Hi jim It was an existing project template (ie virtually empty, just a few bits and bobs of titles and whatnots). Setup proxy settings to cineform 720, create proxies only. Set destination folder on an ssd. Imported footage and proxies were created. some of this footage was shot at 29.97 fps and I interpreted to 25p. I assumed premiere would also do this with the proxies, but maybe I need to do this manually. this would explain the discrepancy in zoom too.

I'm always confused. its my rest state. Thanks for the info folks. So basically you dont have to do anything - just add the toggle proxy button in the program monitor and ppro sorts out the rest. Heres hopin... Edit: Except it doesn't work. I toggle the proxies on and off and the zoom is quite different.

hi tomas thanks for responding 1. one smart object (the plan is to apply smart object stack modes) 2 & 3: Document should be exported to jpeg and closed (that's what I mean by spitting out new sequence). ie if the original images were 0001.jpg - 1000.jpg, the new sequence would be the same but saved somewhere else. I guess this would need to work from bridge and have all the images sent as a batch. why not save psds? because with 1000 pics tweaking the psds is not viable - all the tweaking needs to be done in the action

say I have 1000 jpegs. I want to load 0001-0010 into layers, create a smart object from them then run an action. I then want to load 0002-0011 and repeat, spitting out a new jpeg sequence Does anyone know if there is a script out there that I can use as a starting point for this? I'm happy to hack and learn bits as I go, but starting absolutely from scratch is a bit daunting. I know a little javascript and I used to used lingo (anyone remember that!?) How hard can it be ?

I want my final timeline to be 1080 not 4K. I dont get how 720p will work. My 4k footage is twice the width of 1920x1080. 1080 is not twice the width of 720. Urgh! confused

I thought I'd have a go a using proxies today, but previously I've been put off because I'll re-frame nearly every shot and often zoom during the shot. My current workflow has 4k footage on a 1080 timeline. I have a bunch of presets that use scale to do this (made before I found the transform tool). Does it mean that if I edit on a 960x540 timeline that all my scales will scale up automatically to a 1080 timeline. or what!? Help what to do!?

hi neil 2 of the three have masks on them, and I need to be able to tweak those masks. I've found on 1080 footage PPpro can handle this speciific one with ease (mostly because each tweak is quite simple - I just want to be able to apply different tweaks to different parts of the image).

I have my program monitor set up on a 2nd monitor. WHen the vid is playing there is a noticable sheet towards the green. Any ideas what might cause this? I'm on windows 10, pprocc, gtx970 all up to date.

Before I submit a bug report... I've got a preset that was made up of 3 different lumetri effects that were also presets. When I made the preset it looked something like this: Once I apply the preset it looks like this: Now I understand the logic, and it makes sense for presets that are made up of different effects, but in this case its a pain in the bum. Does anyone else find this annoying? (In which case I'll do a feature request) Or is it just me

the more I understand premiere's foibles the fewer render errors I get: if I've been using it all day and I have to render a complex sequence I reboot first. I clear the media cache often and I render previews using the cineform codec as mentioned above, then export using previews. I break down complex effects and render intermediates. And sometimes if I'm lazy I'll just give a go and am happily surprised. I think ultimately that's the best approach with premiere: Plan for dissapointment and be happily surprised

I've got a gtx 970, win10 with 4k footage (h.264) I can use premiere for varying amounts of time - sometimes 5 minutes, sometimes 30. Sometimes its when I apply an effect, somtimes time remapping. Somtimes when it feels like it for no reason, the program monitor goes black. The scopes also stop working. The source monitor still works though. So is this a bug I should lodge? its been going on a long time, and I've seen quite a few posts about it. I've done the usual things: cleared cache, reset prefs, made appropriate sacrifices. The only thing that fixes it is to restart ppro, and more effectively - a reboot. I'm currently on 382.05 drivers. in my experience new drivers have not helped at all, but I'm open to suggestions

I've had this problem for the last oooh, 10 years or so. I think I've finally found why its happening. I've posted many times on the issue I've read tons of posts here and elsewhere, my guess is there's lots of people who have just given up trying to use it. I notice in resource monitor that photoshop's status goes to "not responding" when the action is playing. So it seems pretty clear that the items that are in the queue to be sent to photoshop are getting sent too early, and that the droplet is finding photoshop unavailable. I spent a bit of time with an adobe tech on this, but he couldn't recreate the issue. If anyone else who suffers from this issue would care to check their resource monitor whilst running the droplet, I'll collate the info and submit it to adobe... One more time.... edit: I "analysed the wait chain". Which doesn't mean much to me, but I can see a bunch of threads in "waiting status". I dont know if this is relevant but here it is

I have read so many threads like this with so many different "solutions". I've even sent my droplet to a photoshop tech who told me it worked and that was the end of that. I too have tried all sorts of stuff with changing permissions, running as administrator, running in compatibility mode. This hasn't worked properly for me since about 2006. Over the course of about 6 or 7 window installs on 4 or 5 different computers. Isn't there anyone at adobe that can look at this?

My guess is your sequence isn't set to the right framerate. 160 to 120 wont make that much difference. Infact when I shoot at 50 fps at 1/100 my camera looks pooh - better at 1/125. Make sure you go modify>interpret footage>framerate I dont use 24, but someone else might be able to say if you need to set it to 23.976 rather than 24 Make sure your sequence is at the same framerate otherwise it *will* look choppy. If it still looks weird you can try this: create a sequence that is 24fps, drop your 60fps footage onto it, ctrt-r (clip speed) 40% set time interpolation to optical flow, render (otherwise you wont see the result). (*this will only work if you shot at 60fps, not 59.9401).

This is a small thing, but I'm curious: Sometimes when I render using previews it whips though it in seconds (I have my previews set to cineform 10bit). With the whole piece rendered (green) it sometimes gets to a clips and appears to have to re-render it. For instance just rendered out a piece. One clip was 4k with noise reduction and it slowed to a crawl for that, then carried on at top speed. Just trying to get my head the mechanics of it.

Hi mr R Neil, thanks! One drive eh? I'll give it whirl. IT wouldnt' surprise me, I really liked one drive when I first used it, then found some clients couldn't access shared folders, then microsoft borked it. They really do know how to pull defeat from the jaws of victory. The rendering thing is not specific to one project. I know that I throw a *lot* of $h1t at premiere, and I'm constantly happily surprised when it *does* render You name it I do it: several lumetri effects, masks, adjustment layers with masks and lumetri, h.264 4k mixed with 1080, mp4s, quicktimes, backwards clips, speed ramped clips, 3rd party transitions and a different 3rd party effects suite. I guess the post came from the weirdness of the randomness of it. Why ppro has it's good days and it's bad. Me learning premiere has been as much about learning its moods as techniques - and I'm genuinely interested in what magic clearing the cache does! It's generally my universal panacea.

I just discovered that if Ppro hangs when you go to save a project: close everything else down, goto sign out of windows. It tells you that ppro is stopping you from signing out. Hit cancel. When you return it'll ask if you want to save changes before closing. Simply trying to close the window does not work for me.

So since I wrote this, now all my comments are being moderated? Was it the goat? I don't really see what warrants it, maybe the moderator who did that could let me know. This is a serious post, and my list could possibly help people who are finding renders difficult. I was genuinely asking for other people to contribute to it. If it seems frivoulous, thats just an attempt to lighten the mood - because the level of frustration is large.
