How are you going to use your design? Pantone is optimized for printing on paper. RAL colors are used for paints and varnishes. And yes, the Pantone library is build-in, this is the most accurate way to describe the color in Photoshop.

Helpful tip to save the original untouched image. I always duplicate the Background layer and work on the duplicate to make sure the original image is untouched. And I found out the same way you did haha.

When you drag and drop the tools do you drop them into the toolbar on the far left? That does not work. You have to drop them into the left side of the 'customise toolbar' window. Hope this helps! Marja

The way Michelle scales the image works good for me too. I use 110% to avoid distortion and have recorded this in an Action. This way you only have to push the button in the Actions panel to repeat the scaling.

You can be very creative using blending modes. I suggest you also use adjustment layers to adjust colors or blur of specific layers. With these possibilities you can use any background you like! For the portrait itself it would be nice if the portrait can be easily extracted, so you can remove the background.

Great work to start with! I like the lines and forms of the background. For the use on social media I would suggest that you look at the logo in a very small size. Is the image of the egret still catching the eye? Is the text readable? Maybe make some adjustments in the size of these elements.

Tje easiest way is to use an adjustment layer. First select the background, and, with te background selected, make a new adjustment layer. This way the mask is already made. You can use an adjustment layer Levels, Curves, Hue/Saturation or Exposure, these will all darken the background.

Photoshop CC 2019 now scales images proportionally by default. The aspect ratio is locked automatically. Holding Shift while dragging a corner handle lets you drag the handles in any direction. It will take some getting used to, but it is an easier workflow I think.

Clicking on the mask works for me too, of course. But what if you return to the layer in the image itself? So far I don't know any way to select the layer mask by default in that case.

Do you mean the Apple Photo application? Have exported all the foto's in this favorites folder? I think it is much easier to work with a 'real' folder in the Finder, instead of a folder in the Photo's app. Photo's in a folder in Finder will always show up in Photoshop.

In CC 2019 Photoshop transforms proportionally by default. Holding down the Shift key now resizes non-proportionally when you drag a corner handle during transform. So hold down the Shift Key to change only the height or the width.

You can easily select the whole image using the Magic Wand Tool. Just click on the image. If not alle pixels are selected you have to increase the number of Tolerance, that means a wider range of color will be selected.
