An actual film "bin"An actual film "bin"The best way to organize any project is to create relevant bins and place the proper clips in each bin. You can think of bins as "folders" for clips. They're called bins because film editors used to place strips of film containing alternate cuts in carts called "bins." Bins are always located in the Project panel.

Premiere Pro User Documentation: Organize Assets in the Project Panel

  • Organize this footage into relavant bins. File > New > Bin. Create a bin structure that reflects the intended story. You can create bins within bins for added organization. Be sure to name them appropriately.
  • Sort Clips in the order you'd like within each bin. You can Freeform mode to "stack up" clips in order you choose, usually left to right, and top to bottom is typical "story order."
  • Bin Views can be in List, Icon, or Freeform.
    • List view has the capability of having columns which can be sorted to find certain items more quickly.
    • Icon and Freefrom views have visual icons that can be rearranged and placed in a manner so that your story is already in a visual sort order. Very handy!
    • One caveat here is that the clip icons and sequence icons are very similar looking in Icon and Freeform view, so be sure you can tell the difference before organizing your project and creating sequences. Some newer editors think their sequence had been removed, when it was there the whole time, it just looked like a clip icon.
