system: windows 10, 5820k, gtx1080ti, 65gb ram comp is a simple mov (its long though - 1 minute). using the stabilise motion track. (Although doesn't matter what track, once I've started it I cant stop. even when its lost the track completely and going mental, I have to sit there and wait for it to complete before I can do anything else). task manager reports AE as using 20% CCPU, 30% memory. But not that its not responding.

So I tracked with stabilise motion, moved the track data to a null object, set the parent of the video I want to stabilse to the null object. I notice the track data is on the anchor point. WHen I apply the smooth expression to the achor point it doesn't seem to do anything, whether I apply it to the null object anchor point or the vid. If I smooth(.3,5) the jitters remain. If I smooth(2,5), theres too much motion

so I just stumbled on the smooth expression. Could this not be used to smooth the jitter I described? I cant understand why system info is relevant? Anyhoo, its a windows 10 PC with i7 5820K, 64gb ram, gtx1080ti and footage on ssd. this is a typical frame I'm trying to stabilise. All I'm trying to do is keep the floater in the centre of the frame, so that I can comp it into a wider shot. I'll have other hudles to jump once I've done this but this is the first step. I've been tracking a super contrasty verision of the shot (below)

I have a drone shot where the center drifts a little here and there. I have an obvious track point, but surrounded by water so warp stabilise is out. When I track I get pixel jitter - the gross track is pretty good, but the jittering makes it useless. I'm an AE noob, but I was doing tracking in discreet logic effect 20 years ago and it was more robust than AE. Is there a simple way to do this?

Can someone please tell me if there is a better way to move down through the effects stack than using the mouse scroll wheel? I constantly am scrolling scrolling scrolling the mouse wheel to get where I want to be, or I have to use the scroll bar, which is also horrible. If I could make the scroll jump several lines at a time that would help. I alter my lumetri effects here to the effects stack is deep (because I often have several lumetri effects on the same clip, and the lumetri panel doesn't seem to handle that).

The problem with the subscription model is that although it ties you to a product, if your client base gets sufficiently cheesed off they leave, and then can never go back - and they only need to get that cheesed off with one product to take the lot out. This happened to me with microsoft this year: outlook search failed. Many many hours of tech support, and forums followed. Total waste of time. I installed emclient an found the search better than outlook. Without outlook the whole office suite was pointless: one drive is unreliable, alternatives exist for all the other office apps. Cancelled my subscription. There are an increasing number of apps taking aim at lightroom. Resolve and fusion are ever tempting. I'm not sure if I could ever live without photoshop though.

I had 253 running with a zillion chrome tabs. I have about 150 without it, 90 of which are windows processes. eek Annoying thing is that I'd previously disabled a load of them on startup.

I prefer keeping it in prem if I can. I had another fiddle yesterday and this is what I came up with: Adjustment layer: Add lumetri effect. Create path, track and invert Copy path to adjustment layer. Set to non-inverted and expand tweak expansion of both to grow or shrink stroke thickness. I created a preset with all that in description so I dont have to store it in brain!

Is there a way to stroke a path in an adjustment layer? I know that I can make a shape instead but shapes wont track, whereas paths will. I did work out a way of doing it using a couple of lumetri effects with paths on them but it was clunky. Wondered if there was a simpler way?

Thanks Bill, yes by the time I'm ready to do a new build we'll probably be onto the next HEDT generation. But I love AMD for not knobbling their processors PCIE lanes. When I finally get a graphics card that will fit my existing setup I'll run the benchmark, just for a giggle (I'm not expecting great things!)

ok folks. Anyone out there actually using it? I'm about to setup a new array, and reading around it seems its going to suck for writing. And for smaller files. How small no one seems to say. Will 70mb raw files be considered small? (I do lots of timelapse). In fact most of my video files are in the hundreds of megabytes range rather than gigabytes. I have 4 drives going into the array. to raid 5 or 3?

Just found a new workaround which I thought I should add to the list. It makes things sooooo much quicker. And It needs to go near the top (1a) 1. Set the sequence previews to a decent spec (like cinfeorm 10 bit) and try to render previews. Then export using previews If that fails... 1a. quit premiere, [windows] go to device manager and disable and re enable your display adapter. If that fails 2. quit premiere, restart premiere, try #1 again if that fails 3. quit premiere, delete media cache, try #1 again. If that fails 4. Reboot, clear media cache, try #1 again If that fails 5. break sequence up into sections by changing in and out points and try to render them out one at a time (which usually leads to) 6. Finding an offending section and rendering it out in some other way (removing some effects and doing an interim render) If that fails 7. Perform dance to the gods of Adobe, sacrifice goat, mash head into keyboard, have a valium and a lie down.

Eeek well I just bought a gtx1080ti. If it doesn't help I'll sell it. I do a lot of timelapse - 7-8K sometimes, it makes premiere wimper. I'm hoping the 11gb will help a bit with that, and that it'll help with my 4k footage with effects. I'll report back just in case anyone else is wondering about the same thing.

All the discussions you see comparing cards are about things like rendering times and the like. I'm aware that there's not much in it between these 2 cards for that but I cant help wondering if the extra 4gb of memory helps with playing-back and rendering cuda effects in 4k? I've not been able to figure out whether my system issues (black screening, failed GPU renders, constantly having to clear the media cache etc) is down to my gtx970 and will be helped by a new GPU. I'd love to get some input before dropping $1000!

nested 4k clip on 1080 timeline. Clip has 1 lumetri applied with a mask. If I try to apply another lumetri effect the program monitor goes black. This is a general behavior, not specific to this project, But just for giggles I created a new project and imported it. Once the program monitor goes black it will reliably require a restart of ppro, and often a reboot. It is driving me mental. Will a graphics card with more ram help with this? Windows, Ppro all up to date, GTX 970, 384.94 (this behavior seems driver independent) I have 3 screen, all different sizes. I must admit when I switch my smaller screen off the situation improves, but is not fixed.

Yes bill, it was a multipurpose drive at first, I weighed the pros and cons of raid 5 vs 3 seeing as I also had tonnes of small files. As I'm now doing more video when I create a new array I'll probably do raid3. But still need to decide which drives to use and whether an external solution would make more sense...

4k footage and my now more extensive use of cineform codec means my 7x2tb raid 5 is now no longer cutting the mustard. Its running on an areca 1223 8i with sata drives on windows (HGST enterprise). I tend to do small projects but end up keeping quite a lot of media, filling up my raid. Problem is that I dip into this media quite frequently, so it needs to stay on a relatively fast drive. I could ditch the raid altogether, or replace the drives with say 4x6tb drives giving me room to keep adding. or I could go to raid 0, and get used to doing daily backups (I've had a bad experience with raid 10, was a waste of time when it came to data security). I'm open to ideas, though - like an external solution with a more modern file system....?

Hi Rick, I just followed your video tutorial, but when I paste the tracking data from mocha well it doesnt work: just to clarify: I'm selecting export tracking data format: ae corner pin [corner pin only, supports RG warp and mocha import) Then pasting it into the corner pin effect I've just added to my layer. I cant tell whether your'e pasting into both corner pin and CC power pin. When I try to do that I get 2 copies of corner pin. When I paste the mocha data , I dont see the sign fullscreen like you did on the demo.

thanks rick. I just stabilsed the shot and its ready for mocha, but when I "track in mocha ae" it asks me to create a new project. The OK button is greyed out as its waiting for me to import footage. But isn't the footage I'm importing just being sent from AE? FFS I just exported the footage. It would not import mp4 mov (quicktime using cineform codec) open exr caused it to crash.

Tracking 4k footage. I've had multiple crashes and glitches including the one about the matrix (17::45), that happened several times whilst using the 3d tracker. It popped up the alert in a loop forcing quit. now I've finally got a decent track happening with the old tracker. I'm tracking backwards through the footage and it wont let me stop. This is the second time its done this. I'm used to premiere's foibles but its reasonably stable for me, and I know what to do if it starts misbehaving. Is AE tempermental or is it my setup? Hi Rick, thanks for linking that vid, yes looks like mocha will be perfect for what I want to do. Just spent a few hours fddling with the 3d tracker, and I can see it'll be good for some things but not for this. (And also AE crashing like crazy).

Its been 20 years since I last did anything more than really basic tracking, and I'm a bit bamboozled that it seems to be as crap now as it was then. (I hardly used AE back then, I used effect, which had great tracking, but autodesk killed it eventually.) I've trying to track a sign that comes towards the camera. WHen its far away the corners are too small to track, and when its close the tracker just wanders off all around around it. Eventually I want to replace the sign with video, but to start with I've got to center the sign on screen. Can someone please point me to the best mode or methodology?
