While it is a shape the centre is at the logical centre from how the polygon is constructed. When the shape is expanded it is converted to paths and the centrepoint is now the mean centrepoint of the bounding box. I do understand that if you are intending to create certain shapes using a polygon that can be frustrating, grouping the shape with a circle where all corners of the polygon touch the circumference would make the centre of the circle the logical centre. keeping that circle as a construction would help to find the centre.  ... Indesign because of its more advanced typography is more sensitive to defects in fonts. I cannot say if that is the case, but Photoshop and Illustrator may still work, so don't exclude that it's still the font that is the issue. If InDesign is working fine without the font installed and crashes when font is installed it does sound like the font is the issue. Check the version of the font, try and download it again. I see that it is a variable font? Did you download from google or some other place, check if there are different versions of the font. Is the file on the cloud or a local drive or on a server? There are some kind of corruption in a read/write critical stage that is unrecoverable, these are more common when working to a network or cloud service, so would reccomend especially with large files to work locally. (And eject USB files correctly) It may work to reneme the ending as .pdf and open in Acrobat. You will lose some of the editability, but may be able to salvage the appearance. Do you mean that the corners "Shoot over" like at the top of the chimney? This is something that happens because of the rules of mathematics. when you have a stroke sharp corners will extend depending on the sharpness of the corner. Use rounded corners and/or buts on strokes to avoid this. Strokes exaggerated for clarity. (you may need to set Stroke Panel to Show Options so that you see these settings) ... View more

If you are working on web graphics make sure your Transparancy blend options are set to RGB. (Starting with a Web or screen preset should set that) This should change so that you don't "Dull graphics".   Whenever transparency is used InDesign is forced to siulate transparency flattening and if this is sett to CMYK you are making InDesign simulate print (CMYK) colours, and it is this that you are reacting to. If the end is Print it is infact giving you a more realistic expectation. and if you have proof colours enabled you do not see colour shift since you are already in the "CMYK" view mode. The question is about how much of design is creation and mapping intent and how big a part of that is redering a realistic representation where when there still are a number of parameters that are needed to generate that, result… perhapps AI will help push technology to where that is possible, or perhapps the technologies in Substance could one day give us this kind of previews in future. Does the AMD graphics card have dedicated VRAM or is it sharing RAM between CPU and GPU? 3D is the most demanding on computer power. Try the effect with a simple shape to see that it is working as it should. Make sure that vectors that you use for 3D are clean in that they should not have excessive amount of anchor points. ... If preflight is green and resolution in images is acceptable it could be the transparency flattening settings that have been set to rasterise at a too low resolution. Normally you can set transparency flattening settings.  ... View more

I understand what you are saying, and how you would like for spot colours to be dispayed as opaque simulation… Spot colours are used also for metalicts, varnishing and embossing where these are not visible, but still need to be represented on screen, yes it is possible to render a simulation of print, but this is not what overprint preview is.  I would suggest trying a software like Esko Studio. How is your white spot colour defined. You can define a spot colour to have any appearance. (I normally will make it Pink or some bright green depending on colours that do not appear in design). If you are using a blue rectangle use a colour that will show on blue. White will show as darker since it is overprinting.  Spot colours may be defined any colour model, but must be displayed as "Overprint" so that you can judge trapping etc. Spot colours that overprint can not display as knocking out what is under. ... Use separations preview to track/measure the black both in InDesign and in Acrobat. I suspect Transparency flattener set to RGB or document CMYK is not the same as output CMYK, Use PDFX standards to make sure that the exported colours are also the output Intent. Colour managemet may convert so that a black in one output intent is mapped to a lighter tint in another output space. About SVGs, you can make illustrator SVG smaller but it may not help bring PDF size down. SVG works by not having as many decimals. but that rounding off may simplify or distort paths without gaining much file compression. Seeing the kind of image would help give advice but generally if you have few colurs and crisp lines PNG or TIF and if tehre are many gradients then exporting a copy as JPG to place for digital file may be a way to slim the file (with a certain loss of quality hlere resolution vs quality will also vary depending on style of artwork).  ... An Indesign file can be bigger than the PDF since the preciews of placed files may be different than the files themselves. Content streams may be vector graphics. (If you delete images and then export you would know how much you can save, you can text on a copy of couple of pages to see what happens. Compare with image and without image) . could you show a sample of a typical page with image? Is it line art? Technical illustration or rich graphics with transparency and effects? Do you also have backgrounds and textures? Try saving with "smallest file size" PDF setting… and even if it isn't what you want comparing different export settings in size and file usage may help to understand where you can save file size.  (When printing it is not unusual to get PDF files that are 10x as large as your file without having production problems) ... As others have mentioned can you help to disambiguate the term print. Are you sending to a comercial Print shop or is it a printer (device) you have? Do you know more specific if it is printed in offset, inkjet or  xerography (laser printer) or some other method? When you say blurry could you specify is it "soft" or "miss registered"? (A close up of photograph of the print would help). If you are printing the PDF I hope you are printing from Acrobat, or using a RIP (Fiery/ Apogee/ Printergy/ Onyx etc)   If you are expecting high quality line art you may need to exceed 300PPI and make sure that black/grey is black (K or Key) only. Illustrations can be more tricky to print that photographs because Photographs are more forgiving. If you are sending to a comercial printer there may be downsampling happening, but without access to the files it is a little guesswork.  ... View more

This is strictly a question for the Acrobat forum. Your title says you need to shrink InDesign File but your text that it is the PDF that needs slimming. What PDF setting are you using? What is your transparency flattening settings? In Adobe Acrobat there is an audit tool so that you can see what is taking memory. Keeping text as text rather than outlining, excluding fonts and/or makng sure that fonts are only included once (by not having the fonst included in the AI files may be one place to look).
