I've imported a series of about 20 .PNG files into Ae like I have many times before to make an animation, however now, on some of the images, I'm getting that 'test pattern' as if the images are missing.... (?). I've reopened in Photoshop, resaved with different names, reimported and still the problem persists when I preview ... Any ideas?

To be honest, I don't see the word 'Alpha' in any menu... but anyway, I converted the TIFF files to PNG and they work fine. It's unknown to me why the TIFFs worked before... but anyway, thanks so much for your help Mike, I really appreciate it! Hugh (aka Ryan)

Thanks Mike, but like I said, I was able to save a bunch of TIFFs with transparency and import them into AE and it was fine, but now its not... I guess I'll compose in Photoshop... but no idea why I'd need to all of the sudden.

Yes, it has transparency - I don't want to bother sending the hi-res TIFF(s) I'm working with since the forum doesn't support it.. The issue is definitely with AE... I know Photoshop backwards and forwards, and have used transparency in images like this in AE several times before, sucessfully (including earlier today), however I am self taught with AE, and I'm worried that I clicked something by accident perhaps... I'd chalk it up to a crash/glitch, but I have rebooted twice.

I had several TIFFs with transparency imported (to make a video sequence) - AE is no longer recognizing the transparency (it seemed to 'switch off') while I was working... any ideas? The files are still in the same spot/same name/same characteristics...

Mac OS High Sierra Version 10.13.6 Ai 24.0.1 I can save locally (to desktop) as well as to the server - however I encounter the same issue about 'save' not greying out and asking to save despite the fact that it did, indeed save. Appears to be only on my account (not the 2 other individuals I asked)... weird

Current Version - Mac - File Saving - despite saving a file, it doesn't have 'save' greyed out after it actually saves, then when I close the document, it asks if I want to save (!).
This is a bad glitch - I have to look on my server to see if, in fact, the file has saved - ADOBE - PLEASE FIX!!

'Scratch Disk Full' after I upgraded to 21.0.2... why?? 250.79 GB Drive - 6.18 GB available... before Upgrade it worked fine... Can't run scripts or change color profiles.

I want to make a mask from a vector object (let's say a hexagon). I have footage of a store, which I want to mask with this object for only part of the duration (not a track matte, since it seems like I can't make it appear/disappear etc.) How on earth do I do this?   I know a lot of you will say "This is basic, dumbass!" - to them I say, yes, I am a dumbass when it comes to AE which is super complex, and I'm 100% self taught.

I think you are correct in that a lot of 3D programs would allow you to make alpha channels however the one I use unfortunately does not since it is somewhat proprietary and limited. That being said I think you gave me an idea that I could re-export the 3D model with a black background and make the model itself white and then I could use that as a moving mask....

Well I generated a series of still images (TIFFs)... the background could've been any color - I just chose green to make it easier to remove. The 3D program doesn't have the ability to create Alpha channels/transparency unfortunately. I then imported the series of images as footage into AE. From what I can determine from tutorial, I'd have to draw a path around the object, and hope that ae can 'morph' that path as the object revolves/scales etc. Unless I'm missing something, that would take a helluva lot longer than 15 seconds....

I might have this wrong, but I assume you could do this: Take the series of layers you have in Photoshop Export them as individual images (save as I think) Import into AE as Tiff sequence - voila!

Since I generated the original footage, I can run a batch process in Photoshop to remove the background (it's a series of about 600 Tiffs, stitched together to make the footage). I'll have to track matte in the future when I have more time. Thanks again!

I have a rotating object that is on a solid neon green background. When I use Keylight, it removes the green just fine, but also messes with the green within the object. Is there any solution to masking it (besides using clipping paths etc.)?

How do I learn how to make basic 3D objects in PhotoShop? Most of the time, learning things via tutorial on Youtube or something is easy and fun, but with Photoshop 3D, it's a big challenge. Often the tutorials will be about things like text into 3D or faking the dimensional effect - what I want to do is, for example, create, lets say, a muffin - how do I create it from scratch, manipulate it/paint it and export it?
