I'd start with a Save-As to another location, so as to not write over the original just yet. Save-As can clean a file of some information that was needed at one time, but is no longer needed (such as undo information). The file size usually gets smaller as a result. If that doesn't work, export as IDML, and then open the resulting file. That will also remove junk data from a file. If those don't work, come back and let us know.

You've probably already thought of this, but does the previous chapter have an odd number of pages? That would do it, but it doesn't explain why the first left page is blank, so probably not the problem. You might try deleting all of the chapters from the book, delete the extra page on that one book chapter document, make sure all documents are set to start at page 1 with automatic page numbering, and then getting all of the documents back into the book. Sort of like restarting your computer.

In your title, you say (Without Table). Does that mean you don't want to use a table? If so, it can be done with alternating paragraph rules set as wide as your type is high, and colored as you need, but it only works if every line of type is it's own paragraph.

The company I work for likes to keep fonts in Applications>InDesign>Fonts, so when I upgraded from 2018 to 2019, I had to move the fonts from the old fonts folder to the new one. Maybe you have something similar.

Save-As will do it, but it's possible that it might look different. PostScript doesn't have all of the features that are available in PDF, so some conversion might not look the same, but it might be OK. I'd check the printouts a little carefully.

I'm using Acrobat 2019.008.20074 on an iMac running OS 10.13.6. Since upgrading from 2018, some PDFs have missing elements when viewed at Zoom to Page Level (Command Zero). Here's a few screen shots: The second screen shot is what I'm supposed to see, and the first is what I get on random PDFs. In this case, I was comparing a PDF exported from InDesign 2019 (High Quality Print), and the same PDF when rastered through an Esko RIP. In this example, the original had the problem, and the rastered version did not, but in other files I checked, either or both had the problem, while other files were OK as original or rastered. I know that what you see can change when you change the zoom percentage, but I've never seen something this drastic. It happens on PDFs that we create (we're a printing company), and also with files we receive from our clients that we don't typeset for, so I'm thinking it's not just a setting that I have wrong somewhere, but I'd be glad to try any suggestions. If the zoom percentage is 43.3% when I hit Command 0 and the page displays wrong, changing the view percentage to anything else will clear it up, but Command 0 will show it again if pressed. I can also enter 43.3 in the zoom and have it show correctly, but Command 0 will show it wrong subsequently Anyone else getting this?

I second that notion. You have one single paragraph, but if you had a full paragraph return ¶ at the end of each of the first two lines, and then one after 1978 in the 4th, followed by one after County. in the 5th, etc., you could set a left indent where you want the subsequent lines of a paragraph to begin, and a negative of that amount for the first line indent, which will bring each first line back to the left side of the text frame. And I definitely wouldn't use what you have in the last two entries, where a tab brings your text down to a new line. That's what we used to have to do in the typewriter days.

Have you considered using a music engraving program like Finale or Sibelius? You can attach lyrics and chord symbols to specific beats, and you don't have to show the rhythms if you only want to see the lyrics. If you want to use InDesign, I'd recommend not having a line of chord symbols followed by a line of lyrics unless you are OK with reworking them manually. I'd put the chord symbols next to the word they go with, either with baseline shift and tracking, or as custom anchored text frames, as was described above. That way, if you have to rework them, the chords will remain attached to the correct word.

Margin means the space between the trim (the edge of the paper) and the live area (the text and images). If they ask for 1/4" margins, I take that to mean that you shouldn't have any text or images any closer to the edge of the page than 1/4". That would mean that your finished size is 7x5, and your live area will be 6.5x4.5 (1/4" taken from each of the 4 edges, so 1/2" from the width and 1/2" from the height). carlys29057646 wrote …(so the book is now 7.25x5.25)… Did you do that, or is that their template size? If you did it, I'd say you're going the wrong way (making it larger instead of smaller—which isn't exactly true, since it should stay the same size, but only the live area should be smaller, and then only if it is closer to the edge than 1/4" as you designed it). If, on the other hand, you have image that extends to the edge, and you want to keep that, you will need bleed, which is what Derek is asking you about. Before doing anything, I'd check with the printer to see if they mean margin or bleed.

That's a little like asking for someone's Netflix password. Most companies discourage this in their EULA, or nobody would buy the software. There is a trial version on Recosoft's website, so you might be able to do it yourself.

My guess is that you have an object style applied to the frame with the black stroke in the first document, and the definition of an object style with the same name in the second document has a white stroke. If you go to the second document and go to Window>Styles>Object Styles and pull up the Object Styles window, you can use the fly-out and go to Load Object Styles, navigate to the first document and load the particular object style from the first doc to the second. Now if you transfer the object, it will retain the aspects of the object style as defined in (now) both docs. Also, check that you aren't copying objects from different layers and pasting into a single layer. That could be why the red banner isn't showing in the second screen shot (possibly because it's behind something in the stack of a single layer.

Regarding text flow with master-page text frames, it sounds counterintuitive, but even though the right-side page is the first document page, you should link the out port of the left-master-page text frame to the right-master-page text frame to get them to flow through master frames on the document pages. paulc90013077 wrote However, I discovered a way that seems to meet my needs. And if your text source can't make that, you can use a keystroke that you don't use anywhere else in the document (like ∞ or §) and use Find/Change to swap it with a frame break.

How is your text set up? If you have no more text than can fit onto two pages per handout, you can place a single text file without needing to use master text frames. If the end of one handout's text ends with a Next Frame character, any space remaining in the second page of any handout will be blank, and the first text of the next handout will start on the next available page, which will be the next right page. Place your text on the first document page. Before you click on the page, you will see the cursor turn to a loaded cursor with a black arrow. When you position the cursor near the top left corner of the margin guides, the black arrow will turn white, indicating that the text frame it creates will stick to the margin guides. If you hold the Shift key before you click that top left corner, your text will auto-flow and create new pages as it goes.

You're really better off sending them a normal PDF and have them go to Kinko's or Office Depot and have it printed on a more powerful copy machine that can do the imposition for them. I suppose you could impose it manually, but you probably won't want to. Maybe you can find a script for the imposition, but your client will have to figure out how to send it through their printer. It may involve printing the odd pages, turning or tumbling the stack, feeding it back through to print the even pages, possibly in reverse order, and they will probably keep calling you to tell you it isn't working.

Open the chapter-3 document, and in the fly-out of the Pages window, select Numbering and Section Options. It should be set to Automatic Page Numbering (the top radio button option), but could be incorrectly set to Start Page Number At (the second radio button from the top), with 29 entered into the field to the right.

Another option, although not ideal is to turn on Smart Guides and snap a horizontal and vertical guide to the point, then you can snap the other point to the intersection of the two guides. After, you can delete the guides if they are in the way.

Not sure if this is a Bridge question or an InDesign question, but here goes. I'm using Bridge 8.0.1.282 and InDesign 13.1 on a fairly new iMac with OS 10.13.4. If I select 3 (1-2.5MB jpeg) of around 350 images in a folder from bridge and go to File>Place>InDesign, it takes around 12 seconds before the screen switches from seeing Bridge to when I can see InDesign and the place cursor is ready. When I used earlier versions of Bridge and ID, it took 1 or 2 seconds. I'm working over a network now, but it's the same network as before when it was fast. Does anyone who places from Bridge to InDesign on a regular basis have this kind of speed? What might I check to get better performance. I updated my InDesign preferences recently (for an unrelated issue), and that had no effect on this. Any thoughts?

I still have a copy of 5.5 on my High Sierra Mac, and it doesn't do what you describe. As a work-around, if you hold the Command key and click anywhere, you can tap the V key to get to the direct select tool (V is the shortcut). Hope that helps until you find a better answer.
