What happens when you click on one of the red + marks with your Selection tool and then click and drag to create a new large text frame on the pasteboard area outside your layout? You may want to save your favorite Libraries before they "go away." Open a new Illustrator file. Open the Color Library of your choice. (Window > Swatch Libraries > Color Books). Under the Options of the Swatch Library, choose Select All Unused and then the Trash at the bottom of the panel, Select all of the Swatches in the Library by clicking on the first Swatch and Shift-clicking on the last. Under the Options menu of this Library panel, choose Add to Swatches. Delete any repeated Swatches (the first and last that you clicked on earlier to select all). I agree with David from Creamer Training. Online training with an Adobe Certified Instructor makes the most sense for you being that the training can be totally customized to best fit your needs.  But if you're into learning from a book, you have some excellent choices above in this thread. My favorite book is unfortunately out of print—The Visual Quickstart Guide for InDesign by Sandee Cohen. I used an early version of this book a lot of years ago when I was switching from Quark to InDesign. Three months later I become (and still am) an Adobe Certified Instructor. Here's a workaround to help see what colors you're adding. Open a second window with the same file (Window > New Window) and arange the windows next to each other (Window > Arange > Tile). Styles work the same in both CS 6 and CC 2022. So not sure I know what you mean. You should really listen to Willi! Paragraph Styles are your main Styles and should be applied to text first. Character Styles should be applied to selected text within a paragraph to change the character formatting of that text. NEVER apply Character Styles to whole paragraphs. If you want the character formatting of a whole paragraph to be differeent than the applied Paragraph Styles, create a new Paragraph Style.  ... View more
