If the table is in a Word doc, I have had great success in saving the doc as a RTF and opening it in FM. Just have to change the cells to the correct para format...ect. Have you tried that? Course, I don't know for sure what software the table was made in. ls ... View more

Yea!!! Thank You!! I did have it set for complete, but chose customize and saw that the file wasn't in that plugin folder that FM was looking at. I had placed it in the plugins folder directly under FM9. I moved the file to the correct plugin folder under FM9/fminit, restarted FM and it is there...now to use it...likes a bunch!! ls ... If you set the initial view of the pdf to single page continuous, the whole page is shown when the bookmark or cross reference is clicked, instead of the image/table cross reference at the top of the page. Maybe I am misunderstanding what your problem is though. ls ... View more

After reading all the msgs since Friday. I did try to open all the files in my book and print to a ps file. Took forever. Also, why do you have to reset every document in the book when FM crashes? I have to wait every time when I try these things because I don't want to have to do that. Seems just reseting the book file itself would work. Anyway, I have attached a jpg of my current programs, add in's....ect. that seem to be maybe things I should get rid of. Would one of you take a look and let me know. Maybe that is my problem. Wellll, I installed the hotfix. Still did a save as pdf that took 30 minutes. Was kind of scared to print to a pdf. Saw Arnuis's comment, so did it anyway....I really knew better...lol.... Art, I save to pdf. I would actually have to leave work if I printed to pdf...lol...doesn't work. Can't remember the problem and scared to try right now to find out cause I dont' want to crash... My computer Windows XP Professional Version2002 Service Pack 3 Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4CPU 3.00GHz 2.99GHz, 3.25GB of RAM Using Acrobat 8.1 Professional. (Haven't upgraded because I saw too many posts with people having problems.) Using Adobe Design Premium CS3 (I use AI files, we always have for any vector files and way to many to change over to EPS.) We have also been changing over from Interleaf. Thanks Art, but it seems to be a FM problem. As the others have said, they have the same problems....and I have seen others posting over the months. I was just hoping that maybe someone had found an answer. I can't move all my files back and forth from the network to my desktop to make a pdf. We are talking about100's of vector and image files for just one book and we are printing highlight color. So, I have a color and grayscale version of every image that I have in my manuals. Plus, from what Van said, it seems it doesn't save that much time. Guess I will just wait on the pdf's until this is corrected or just live with it if Adobe can't come up with a solution. Has this been answered anywhere??? I have soooo many problems with this. I have separted sections of one book into 7 books because it takes so long to make a pdf. ....and I mean....15 to 20 minutes for a large doc...maybe 400 pages...that seems crazy to me. ....but I have many illustrator file. Below is what I did. E:Example <n=1>: \t (This would be called example1.) E:Example <n+>: \t (This would be called example2.) Then for substeps it would be as any other substep. I used "a" as the series number for "answer". a:<a=1>. \t (This would called substep1.) a:<a+>. \t (This would be called substep 2.) You of course would have to set up your tabs for the tab (\t). This may be kind of like the other answer, but just seemed a little easier to me. I save the quicksilver doc to release 5 and open it in FM9. It seems to be the easiest way. The tables come over great!! You do have to get rid of all the para formats ect from the document.  I also delete all the pics before I save it down to release 5. Just a lot easier. If you don't you will have all kinds of stuff all over the place. To get the pics, I print the quicksilver doc to a pdf and either open the in Illustrator or Photoshop, depending on if vector or image. Save them and import them into my FM doc. Also, when you open it in FM, do a find and replace for any marker. I just replace with nothing and it gets rid of all the markers from quicksilver. Delete all the para tags brought over and then import the document formats you want from a doc you already have set up. It is really pretty simple. Considering how bad other things go into quicksilver.....it should be really easy for you. Let me know if I can help any further. I have been having to do this constantly, since we have moved over to FM9. ls PS: After reading the other answer again. Copying and pasting straight from quicksilver is a good way to do it, and you don't get the para tags. I don't do this because I am afraid that I am going to not get things numbered, bulleted....ect correctly. I may give it a shot though, just so I don't have to get  rid of quicksilver's numbering ect. But saving down to release 5 and opening the doc in FM is awesome for tables. ... View more

Art, On the subject of pdf's. I save as PDF because if I print to pdf...I could go home from work and I don't think it would ever make a pdf. But, even saving as pdf, it takes forever!! The longest section in my book is 236 pages. I have all the sections in different books instead of in one big huge file. When I save to a pdf, it takes about 30 minutes. Just seems that is crazy! Now, the pdf is awesome, and has the bookmarks and links, just don't know why it takes sooooo long. I realize this has been talked about alot in this forum. Sheila,   I had forgotten that you can copy and paste from Interleaf to FM. I might start doing that for some text. It doesn't seem to bring over quite as much junk. Well, tried converting pdf to rtf. Many of the pages did not come over. I have also tried converting my Interleaf file to rtf. It isn't that great either. The only time I do that is when my Interleaf file will not open in FM after saving it down to Interleaf 5. I guess, anytime you are changing software, it just is going to mean a lot of clean up.
