So I was having serious playback issues with Premiere Pro lately. ProRes and H.264 4k video both playing terribly at 1/2 resolution. I followed all the tips Adobe recommends (clear cache being basically the only one beyond lowering your playback quality). The only thing that fixed it was I found multiple references to Playback issues being related to Audio Hardware. So I switch my Audio Out (in Audio Hardware in Premiere) to one of my monitors (actual PC monitor). Now my footage is playing smooth as butter. Previously I was sending audio out to my Motu M2 audio interface. That interface sends audio to my Studio Reference Monitor speakers and Reference Monitor headphones. It also is the IN interface for my XLR microphone for voiceover recording. Now I found reference to this fix as far back as 2019 (I bet I'd find it further if I kept looking). So what is going on here? Does Adobe not consider this a bug? My monitor speakers are AWFUL, but that seems to be about the only way I get Premiere to actually work as it should. So do I have to pick whether I get to hear quality audio (to confirm it is even worth using) OR quality video playback? And please don't try and pass the buck to Motu on their audio interface. I truly doubt everyone who has run into this is running the exact same Audio interface hardware.

So for the last few days I've been entirely unable to use Lightroom Classic. I open it, head to my Library and click "Import" to get started. And as soon as I do my mouse wheel starts the little blue spinning circle, and that's all she wrote for the next 5 minutes. Eventually the box to Import opens, but it doesn't load my file structure and if I open task manager its listed as "Not Responding". And it isn't like it is overwhelming my PC, my CPU is basically NOT being utilized during this (2% at the moment), and my Memory is sitting at 8GBs used out of 32GB (of which 1.3GB is Lightroom). I can keep using my PC just fine because Lightroom just... gave up? I'm typing all of this now while Lightroom is "trying" in the background. I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightoom to no effect. Its exactly the same. My PC has had zero issue with Lightroom until now. Lightroom Version: 10.1.1 OS: Windows 10 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8-core) RAM: 32GB G.skill 3600mhz Storage Drives: 2x M.2 SSD (for work files), 1x 2.5" SSD (for OS & where LR is installed) 1x 2TB HDD (for backup, basically unused). Sorry I don't have a useful reply. Other than to say I fully agree that the latest versions of Premiere have taken a big step backward in usability. Footage that used to play perfectly fine in Premiere just a few months ago is now a stuttering mess. Something is broken in Premiere, I'm going to try a rollback to an older version today I guess. (Something I shouldn't have to do when I pay hundreds of dollars a year for numerous years now).

So I've been away from my main editing computer for months now and was stuck with my laptop for a while. I finally got it back up and running and have begun work on some projects. The first one I did was H.264 4k footage (from a GH5 and Osmo Action Camera) and was a complete pain to edit. Lots of dropped frames and simply annoying to edit. Now before I went away my system did marginally well with H.264, it would chug once an edit got pretty heavy (a lot of clips/cuts/effects) but NEVER immediately at the start of editing. But I assumed maybe it was an H.264 issue and wrote it off. On my Laptop I had started to notice it chugging pretty badly with h.264 footage but assumed it was the laptop. Now I started a project that is entirely ProRes footage (also from the GH5 but recorded on an Atomos Inferno). This footage edited BEAUTIFULLY on this exact computer just a couple months ago. Now? I've got ONE clip on the timeline and it cannot play a 22 second clip without stuttering and stopping repeatadly. I mean this is just ProRes 422LT 4k footage. I've edited this a hundred times without issue in the past. Funny part? I have a third project I started that is all Blackmagic BRAW footage from my BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k, and that edits just fine (before effects are applied). I searched and it sure seems like there are a bunch of recent "Stuttering Playback" posts and no adequate answers. The go-to response seems to be "Create Proxies". That's fine for a low spec computer with H.264 footage, but a computer working with ProRes footage that edited buttery smooth just a few months ago? Seems to me like some recent update has a flaw or two. PC Specs: -AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (8-core CPU @ 4Ghz) -32GB DDR4 3400mhz RAM -AMD Frontier Edition Graphics Card w/ Pro Drivers (8GB RAM) -2TB NVMe SSD (drive where footage is stored) -500GB NVMe SSD (Cache Drive for Creative Cloud files only) -Premiere version 14.4.0 -Fresh install of Windows (Just reformatted the Windows drive this week due to a driver issue.) Attached is a Screenshot of the Windows Task Manager while the clip in question is playing back. Average 15% CPU usage, 3% on the GPU, 12GB of RAM. The System isn't starving for resources, Premiere just isn't using them. Earlier in 2020 it really seemed like Premiere was getting better about using the Computer Hardwar available to it, seems like maybe a serious backslide has occurred.

Yes it is an old software issue. CS6 came out in 2012. You are using a 7-8 year newer processor. In 2012 CPUs only had 2 to 4 Processing cores on average. The software has no idea how to utilize all of that horsepower your new processor has. Heck the 2018 version of Adobe CC didn't utilize Multi-Threading nearly as well as the 2020 version does. They keep making strides in improving it with every update.

Are there any specific effects at that timestamp? Like are you ramping the opacity on that light leak or something? When oddball things like this happen there are two go to things I will do. 1) Clear your cache and start fresh. 2) Create an entirely new sequence with the proper project specs. Then copy your entire Timeline to the new Sequence. Sometimes sequences seem to hiccup and changing to a new one fixes bugs that otherwise shouldn't exist.

What you are experiencing is a result of the 25fps Footage combined with your tilting speed. GeraldUndone did a video about this that did a good job of breaking down what is going on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAVfIQ2G7Io Basically you are moving fast enough that each individual frame is happening spaced apart from the previous one, causing the image to jump from frame to frame. If you were going faster it would blur thoroughly and would be less notciable, but you'd lose the visual interest of the detail present in the shot. I used to have this ALL THE TIME until I watch that video I linked and started going slower with my pans and tilts. Or whipping them when I wanted faster motion. Warp Stabilizer WON'T help in my experience. Fast motion like this really screws up the analyzing of frames so you end up with either a very jumpy and jello-y warp stabilization or it crops in far too much trying to compensate. The best thing I've found for this is to switch your playback speed to "Optical Flow" and adjust your clip speed to something that makes it look a little better. If you aren't familiar with that, Right Click on your clip -> Speed/Duration -> Time Interpolation and select "Optical Flow". The clip will need to be Preview Rendered to see the effect taking place, but once you do, tweak the speed of the clip (re-render), and see where it looks best. So when I do my video work I usually Extract the Audio, Edit it in Audition, then insert the Edited file back into Premiere. This has worked well for me for a couple years now. Recently however I noticed an issue. My audio is the decibel level I want it to be when I export it out of Audition, but when I Import it to Premiere it drops down a few Decibels. Namely the last thing I do in Audition is I Normalize to -11dB. That gives me a nice -12dB average audio level to account for peaks and lows in my audio, generally. I can play it back in Audition and confirm that it is averaging right around -12dB. However when I import it into the Project in Premiere, now it is down to around -15dB and I have to boost the audio 2-3 dB to get it where I want it to actually be. Is there something I'm missing here? Is it an issue with Audition exports or Premiere Importing? If I close Audition, then Reopen it and freshly import the audio to it, it still seems to be the -12dB I wanted it to be, so it seems to be a Premiere issue. Files are 48khz 24-bit .WAV files.

So I've been doing external Audio recording for the last week and have noticed that since the recent update, Syncrhonization does absolutely nothing. I click "Syncrhonize", Select Audio Track 1 (and make sure one of the clips I want is there), and Hit OK. It pops up with "Processing Tracks 1, 2" and goes away suspiciously quickly. In the end ZERO change is made. The clips do not budge from where they started out. It doesn't say that it cannot find a match, just doesn't do anything. Am I missing something? I haven't used this function in a while but this is exactly how I used to do it. Sure I'd get a random clip here or there that wouldn't be able to line up and have to do it manually, but right now I'm having to do absolutely everything manually. Video Clips have 24-bit 48000Hz audio, as do the recordings from my Zoom H4n. Project is set to 32-bit 48000Hz, but I don't see where to change that, nor do I know if it matters. When manually aligned there are always about .5 of a frame off no matter what I do, is that causing the problem here? I've used this audio recorder and camera setup in the past without issue.

What Neil said. Premiere really under-utilizes GPU power, you won't see any benefit at all from SLI. Other programs can leverage it, but not Premiere.

Set the sequence to 1920x1080 and just downscale the higher resolution footage as necessary. It gives you a good chance to reframe your shots as you see fit too. Your higher resolution files will crop in to 1920x1080 but since they are greater than that resolution you still have the full resolution quality.

I just finished my first project shot entirely with ProResLT as the acquisition and editing Codec. Now it is time to Backup my project and I decided I didn't want to backup 350GBs of data for this complete project. However I do like to save my unedited project files for future use in other projects. So I decided to Transcode all of the footage to H.264 at a lower BitRate to still have the footage in a usable format but not take up so much space. I brought all of the files into AME and selected the "High Quality 2160 4K" setting. I then customized it by bumping up the VBR rate to 100Mbps Target and 200Mbps max. Hit go and walked away for a couple of hours. Now I just looked at the Finished files and found that they exported at "2720x1530" Resolution. There isn't even a 2.7K Preset, AND that isn't even really 2.7K, so what the heck happened here? I just wasted about 2.5 Hours of Transcode time that I have to do all over again, whenever I figure out how to make it actually 4k. Screenshots of the issues:

Done both of those things. Also I had another issue today so I scrapped my Preferences then uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere today. The project I was working on then started to save in sub folders again...

Premiere has been using GPU Acceleration less and less. When I first started using Premiere I swear it used GPU to accelerate things much more than it does now. That said, I run an AMD Vega graphics card and while it barely gets utilized during Export my render times are far better than that (I also have a fairly newer processor too). I export 4k 10 minute videos in a third of that time. I'm with everyone else, what are your export settings and effects applied?

That is a strange one. My recommendation would be to create a new Sequence and move your project onto that. Just go "File -> New -> Sequence" and setup your Sequence Settings as you want/need. Then highlight your entire timeline on the old sequence, Ctrl-C to copy it all, go to the new Sequence, Ctrl-V to paste it all in. Then try exporting from the new sequence. Creating a new sequence is one of those "who knows why it works, but it does" things in Premiere like clearing the cache. Sometimes anyway.

Something I've noticed Premiere doing for a while now is that it constantly creates new sub-folders for Auto Saves. So If I go to the Auto-Save directory, there will be an Auto-Save folder inside of the first one. At the moment said Auto-Save folders are about 10 deep (not joking). Premiere just keeps creating these folders at random and saving project files in them. Sometimes it seems really random as to which folder it decides to save in. So if Premiere crashes and I have to retrieve an Auto-Save it means digging through a dozen folders to find exactly the save iteration I'm looking for. Has anyone else experienced this madness?

Ever since a few updates back (I think the 13 update but I could be wrong) Warp Stabilization Analysis requires me to basically completely stop working so it can do its thing. This is really frustrating and halts my workflow anytime I choose to use the effect. Previously I'd apply WS to one or two clips, then I would move to another portion of my Timeline away from those clips and continue editing while they analyzed in the background. Now however if I playback footage on the timeline the WS Analysis stops completely and won't continue until I pause Timeline playback. Meaning I cannot do anything with my footage until Analysis is complete. If I interrupt the Analysis too many times it fails and I have to restart the process. Am I the only one who has noticed this? Or did everyone else always apply the WS effect and stop editing while it analyzed? I'd far rather have WS take a little longer and still be able to edit other footage than completely halt my work any time I apply the effect. I'm on Premiere Pro 13.1.4 before anyone asks.

45 Minutes of maintaining good gimbal technique is a herculean task. I'd say virtually impossible. I use an older Zhiyun Crane gimbal with a GH5 and generally only shoot about 30-60 seconds in a single smooth shot. And that requires a LOT of concentration. My G7 that I used before had no IBIS and required even more focus to maintain a good technique. The Warp Stabilization effect is legitimately looking at the footage frame by frame and comparing it to the frames before and after it, tracking the footage as it goes. Its not a simple effect. It is very CPU intensive and your CPU is not very powerful for the task. I have a Ryzen 7 8 core (16 thread) Cpu at 4Ghz and I just finished analyzing a 45 second long DCI-4k clip (24fps), it took approximately 10 minutes. That is 1,080 frames of footage to analyze. My system was analyzing my footage at approximately 1.8 frames per second. Your clip being 4k 60fps and 45 minutes long is 162,000 frames of footage. At that 1.8 frames per second my computer would take 81 HOURS to analyze that footage. And my System has 4 times the processing threads yours does at almost 1Ghz faster clock speed. You are asking too much of the software I'm sorry to say. I have to ask, why are you shooting 4k60? If you are stabilizing in post then you aren't speed ramping it to slower motion. And with the GH5s you cannot record 4k60 at 4:2:2 10-bit so you are losing out on a lot of the benefit of the cameras color capability just to generate far more frames than you need. I mean maybe you like the look of 60fps footage, but I'd rather have that color range and chroma sub-sampling over the fps.

Sometime in the recent updates I swear Warp Stabilization got a fair bit slower. That said I have an 8-core (16 thread) Ryzen 7 cpu and it is currently using all 16 threads to analyze a 40 second 4k clip for me. It is actually analyzing as I type this. My GPU is at 1% utlization. I think the GPU is used for Rendering out during Export, not during analysis. But I'm just guessing off anecdotal evidence.

There have actually been a fair amount of folks who have tested out Windows 10 after all of it's updates and found that it is honestly not nearly as bad or performance hindering as Windows 7 users believe. I was a die hard Windows 7 user until I built my current computer. When I built it there was no way to run the new AMD Ryzen CPUs on Windows 7 so I installed Windows 10, and I've never looked back. I don't love the Windows 10 Start Menu/App Launching nonsense, but there is a REALLY easy fix for that. I installed a program called "Classic Shell" on all my Windows 10 machines now. It converts the stock Start Menu/App Launcher to your choice of previous design menus. I have mine setup to mimic Windows 7 personally and I love it. Demanding a company keep supporting an outdated program is a confusing concept. Adobe cannot be expected to maintain continual backwards compatitibility for outdated software and operating systems. Windows 7 is coming to end of life very soon. Microsoft isn't even supporting it anymore, why should Adobe?

I've had none of these problems with my Google Pixel 2 and I've been using it to upload Instagram Videos, Stories, and IGTV uploads since October of 2018. So it seems like it may be an issue with how the iPhone is handling the video. At least from the limited anecdotal evidence present in this thread. I know Instagram is picky about the file size being uploaded (for non-IGTV uploads). I try to keep mine below 60MBs maximum, however you seem to have been doing that already by the export settings you posted previously.

The last time I followed that Preferences delete process, it did nothing. I loaded up Premiere and all of my preferences were still there, along with my issues. However I will try it next time this problem resurfaces.

I agree your system needs a refresh. That GPU is not being served well by a First Gen i7 CPU. Premiere likes high frequency CPUs, say closer to 5Ghz vs the less than 3Ghz you are running at. I'm running a GTX 980 with a current gen AMD Ryzen 2700X and my playback on 4k footage is mostly fine with Cuda acceleration on. I'm running into other issues with such an old card and going to upgrade this weekend though. That said have you tried the latest Creator Ready drivers? Nvidia recently switched to offering a Gaming Driver set and Creator Driver set. I haven't see many reports of it actually making a difference but it is supposed to be better optimized for use in the Creative Cloud and other workstation uses. The current Revision is 419.67. I would ignore whatever Adobe recommends for drivers or hardware, they do not keep up with how rapidly the PC Hardware landscape changes. Drivers | GeForce <- Under the last option there is "All", "Recommended", "Beta", and the last one "Creator Ready Driver". I'd give that a try.

Usually when I'm editing a video I start my sequence, drag in my clip, and the first thing I do is Right Click -> Edit Clip In Audition, then I go do all of my audio tweaking and send the audio back over the Premiere. Well today I got the latest update "13.1.2" and the option is just greyed out. I opened Audition manually, still can't send it over. I closed both Premiere and Audition and tried again, still nothing. I created a new Sequence and tried again, still nada. The only thing that seems to work is unlinking the Audio manually, "Render and Replace", then Manually open the audio in Audition. All of this is what I expect that "Edit Clip in Audition" basically does itself, but it is really frustrating to have to do it myself when the option is there just not ON. Has anyone experienced this before? Anything I can try?

Hey Dacia, I'll see about getting back to you. They are working today, but last week they were not. The week before that I completely deleted Premier and reinstalled, then they worked. It has been an ongoing frustration since the 2019 update and I'm seeing I'm definitely not the only one.

I've tried that and it didn't make any difference. Last night I uninstalled Premiere Pro (with "yes remove app preferences" checked) and then reinstalled it. Before doing so NO Mogrts were working at all. Now they are all working again. However it didn't delete any of my app preferences as I indicated it should. I've done this before in relation to this Mogrt issue so I'm only expecting this to be a temporary fix (as it has been before). But we shall see.

In my case it is MANY projects. It is hit or miss. Some times (for no apparent rhyme or reason) the templates do not work. Some times only ONE template does not work. Most commonly it is the one Template I've had the longest and use the most (of course). New projects, new sequences, nothing makes a difference. Right now I'm working on a Project and NO motion graphics templates will load. Not any of the ones I've purchased and added, not even the pre-loaded ones that come with Adobe Premiere. ZERO are functional right now. I'm using Version 13.1.1 by the way. Just to head that off at the pass.

I just went and deleted the problematic mogrt from my local template folder. I looked up how to open the file in AE. So I opened it, reviewed it, and Exported it fresh from AE 2019 to my Local Template Folder (with Premiere closed the entire time). I then opened Premiere, dragged the "new" Unlimited Callouts mogrt to my Timeline AND it says it is corrupted... Still.
