Camera tracker crashes AE (Buggy, or is it just me?)

Tracking 4k footage. I've had multiple crashes and glitches including the one about the matrix (17::45), that happened several times whilst using the 3d tracker. It popped up the alert in a loop forcing quit. now I've finally got a decent track happening with the old tracker.  I'm tracking backwards through the footage and it wont let me stop.  This is the second time its done this.

I'm used to premiere's foibles but its reasonably stable for me, and I know what to do if it starts misbehaving. Is AE tempermental or is it my setup?  Is there anything I can do to address it?

Sorry that you're having trouble with the 3D Camera Tracker!

What are your computer specs?
Are you on Windows or Mac? Which OS?Are you using After Effects v14.2.1.34?

Is it crashing while analyzing (Step 1) or while solving camera (Step 2)?

Does it crash if you work with 1080p footage instead of 4K?
