Hi Burtin: There are a number of ways to create a good PDF from FrameMaker, but I'd start with File > Save as PDF. Are you doing this because you need to lock down the numbering, but then any added pages pick up the point numbering? There is an old feature (unsupported as far as I know at this point) that's still lurking in Fm 2015 call point pages that handled this. But I know there are issues with the feature so I don't think it's worth pursuing. That said, I've not seen a variable available in any version—including 2015—that can do this for you. Hi EarleFox: Did you try clicking the Padlock icon on the Quick Access toolbar? It's a toggle, though it sure doesn't look like it. Alternatively, close the file and look in the folder where the file is saved. If you see a corresponding file with an .lck extension, delete it. Fm leaves these lock files behind when it crashes while the files are open. ... View more

Create your gradients in the Gradient panel and save them in Swatches. You can assign them from there without starting with B/W. Double click the Fill or Stroke icon in the Toolbox and voila: the Color Picker, just like Photoshop. The tools shortcuts were intended as shortcuts for those with motion disabilities, who aren't facile with a mouse. I still use them, and recommend post-its to help you learn the ones you care about. Select the blue box, turn on Draw Inside mode at the bottom of the tools panel. Cut the green box and paste it inside the blue one. Don't forget to turn Draw Normal on when done. Easiest.Mask.Ever. Double click the Eyedropper before using it to tell it what you want it to pick up. Press Sh+X to swap fill and stroke color. Try not to inadvertently click the Perspective Drawing tool. If you can't help yourself, turn off the grid with View > Perspective Grid > Hide Grid. On the other hand, have you checked out the color inspiration tools with the Color Guide panel and Adobe Color. Ok, I can help with that... open Finder, open the Go menu and then press Alt while the menu is down and watch the Library menu show up. (It's hidden so that you won't stumble into and start messing stuff up.) Assuming that you see the handles (which means the photo isn't just showing through from a master page), I can't think of any other reason that you can't move the frames, other than a bug. To get your project done, you could move objects via the Control panel with the X & Y coordinates—but what a painful process. Do the keyboard arrow keys nudge the frames? First of all, congratulations on deleting the preferences! It's a peculiar sequence. So you are trying to move a graphics frame... using the Selection tool (the black arrow) and pressing your mouse down inside the frame while simultaneously avoiding the doughnut in the middle? Working from left to right: the first red rectangle shows the Selection tool, the second shows the doughnut to avoid, the third shows the cursor inside the frame but away from the dreaded doughnut, and the fourth shows that the image is not locked. ... Are you talking about unassigned frames? If so, be sure to place your cursor over the edge of the frame before pressing and dragging the mouse to move the objects. If you are referring to text or graphics frames which you can normally move from the middle, perhaps something is locked? You might try Object > Unlock all on Spread. If it's neither of these, a screen shot would be really helpful. You can add it to this thread by using the 7th button on the toolbar when you reply. As for erasing the preferences file, it's trickier than it sounds. Get your four fingers ready on your one hand, hovering over Shift, Control, Opt and Command. @Matt: I'm quicker in Photoshop, and I can use Actions to automate a lot of the process. It's so darn clunky in FramerMaker—the "illustration" tools haven't been updated in 26 years! I did play with the canvas size, same result. @Arnis: Ummm, no... it didn't occur to me ... and it worked! It's the psd format that's the issue. I saved it as a png and the line is gone. I'm taking (and annotating) a bazillion screen shots so I don't want to use a format that will flatten my vector layers because if I get a correction I'll have to set up the whole shot again and then re-annotate. But the line is showing up in FrameMaker, before I ever get around the making the PDF! (That's a FrameMaker 11 screen shot up there.) I read the string on the horizonal line, and played with flattening the file, but got the same results. I'm leaning on the side of it being a FrameMaker issue: the same .psd image does not produce that line in InDesign so it's not in the .psd file, and while yes, the line shows up in Acrobat (I'm viewing it on Pro X), it's also visible in FM when the borders are hidden.
