration over in that pasture.

So ... like you, I do sincerely hope and push for better NRAW support. I use the paid plugin from Autokroma for my BRAW as it is vastly more stable and superior to the freebie from BM. I don't know if there's a good plugin available for NRAW though.

They just responded to the feature request for N-Raw saying that any dev work on supporting that is paused. They just have no priority for adding it. I've moved elsewhere for video work.

I would guess that the announcement of that pause has as much to do with Nikon's purchase of RED today. That has rattled a lot of the video post world at the moment. And may well lead to a very different codec situation over the next couple months.

Or not, but at this time, no one knows.

This is going to be the straw the broke the camel's back.  If Adobe is not going to do anything about this, I am seriously considering the switch to DaVinci Resolve.  I heard they can work with .NEV N Raw and I just downloaded their software.  Premiere you are on notice and I have been subscribed to your all apps plan for nearly 5 years.  I contribute to stock and I also have offered my time to you in the form of feedback on countless surveys.  I have even created YouTube videos in support of this product. I am so disappointed that this is not a priority and might be the canary in the coal mine for someone who has also invested in this company's stock on the stock market.  Insulting and I am embarassed I didn't know this sooner.  Literally ruined a few projects of mine.  Can't wait for the next survey...

Hi there!

When will N-RAW be supported in Premiere Pro? We now have the Z9, Z8 and the newly announced Z6iii, all capable of shooting 8K and 6K N-RAW and Premiere Pro still is not suporting those formats while your competitor Davinci Resolve does.

Could you please give us an update when will Premiere Pro support N-RAW?

Thank you

They officially posted that after Nikon acquired Red, that they paused development of Nraw support. I would guess there's some behind the scenes communications going on about changes coming within Nikon, so ... they may be working on supporting the 'next' raw from Nikon/Red Corp.

Or ... not.

We won't know until whatever they do hits the public beta.

I take it you never work with ProRes RAW? As that is not available in Resolve ... both apps have their holes.

Agreed.  This is unbelievable.  My options are basically to switch over to Canon or switch over to Davinci Resolve.  Switching to Davinci is easier for me at this point being so deeply invested in Nikon.

What a headache.

Hello @Riley37445542i7m2,

Thanks for the message and screenshot. For now, you may want to shoot ProRes RAW HQ 12-bit (MOV). I hope the advice is helpful. Sorry for the frustration. Take care.

Thanks,
Kevin
