If the only difference between the two faces is kerning, you may want to try Optical Kerning instead of Metrics. Optical Kerning ignores the built in Metrics of typefaces and spaces your characters equally by comparing the relative shapes and sizes of adjacent characters and spacing the characters accordingly. You may still have problems with some missing Glyphs, but it's worth a try.

As mentioned above, go to the View menu and choose Hide Grid. But when you do, make sure to uncheck Snap to Grid as well. Or you will get the odd behavior of objects snapping to a grid you can no longer see.

Hmm! I'm wondering if you have Effects applied in the Appearance panel that your printer software does not understand. Try saving the file with a new name, then select the objects that are "colored in" in the Layers panel. And go to the Object menu > Expand Appearance. See it your contours are recognized and print now.

Was the PDF from a previous version of the layout? As a test, try exporting a PDF from the layout in question (in a different folder so you don't replace the old PDF) and then add back in the comments. See if that imports.

If Derek's solution does not help, I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you saying you want the text in the Layer above the background to Wrap some other object and it's not? Is the text entirely disappearing from the Text Frame? Do you have an unintentional Wrap applied to the background causing the issue? Can you include a screenshot of the issue which includes the Text Wrap panel?

Not sure why it's not letting you delete the TOC from Word. But I would suggest bringing in the text without the TOC. Go to File > Place, select the Word file. Hold down the Shift key and press the Open button. This will bring you into the options for the for placing the text. Simply uncheck Table of Contents and it won't be included in the placed text.

Sounds like your image is out-of-proportion. If you are resizing images using the bounding box while hold down your shift key and let go of the shift key too soon, the image will be out of proportion. It's amazing how often this happens. If you don't want an out-of-proportion image, select your image with the Selection tool, then double-click on the Scale tool (S). Select the Uniform Scale Percentage and press your up or down arrow keys on your keyboard to change the size. The image will never be out of proportion and you can Scale quite quickly by either typing in a number or holding down the arrow key continuously.

Some quick questions and a guess as to what is happening: Is the "body" document in a Packaged folder (with Document Fonts) and the "cover" is not? If that's the case, try dragging the "cover" layout to the Packaged folder and reopen. My guess is this font is not available on your computer except in this Packaged folder. This could be totally wrong, but I'm trying to help.

What you're looking to do is more easily accomplished in Illustrator, where you can apply the stroke to the text object and then drag the stroke under the fill in the Appearance panel. As mentioned above by Bob and Barb, Character Styles are the way to go. If you prefer using Commands to apply your formatting, set up a keyboard shortcut for each of your Character Styles.

If your layout containins running text, where the copy runs from one page to the next, set up your document with a Primary Text Frame in the New Documents window. Because this text frame is on a Parent (Master) Page, it will start at exactly the same place on every single page the Parent Page is applied to. Hope this helps!

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, so if I'm misinterpreting your question, I apologize. What I'm understanding is that when your type is over a dark background, you want the type to be white. When the type is over a light background you want the type to be black. Illustrator will not do this automatically. You have to select the type (as shown in your screenshot) an apply a Swatch color from the Swatches panel. Hope this helps!

As Frans was suggesting, Balanced Columns is a Text Frame option. I cannot tell from your screenshot, are you using Split Columns for your two columns of body text? If you are, Balanced Columns will not work. Instead set up a two column text frames and use Span Columnbs for the heads.
