If someone edits from 1 track of a polywav - and I import that into Audition - (i.e. it is currently accessing just track 1 of the polywav - but the file in the Files window is the polywav original) a. is there a way of conforming the other tracks to the same edit points? or b. a way to modify the timeline clip to be multichannel? I can select all and 'link media' and point to the original file - and all but the selected track will be replaced with the polywav. Although if I then hit space bar to play Audition does the instantaneous crash thing. I went back in and found the source channel routing, which is very cool - would like that track info in PPro. But this is a clip by clip arrangement (i.e. I cannot modify multiple timeline clips)

I'm not entirely sure I buy the 'producing a manual is too expensive' line - there's a cost, to be sure, but we are paying monthly subscriptions so there is an income stream. More so than Blackmagic - who do seem to manage to get a decent searchable manual out for their free & low-cost perpetual products, albeit a while after the product launches. I'm in absolute agreement that if I do use the 'help' dropdown it should help me search for answers for that particular application. As a newbie to this app (well been using bits of it for several years, but trying to use the multitrack editor in anger for the first time) it's infuriating to try and use the Adobe help ecosystem. On the other hand, despite relatively low traffic, there is prompt and useful responses on this forum. Plus it's the most likely to give something approximating the answer in google searches. So thanks to all who do give up time for that.

The tool on the far right of the transport controls (Skip Selection) will enable this. Thanks again. That wasn't quite what I wanted but is a very useful thing to know about. It's a way of previewing (and fine tuning with Shift + Left/Right to move the selection) what you are about to delete. Loop helps big time too.

Generally not helpful... The Grouping seems to work pretty well. Group all the tracks in the timeline before beginning the edit then 'suspend groups' if I ever need to do bits to individual clips / around individual edits. The 'Sync Locks' feature is very different to locking a track in time. I'll try and come back to that and explain it a bit better, but I'm minded to do the editorial in PPro then export a project and import to Audition (thus linking to full clips, not 'consolidated' copies) for final tweaks.

Thanks Steve I posted a feature request - Add roll trims like Premiere Pro – Adobe video & audio apps . I think they could pretty much incorporate it as it is in PPro - roll trims with transitions have the transitions come along for the ride. Might need a slightly different way of working as I see how the transitions are tied to a clip time and expand/contract as the edit is moved. Typically in video NLE's the transitions are a set duration and that moves with the edit - shrinking if the overall clip duration is shorter than the transition duration.

Coming from NLE background, I'm editing a podcast in Audition. I'm used to being able to edit dialogue very easily in Premiere Pro, and finding it less easy! Hoping this is just lack of knowledge. I can use JKL to play and then mark in, mark out, and ripple delete between marks from keyboard. This is my go to basic trimming tool. I can jump from edit to edit. Is there a 'roll' trim mode? Right we all have to bring down -0.1dB mastered cues. Generally by -10 / 12 / 15 and ride levels from there. sounds like you need Adobe.com/go/wish to be able to adjust waveform levels independent of actual levels- I’d vote for it

Dipping my toes in the Essential Sounds panel, finally. There do appear to be folks having issues with it - Premiere Pro: Hot (2645 ideas) – Adobe video & audio apps It seems to put a selection of plug-ins on the selected clips depending on the role/preset chosen. (i.e. if you create a preset called 'tweaked female voice: Person X' and apply it then any further changes to the preset will not affect clips that already have this role) The 'Loudness auto-match' seems to be set to -23LU and does a more balanced version of normalising. Gaps in the timeline seem to create glitching in multichannel sequences ( 12.1.2 still has dynamics bug / audio glitch – Adobe video & audio apps ) Two questions (to which I think the answer is no...): 1. Can I 'find' clips with/without roles in sequence ? 1. Beware your audio setup if multicam syncing with audio - if you've lots of tracks then you may get unexpected flattening results, that do not appear until you start editing. I have a template (Dropbox - 6. ADOBE MCAM PROJECT TEMPLATES.zip) that I copy my sync map into to ensure that I get track for track output, but I find that you can't reliably have multiple audio clips in one mulitcam sequence. 2. You could build a big sync map (take a look at https://www.videotoolshed.com/product/autosequence-/ - if you have matching timecode) then use a macro to subsequence every video clip with matching audio. Maybe check out some of the adobe voice posts and help out with some votes (if you think workable audio is more important than dealing with BM Raw). Or post your own if these don't fit... There's various subtitle tools that might help you out converting from one format to another. Video Toolshed's 'Subbits' springs to mind. I've used that to go the other way (Transcript -> Subtitles, with it auto breaking the speech by character limit. Although you could probably get as much by using RegEx in a text editor to strip out the subtitle numbering and excessive digits on timecode, cleaning up by hand. Not sure the SRT would contain all the info for a transcript or spotting file though (mainly speaker names).

If you set camera label to be ”a” for 1 cam, “b” for second etc then check ‘group cameras by label’ then PP will keep “a” on track 1, “b” on track 2 etc

This one is to get around major shortcomings in PP around bwav metadata. (See Enable bin columns (and properties and track names and timeline) to show ixml data from audio files (track content) – Ad… ) For selected audio tracks script to get the correct track info and write it somewhere useful. Maybe into custom bin columns. Maybe appended to track numbers as shown in source window waveform . I like the way Resolve does it - it appends the track info to the name of the clip as displayed in the timeline (as well as showing it in the inspector window clearly & easily). i can provide some samples if required. Not sure if this is appropriate, although if it isn’t then it’ll wither & die through lack of replies... Lacking time & patience & skills to develop them, I have ideas for panels/scripts that might be useful & thought there might be budding devs looking for projects of interest. So it might be useful for PP editors to post ideas in SDK forum & see if they gain traction. First up is a background mixdown & overlay idea I’ve had kicking around for a while. (I work a lot in very tight turnaround- often we pretty much play to air from the timeline, so it can’t stutter). In Avid you can mixdown video & stick it on a ‘mixdown’ track - like a render but easy to see where you are rendered & easy to lift out a section to make changes without losing renders. In FCP7 I used to do a similar thing by rendering then dragging the renders back in onto the mixdown track. Haven’t managed to do similar in PP other than exporting with ‘import into project’ checked & overwriting that onto a mixdown track. AME helps as it does let export happen in background. What script would do, ideally: a. Require a sequence track be uniquely named eg ‘Mixdown’ b. using sequence preview setting & using sequence preview renders and using Media Encoder to make it a background task, export between mark in & out, all video tracks underneath ‘mixdown‘ track (eg there may be caption track above) and overwrite that export onto mixdown track.

I can see good reason to want AME to run invisibly (background renders, deinterlace mixdowns etc). EditReady works on command line - if that’s any help? You’d still need to tie up PP for the render though... but if you’re trying to make H264s or similar you might save time.

Thanks Neil - I knew where they were & the .pek are the peak files I believe. The .ims are the confirmed sound files. But they are tricky to find for one particular file and I was hoping for a right-click ‘recreate cache files’ type option

And to answer the bit about pinning position... if you pin to more than one edge (e.g. pin to top and bottom edges) the pinned object will scale with the object it is pinned too (in the verticals in this case). So it can be good, for example, for ensuring that a background shape behind a subtitle is always the same size relative to the text.

Ive got customised video/audio headers ( ie sequence buttons to right of V1 A1 etc & left of actual timeline. Where are they saved? They don’t follow workspace settings, or track height settings & seem to be sequence specific. thanks

was using low res H264 proxies with multitrack AAC audio. Playback was pretty poor especially audio. I suspect it is the confirm files created, and I’d like to be able to delete them - is there an easy way to find them in media cache? thanks

Finally moved over to using Essential Graphics rather than the old title tool (or After Effects). Couple of questions for the hive mind.. 1. Am I correct that the output is low res & has to be rendered for full quantity? Certainly looks like it 2. I’m sure it’s in the manual but, when linking an object to another (eg Text line 2 to text line 1) what do the indicators mean - I’ve had some weird scaling on text line 2 when overtyping text line 1 3. I can scale (eg a shape) horizontally separately from vertically (by toggling the link button) but I only see 1 parameter (which controls horizontal). Thanks

I suspect that you have multiple files with duplicate names. PPro has, at some point, relinked to files and chosen the wrong ones. My approach, when dealing with media like this (00xxx.MTS, C0001.MP4 etc) is to batch rename the clips before I start editing so they have unique prefixes. Usually I use the shoot date (and the shooter initials if there is more than one) so 0001.MTS becomes 20180903_JB_0001.MTS. That is useful info to have in the clip name anyway.

I kind of answered myself David. It's a clusterf*** and one must AVOID enabling multicam on audio clips - there are serious bugs if you do. Better to avoid multicam altogether I think.

Chasing down multicam audio I got a repeatable bug. Submitted to adobe voice - vote here: BUG: Multicam audio disappears - sample project attached – Adobe video & audio apps Attached are 3 projects: 1. The original MCam build - no multicam enabled on the audio tracks as default - 8 track ident plays 2. The first change - I enabled multicam on the audio tracks - 8 track ident still plays (although waveforms disappeared on A2-A8) 3. The second change - I added an add-edit on A2, now only A1 plays - A2-A8 are mute. No amount of undoing would get me back. #1 - Do not enable multicam on audio tracks (unless you need to flatten and even then maybe do that in an entirely seperate project and copy it back?) #2 - Maybe disabling multicam audio on *all* timeline tracks will revert? In testing it seems *very* unpredictable. Sometimes it will, sometimes it won't - sometimes removing one clip from the master timeline brings everything back.
