"IF" your Camera Raw is not up to date and fully compatible with the version of Lightroom you are using then Lightroom will be forced to create the PSD file before it opens Photoshop because Photoshop cannot edit raw data. When Camera Raw is fully compatible with Lightroom the data will transfer to Photoshop without the file being created first, and the PSD or TIF file will be created at the end of the Photoshop session. Is it possible that your version of Camera Raw is not fully up to date? In any case, once a raw file has been opened in Photoshop, when the editing session is complete a new file must be created because Photoshop cannot edit or save raw image data. That's why the Camera Raw plug-in is required.

Don't know if this is what you are referring to are not. When the crop tool is activated you can press the O key to toggle through the different crop overlays that are available, and aspect ratio is one of the overlays that will display.

I don't think such a tool would really be that effective because there would always be some part of the image that would need tweaking. That's why we have the ability to add the different filters and brushes. The sensor in the camera doesn't have the ability to adapt like the eye and the brain does and compensate. I doubt I would use such a feature much at all.

I wasn't aware it was possible to have the crop tool default to any specific aspect ratio. It has always been my understanding that the tool always defaulted to the aspect ratio of the original full-sized image, and that it was necessary to select any other aspect ratio desired. At least that is always the way it has seemed to be on my computers.

I suppose the idea has some merit. However, with the versatility of the different brushes (sky replacement, radial filter, etc.) I question whether I would personally use such a feature very often. But that's just me thinking about my own workflow.

I have done considerable scanning, but have never involved Adobe products in the scanning process at all. Keywords added in Bridge will not carry over into Lightroom. They have to be added in the catalog. I do my scanning with a third party application called Vue Scan and then import directly into Lightroom. I then add keywords and do all editing and add other metadata in Lightroom. It makes for a much simpler scanning workflow, in my opinion.

Adding images to a folder that is in a collection does not automatically add those images to the collection. It is also necessary to add the new images to the collection. The collection is a completely independent entity within the catalog, and can contain images from any number of folders.

You might consider disabling the graphics processor in the Lightroom preferences and see if that makes a difference. If it does then check to see if there is a driver update for your graphics processor. I don't see that problem on my Windows 11 computer.

It isn't about iCloud storage fees. Lightroom Classic is only available by subscription. The program is delivered via the cloud, installed locally on your computer, runs locally on your computer, stores images locally on your computer, just like previous versions of Lightroom have always done. There are features that enable you to share images in the cloud if you choose to do so, but that is optional. Lightroom Classic is updated via the cloud on approximately a quarterly basis. But the only way to have Lightroom Classic on your computer is to subscribe either monthly or annually.

It might be necessary to provide full disk access in order for you to continue. If you select "all conversations" in the forum there is a quick tip at the beginning instructing you on how to do that. I'm a Windows person, and haven't followed that thread.

I mean, it's not fun having to turn to a tripod all the time. Believe me, I know. But at age 79 I have had to decide how badly I want sharp images. In many instances I can get away with my "standard" shooting combination. But if I'm really seeking the best I can do then the tripod has to be considered. Another alternative is to burst shoot and hope that one of the images is acceptable. In many shooting situations that has worked quite well. It all depends on the subject and what I'm willing to accept.

Your choice. How sharp do you want your images? That is an issue I have had to deal with my entire life, living with a disability. With my current camera, I have discovered a reasonable compromise photographing at ISO 320, f/8 for my handheld images. But if I'm particularly concerned about absolute sharpness I will always turn to the tripod, backyard strolling or not.

If you installed Lightroom Classic then Lightroom Classic should have upgraded the catalog. That upgraded catalog is what will link and synchronize to the cloud. But you cannot just synchronize the images as such. It will be necessary for you to create "standard" collections and then synchronize those collections. It is the collections that get synchronized, not every image in your catalog. Please note that it is only possible to synchronize a single catalog at any given time.

What data are you expecting to be uploaded to the cloud? If you are using Lightroom Classic it's necessary to create collections and synchronize those collections to have smart previews synchronized to the cloud. Images don't just automatically get sent to the cloud because you are using Lightroom Classic.

When a file is exported from Lightroom a new file is created. As such, it must be dated at the time it is created. That is why it has a new date.

Try holding the Opt as you adjust the different sharpening tools. That might help you visualize what the tools are doing. Sometimes, depending on the quality of the image, the effect of sharpening can be subtle.

Are you viewing the image at 100% magnification rather than at normal viewing resolution? It is necessary to do so in order to see the effects of sharpening.

I have been a participant in the Lightroom forums for many years. I am trying to get my feet wet with Adobe Premiere Pro, but it's going to be a long, slow, painful process. Somehow I have gotten my Essentials editing screen messed up and can't seem to get it back the way it was when I first started using Premiere. Is there some sort of shortcut that will restore that arrangement, or is the whole interface supposed to be sort of a free-form open ended situation? Sorry to have to ask such basic questions.

This is only conjecture on my part, but I don't believe the camera is designed for high-speed USB-C transfer, at least not in Lightroom. You basically have two choices. Either continue transferring to the computer first and then into Lightroom or invest in a low cost card reader. It's a much more reliable method for transferring images. Or, you can keep fighting the system. Your choice. I don't think anything is broken in Lightroom.

Deleted images should be found in the trash on your computer. You can restore them from the trash, and that will return them to the folder where they were located. However, it will be necessary for you to import them into Lghtroom again and perform all of the editing because when you delete them from Lightroom there is no longer a record of any of the work in the catalog. It will be necessary for you to do all the work again. Of course, if you have emptied the trash then the DNG files will be gone and there will be nothing for you to recover.

How many images were actually imported in the previous import. On my computer, following an import, LrC shows the images of only the previous import. To see all the images contained in a folder it is necessary to navigate to the folder containing all images. Is it possible that is what you are experiencing?

You must be very particular when you choose tutorials because Adobe chose to name the two Lightroom versions so similarly. There is Lightroom Classic, which stores images on the local hard drive and utilizes a local catalog, and there is Lightroom which stores all your images in the cloud. The user interface (panels and layouts) ARE totally different, and tutorials for the one version are not going to be very helpful for the other because the feature sets are quite different.
In reality, "Lightroom CC" is an old designation that no longer holds true as a name for either version, although some tutorials even from Adobe still use that name. It hasn't been used as the official name for either version for quite some time.
