@alexfreund , Yes there was a significant change which started with LrC version 13.3 when a new Sync engine was introduced v2. What this means now is you need to be running LrC version 13.3 or later. See some info on the changes introduced and info on the way forward. It's a challenging task but if you wish to use the new AI features and continue to sync images with Adobe Creative Cloud and mobile devices it's necessary. See info in the thread at the link below.

@dj_paige , you stated " The new catalog was trying to import to a different folder than the old catalog was. You haven't even looked for that."
@tomj52 , response " The folder is the same for the old and new catalogs, so I'am trying to figure out why it would not import"
I suspect the author is not fully aware of how a LrC Catalog functions and thinks the import is going to the same folder where the Catalog resides.

Please explain in detail and indicate what applications you are using including the actual version number do not say things like latest or up to date.

@johnrellis , you stated "But in your case, not only is Auto greyed out, but the Profile Browser is also greyed out:"
I notice this on both my iMac using LrC 12.5.2 and by PC using LrC 14.0.1, however when I take my mouse to the Profile Browser it highlights and can be clicked to access the profiles.

I see the following on my iMac using LrC 12.5.2
Basic:
Treatment Color Black and White.
Tone:
Auto Black and White (The auto button always stays available.)
I see the following on my PC using LrC 14.0.1.
Basic:
Auto. B & W. HDR ( The auto button becomes unavailable if used)
Tone:
The Auto button has been removed.
There has been a change when the HDR option was added in LrC. So in LrC 14 what I am experiencing is, if the Auto button was used on a particular image it cannot be applied again.
I presume this is working as intended.
PS. 3.30 pm Atlantic standard time, I have purged Camera Raw cache, reset Preferences and restarted my Computer and can confirm what I stated above, i.e. when the auto button is selected it gets greyed out, however if one of the basic or tone settings are manually adjusted it gets highlighted again.
Is this the expected behavior? That's how it functions with the Auto button located in LrC 12.5.2 Tone panel.

One thing you need to consider in your decision to reinstall LrC 12.5.1, is you need LrR 13.3 or later to be able to Sync your images with Adobe Creative Cloud applications i.e. Lightroom Desktop, and Lr Mobile.

@tommymfarina , the subject of this thread is, "Video files will not preview or import, LrC 13.1, Sonoma 14.2.1".
I do not understand what your issue has to do with this thread.
What application are you using to import video files from your iPhone Lightroom Classic or Lightroom ( mobile)? If so which version number. Also provide some details of exactly what you are trying to achieve.
Just a thought, are you trying to import the video files from your iPhone to Lightroom mobile and sync them to Lightroom Classic on your computer? If so you need to be using LrC 13.3 or later on your Computer.

@Conrad_C , I do not normally work on editing of jpeg files with sRGB color space so I cannot speak to your concept of LrC using Melissa RGB to display jpeg files in the develop module.
My thinking is jpeg files in have a imbeded color space and there is no way improve the image edits can be applied to the image but there will be no enhancement to the color space.
Just my thoughts, I am open to any info you can provide.
PS. Not to worry I am now clear in my mind the color profile sRGB, Adobe RGB and Pro Photo RGB affects how the image is displayed in various applications.

My camera creates image name with a 4 numeric ending similar to your description.
See the screen capture which shows my import renaming of the image name to add a 3-digit sequence number. This would avoid a repeat naming. The original 4-digit numbering will repeat after 9999 images, and the 3-digit will repeat after 999 images.

@dj_paige , you stated "Do NOT import photos into LrC that are in Capture One."
Could you expand why you recommend this LrC in its default mode stores info in the Catalog file and as far as I am aware Capture One can also work in a similar mode.
So if you are not writing metadata to the files there should be no confilict with your edits.
The original raw images can be in the same folders?

@Sara33434517vzr8 , my thoughts are ppi (pixels per inch) is relavent if you are creating an image to print at a specific size. So looking at your screen capture the pixel settings you have chosen will create a print size of 9.52 inches by 7.8 inches @ 300 ppi.
If you wish a print of 10 in x 8 in to print at 300 ppi then choose 3000 pixels by 2400 pixels.

@SplatterPop , you stated. "ACR is basically lightroom inside of photoshop and features being dropped there first is super disrespectful."
Adobe Camera Raw has been in existence prior to the development and release of Lightroom in Feb 2007. Camera Raw is a Plug-in which runs with PS.
Lightroom is an independent application and has the Camera Raw processing engin built into the Lightroom application.
The Camera Raw team develops improvements to the raw processing engine and new features. These are then passed to the Lightroom team for implementation in the Lightroom application, that's why you may see new features in Camera Raw shortly before LrC.

@Tokumeino , Stated in his initial post. "Hi, as far as I understand, Camera Raw is now able to apply AI denoise, enhanced details and super-resolution without an intermediate disk-space-eater DNG file. Is it somehow possible directly within Lightroom Classic ? If not, what's the best workflow in your opinion ? "
I have reviewed my posts as it relates to your statements above. As far as I understand from the tests I have done and checks online both LrC 14 and ACR 17 apply AI Denoise , Enhance Details and Super resolution in the same manner. I am awaiting a response from the PS / ACR team concerning the process of using the Edit in PS procedure.

Re Johan "Do you think/expect that ACR does a better NR job than Lightroom Classic does and is that the reason you so desperately want to use it? I don't because the NR routines are the same. AFAIK, the difference is only in how the NR edits are stored: in a rendered file or as non-destructive edits of the raw file. But by rendering a tiff in Photoshop you'll take away that only difference..."
Looks as though I was mistaken, I have been searching online and have not found anything in the past 45 minutes. Thanks for the clarification.

@JohanElzenga @ When finished with Dnoise in ACR open in PS and then when finished in PS save as a tiff and discard the DNG.
If I need the tiff in LrC syncronise the folder in LrC. All my raw images are imported to my Lightroom Catalog. I would then have a Enhanced NR tiff sitting alongside the original raw image.

I did a simple test myself to test the new Dnoise in Camera Raw 17.
I selected the raw image in Win Explorer and did open with PS, and PS launched and the image was in the CR window and I proceeded to apply the Denoise it completed successfully. I selected open and the image was now in the PS no further edits and I just selected to save and the file tips select tiffs tiff. A DNG and a tiff was saved in the folder next to the original image.
In LrC I syncronised the folder and imported the two images. I did a compare of the tiff and original raw image to see the results. Very pleased with the improvements.
Looking forward it it being added to LrC.

Edits done with CR do not sync with LRC automatically you would have to manually select the image/s in LrC Library module menu bar Metadata > Read Metadata from file.
The edits will be applied to the images in LrC within it's limits of the LrC version.

@bec_7872 , you stated "I'm a teacher and just wanting to get some get some validations on how INFURIATING it is that LrC catalog versions aren't backwards compatible at all (like even in the mini/intermittant updates between versions)"
Lightroom was released in Feb 2007 as version 1, version 14 was released on October 16 2024 an every version there was a new Catalog version that was not comparable with the previous version. The exception to this was version 13 in Lightroom Classic when there was a Catalog upgrade in version 13.3 to accomadate the introduction of the sync processing engine v2. That's the progress of technology what is available in 2024 was not available in 2007..
You need to schedule your classes for students using the same versions of Lightroom.

The specs of my iMac are contained in my signature below. Since I am restricted to macOS Big Sur I am unable to upgrade beyond LrC 12.5.2.
LrC version 13 was released in Oct 2023 and since that time to now there was a significant upgrade to the application with the introduction in May 2024 of LrC 13.3 the Catalog required upgrade necessary to support a version 2 upgrade to the sync engine.
Fast forward to October 18 2024 and the LrC 14 release.
Syncing LrC to Adobe Creative Cloud and Lr Desktop, Lr Mobile and Web requires LrC 13.3 and later.
Since May 2024 I have been using my PC for syncing.
