You can get that specific info from the CAD program that was used to draw the blueprints. Acrobat's measurement features are handy for quick verification, but aren't as accurate or as extensive as found in CAD apps.

When using for example the Area (though also applicable to perimeter) tool to measure the area of say a square, as you go round and click on each corner, you are given the distance of the individual line you just measured. However, once you make the final click to finalize the area measurement, I cannot see anyway to then retrieve the data showing the distances of each individual line. If you click on the square, you can see the "nodes" at each corner. but that is all. Does anyone know how to retrieve this data? The Area tool gives you the cumulative value of all sides, not the individual sides. You could use the Distance tool to measure each side separately.

TCS4 came with Illustrator CS6. Do you still have that installed, by any chance? Drawing shapes, and setting fill and stroke colors is very straightforward.

Oh good! I'm horrified that I typed it wrong and you pulled out all the returns—that would be devastating to a new user. I trust you've been around the block and knew to either undo or revert? These are the scenarios that wake me up at night! Anyway, happy weekend to you, FieryPantone!

Oops. My mistake. I wrote: Find: \p| where I meant \P| Replace: [blank] Wildcards enabled The case makes all the difference. It's in the screen shot correctly, but I typed it incorrectly. When you have time, could you try it one more time, FieryPantone? I'm testing on 2015 and don't have 12 installed at this point.

I have contacted support That's good. And my thought was to import the file as smaller sections into your template. Once in and tagged, you could still cut and paste into one large .fm file. Not optimal by any means, but I've had to resort to that myself. Though in my case it's always crashing on import—I've never seen the ¶¶¶ nightmare that you are experiencing. One more random thought—are there any hand-drawn illustrations in Word, i.e., organizational charts? Sometimes removing those makes a difference for me. I'm hoping you will come back and update the post once you get it working.

select the "remove empty paragraphs" button So this means yes, you are using File > Import > File and the mapping dialog box. That also means you saw the warning about not to use .docx files so presumably you already tried a .doc file? 235 pages is a long Word doc—are there tables and figures included? Maybe it would make sense to break it into smaller sections?

Wow. That's a nightmare. What happens if you save the file back to a .doc (Word 97-2003) file and try again? You are using File > Import > File and the Fm to Word mapping dialog box, right?

Sorry, had to run back into class. I have used the F/C sequence I mentioned above forever, but it leaves trailing whitespace behind. We all know that we want to leave nothing to chance in our extremely long docs, or Murphy's law will kick in and will add a blank line just for a hard return. This GREP works for trailing whitespace and multiple returns (but falls short on just multiple returns). Find: \s+$ Change: [blank] Regular Expressions (aka GREP) on This is where I remember why I want Fm to allow us to save our queries, so that we can set them up once, save them and just choose them from a list later. Mine are all tucked safely away on a piece of paper that I can't find at the moment.

Hi Lynne! I use that combo for this situation, which I thought FieryPantone was asking about, but perhaps I misunderstood? Of course with GREP we have better options now!

Is it possible to run the update to version 5.5 with the same serial number or is it only a 30-days test version? I don't know if your serial number will work. I would think so, but I'm not sure. I do know that CS5.5 has long since reached end of life, so Adobe isn't going to be a resource. I was hoping someone else would step in with a clear answer for you. If it were me, I'd give it a shot.

I cannot discern whether FrameMaker2015 is creating empty paragraphs automatically within the new document or if it is an issue with the Word source file. That's where I'd start. Open the Word file and click the pilcrow (¶) to show the non-printing characters. Take a look at a few of the places where you are finding unexpected hard returns. Typists do the darnedest things. If you find them, post a pic of a page in Word with non-printing chars visible—depending on how they handled intentional returns, it may be fairly easy to isolate the unintentional returns and replace them with a space.

It's part of my Acrobat class materials—so something I've always taught—but before I scare you, it's just a stop on the road to discussing how to get a basic PDF vs. how to get optimal PDFs out of the various Microsoft and Adobe apps.

Do you own Adobe Acrobat Pro? You can use File > Open to convert a file to a PDF on the fly—some of these conversions (like Powerpoint) need the application installed. I don't think you need InDesign installed, but I can't test it because I have it installed. I did test opening the .indd file in Acrobat Pro (see below) and it converted it.

Right? It's been one track since I started teaching Acrobat at v3. The differences between the Mac/Win versions don't bother me, nor Reader/Standard/Pro... it's subtle differences between the two Pro DC tracks that are driving me nuts! Ok. I'm done. Thanks for listening.

In Acrobat this option is only available in the Continuous (Subscription) track, not the Classic track. Which is a constant source of confusion for me, try67 ... I have Classic with my Tech Comm Suite license and Continuous with my Creative Cloud subscription—one on the Mac side and on on the Windows side of a single computer. I tend to check whichever one is open when a question comes in and don't seem to have the brain power to remember that what I see in one may not be in the other. Am I the only one wishing for one track for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC?
