No, because I could not get the custom shape icon (gear) to show up. I went under Window and clicked the Tools, but nothing happened. This is what I mean by intuitive. PS is horrid when it comes to being intuitive. Just horrid. Adobe needs to put in a thousand man hours to making this crap easy to use. Look how much trouble we are all going through here on the forum just to get a menu to show up some arrows. Just horrid user friendliness. Once the competition has intuitive figured out and included, I am out of here. Adobe needs to understand we do not need them. The competition is on the horizon and working to make their products easy to use. Adobe is not doing that. Bad decision that will cost them a lot of users.

You have not paid attention to this whole thread. Look at the screen shots at the top of this page. It shows the Photoshop Shapes menu which includes an array of arrows, outlined in red. I assumed you were aware of the array of arrows available to choose from in PS shapes. I guess not. You do not seem to understand the situation. Software being powerful and intuitive are not mutually exclusive. The property of "Powerful" is something that is programmed into the software. But, so is the property of "Intuitive." It is not by accident. Adobe is very poor at making software intuitive. Powerful, yes. Intuitive, no. And that is an extremely important weakness. It is something that can be corrected, but Adobe chooses not to do it. That makes the software difficult to use. It makes users look at alternatives. Adobe has competition now. Very strong competition. Adobe will lose customer base if they do not pay attention to what we want and need.

i am not fantasying arrays of arrows. They are present in other software to choose from as symbols for insertion. I cannot find them in PS. I don't have to take coursework to use the features in other software. They are intuitive which is a property of well programmed software. PS.is poorly programmed for ease of use, and it keeps changing dramatically with each version. Adios.

I got the arrow menu you showed in the options bar, but it still only lets me draw an arrow. I want to see an array of already drawn arrows, click on a selected one, and it appears on the photo for me to move around and put in place. This process is amazingly difficult. An array of arrows should be under a "Symbols" menu under the "T" menu. This is ridiculous. But, I have already found the solution in another photo software, so it's no longer an issue. The problem with going through a course on Photoshop is that you keep changing where the menu items are located, and the menu layout has to be learned all over again. Adios Photoshop subscription. Horrible.

In the meantime, I have used some other software, and it works beautifully to give me the arrow shapes. PS - impossible, impossible, impossible. Put them under, "Edit", "Insert", "Shapes", "Arrows" or something to that effect. JEJ

I can't get any shapes tool to show up in the top menu bar. The tools that are there do not highlight when clicked. We need to start with "Boot PS", then step - by - step. Click this, click that, click this, click that. It is just impossible without detailed, detailed instructions.

I ended up going to MS Excel and getting the arrows there and copying them to an old photo software program (not PS), and creating my arrowed image there.

I cannot get the gear icon to show up so that I can click on it and see the arrowheads menu. I can see the line and shape tool listed but cannot get them to show up in the menu bar either on the left or the top. PS has just become too non-intuitive to use anymore. I am going to some other software. PS has just become horrid. JEJ

I have PS CC 2019. I want to insert an arrow onto a photograph. I cannot get it done. I tried resetting the shape tools menu to no avail. Where the hell is an arrow and what do I click to get there?. You need to stop moving things around. It becomes a nightmare. Fortunately I have other photo editing software programs that are much easier to use and have easy to insert symbols. I am going to cancel my Adobe subscription if the continuing changes to each version are too difficult to navigate.

Not an answer to my question. I can't find the particular videos on YouTube to get the instructions. So, I am cancelling my subscription to Adobe software. I will use other software, and help them make their programs user friendly. Here, was a failure of the Adobe forum. I will let Adobe know why I am cancelling the subscription, as they are sure to ask, since it means money disappearing from their cash register. Adios.

Still confusing. No, I don't like the special collection nonsense. It's not special. What I want to see is my open catalog of photos. Then I want to add more photos to that open catalog. I want to see my open catalog of photos AND the new ones added to that catalog, all on one desktop workspace. I will then make adjustments on the new photos. The catalog with the new photos will save when I close the program. How do I do that? Step by step, please. Do not leave out any steps. The current setup does not work. All I see is the new photos, and they seem to be a new catalog that Lightroom has created when I imported them, not part of the previously open catalog. I am on the edge of giving up and cancelling my Adobe subscription. Taking money out of your cash register is apparently the only way to get your attention. Photoshop has a "Save As" function. Lightroom should also have that. It doesn't at this point. Lightroom is very powerful, but it is extremely, and I mean extremely difficult to use.

I opened a catalog. Dozens of photos were were now displayed on the Lightroom desktop workspace. I clicked "Import Photos and Video". I browsed to the directory where the photos that I wanted to add to the catalog were located. All the photos in that directory were now shown on the Lightroom desktop workspace. I unticked the photos that I did not want to add, leaving just one photo that was still ticked. I clicked "Import". All the photos in the catalog now were not on the desktop. They had disappeared. Only the one photo that I imported was shown. So, now, I only could work on that one new photo. I no longer had access to the other photos in that catalog. So, terrible, terrible user friendliness. If I could find another software program that was not so pathetically difficult to use, I would be long gone. But the other programs are at least as bad, or worse. If another company can find someone with intelligence, who can design software with truly user friendliness and intuitiveness, Adobe will be toast. But I am not holding my breath.

I can't understand why you can't understand what I am saying. I tried to add new photos to an open catalog, but it did not work. The procedure needs to be made more user friendly. Lightroom is very powerful, but is catastrophically difficult to use. One goes around in circles trying to execute functions that should be simple, but are not. If I need to download a book to use Lightroom, that is clear evidence that the software is horribly difficult.

Another issue is adding more photos to an existing catalog. I could not get this to happen. i had to delete the entire lrcat directory and re-import all the old photos with the new ones and create a new catalog with the same name as before. This is a procedure that desperately needs revision. Once a catalog is open, there needs to be a new menu item in the file menu. It should offer, "Import new photos to the open catalog". Then you go to the directory where your new photos are located, click on them, then click "Add" and the new photos are added to the catalog that is open on the Lightroom desktop workspace. I am surprised that after so many years, Lightroom is still massively defective in the user friendliness and intuitiveness area.

Luminar is not worth a crap either. It only works on photos one at a time, rather than having a set of photos to work on, saved as a catalog. So, I guess Lightroom is the least of all evils and will stay as my standard photo software. Sorry for the trouble I caused, but really, you need to work on making Lightroom more intuitive.

By the way, I downloaded ON1. It is even worse. It crashed and I had to go to "Start Task Manager" and click "End Task". So, don't waste your time with ON1. Doesn't anyone make easy to use software?

I am using Lightroom Classic CC 2018 and Windows 7. I end up going around in circles with no creation of the lrcat file except by accident and I cannot recreate the accident. After "New Catalog" it only offers "File Name" and "Save". I have to manually type in a file name and type lrcat as the extension. You need to modify the program so that, after importing a set of photos for which you want to have as a catalog, the menu should offer "Save As", then "New Catalog", then go to the directory you want, and type in whatever file name you want, then click "OK" and the lrcat file with the file name you typed in is created, with the photos that you imported onto the Lightroom desktop workspace.

I am having enormous difficulty creating a new catalog. I clicked on the "New Catalog" button in the file menu, but the software would not create an lrcat catalog. I actually had to type in a name for the file and type in lrcat as the extension. You really need to redesign this, as currently it is terrible. I should be able to import photos and then click "Save As" and then click "Catalog", typing in the name of the catalog and it saves the catalog with the lrcat extension. Right now, it is horrid. Some of the most difficult to use software I have ever had. Almost not worth the trouble.

Yeah, me either. I can't save a large PSD file. What kind of nonsense is this? I worked 2 hours on a PSD and got an error message that the larger than 2GB PSD file could not be saved. That is horrid software programming. I have other photo software to try now. You must, must fix this. You also need to add vignetting as its own menu option in Adjustments. Vignetting is very important in photography. Your current method of using a radial gradient is poor. And it only works in ACR.

Obviously Topaz Studio will not have the extensive range of features in Photoshop, but if enough users let them know what features are really needed, then it can become a good alternative. Another promising program is Corel Aftershot. It has layers, but no masking at present. It will require users to let them know that masking is a necessary addition. In any case, I think there are enough users out there who want an alternative to CC that a major competitor will eventually arise.

Topaz Labs has just introduced a beautiful new software program, called Topaz Studio, that has a ton of features, including masks and compatibility with RAW image formats. It can be downloaded for free it order to try it out. I have downloaded it, and it appears to be extremely sophisticated. I plan to contact all the companies that make plug-ins for Photoshop and ask them to make the plug-ins compatible with Topaz Studio, as well as some other new image software programs that have masking, and look promising. I will report back here when I get answers from them.

I have decided that we should just put the previous discussion in the past and move forward. I tried other software and it does not do what I need. Audition has the best dithering that I have encountered. So, what I propose is that I will just post spectra that I think are incorrect, and you can decide if Audition is indeed creating incorrect spectra and put them into a bug report. All I ask is that you let me know when they have been corrected. I will then download Audition in a trial form, and if everything is working correctly, I will resubscribe to 2017 CC, hopefully with the problems in the other programs having been corrected.

The advice you offered did not work, so it was not completely accurate in any sense of the word. It produced errors in the spectra. You went from telling me that you didn't believe me to saying that I was wrong and that it was end of discussion, and then admitted that there is a bug in the dithering process, which is what I was claiming in the first place. It is shameful for the Audition forum monitors to treat an Adobe customer this way.
