Documentation for Premier Pro Set Matte

Does anyone know if there exists any proper documentation for the Set Matte effect?  It seems to behave in strange ways.  Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.  Often when it doesnt work, you can make it work by nesting the matte track/layer.  I think perhaps it only uses the base clip of the matte and ignores any (most?) effects (so nesting creates a new 'base'). But i am not sure.  I assume there is some rhymre or reason to this effect and would love to see some documentation but searching the "User Guide" is not much help.

For that matter, some proper well organized documentation of any Adobe product would be so welcome. Don't get me wrong, I love the software, but the struggle is real.

Oh there is more documentation!  Searching Adobe support for "set matte" didn't bring this up but I found it while looking for something else:  https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/video-effects-transitions.html

Every effect with some explaination!  Note that it says "The Set Matte effect was originally developed for After Effects. It is included in Premiere Pro only to provide compatibility with projects created in earlier versions of After Effects that use the Set Matte effect."

Thanks for the link, and yes as long as  you use the Set Matte in these kinds of simple ways it works fine.  I think that is the answer: dont do anything fancy with Set Matte and you will be fine 🙂
