What exact version number of Lightroom 6 are you using? For my frame of reference, what do you mean that it keeps deactivating? I never used Lightroom 6. You must realize there is no support from Adobe for that version anymore. It is ancient, unsupported, no longer being updated in any fashion. If you're going to a printing course, the problem with working with smart previews is that they are not full resolution. And, working remotely with Lightroom.adobe.com doesn't give you any printing capabilities. One way would be for you to generate smart previews for the images you want to work on while you are away from home. The smart previews would be generated on your computer hard drive. You would be able to edit the smart previews with the external hard drive disconnected, and the editing performed on the smart previews would impact the master images when the external hard drive is reconnected. Of course, this would assume that you will disconnect the external hard drive and take your MacBook Pro with you.   Another approach would be to create a collection of the images you want to work on and synchronize that collection. In your first preview each of the images show a "spinning arrow" indicating that the preview hasn't been completed. That could have some impact on the difference. Not sure what you are trying to administer if you are referring to collections synced from Lightroom Classic. Those collections don't take up any of your allotted cloud space because the images that are synchronized are smart previews. While it's true that a "standard" subscription only provides 20 GB of cloud storage, that storage is only used when you import images directly into Lightroom (the cloud version). In my opinion, there is really nothing to gain by having your Lightroom catalog "match" your hard drive folder structure. There's a lot of stuff on your hard drive that has nothing to do with Lightroom or your photography. I think you would be much better off to simply create a master folder structure with subfolders for your images. Then, if it becomes necessary to move that collection of images at some time in the future, all that is necessary is to move the master folder and then update the folder location in Lightroom in a single step and you can move on quickly and effortlessly. Every trainer has their own ideas of how things ought to be and how things should work. I have never watched any of his videos. My only experience has been that moving things within LrC has made it too easy (for me at least) to drop images and folders in the wrong location and lose them. Although there are some employees of Adobe who comment here, most of us are just other users like yourself. But even employees are not allowed to disclose future plans. The only way you will know if a feature will be included is if it eventually IS included. Lightroom Classic is a much more feature-rich version than Lightroom "CC" (no such designation anymore). I use Lightroom Classic almost exclusively, and with all the other tools that have been added have not found it necessary to turn to the calibration adjustments for several years.
