If you know how to install a font in the operating system that your computer uses (Mac OS, Windows, etc.), then install the fonts to the appropriate font folder and they will be available to you in InDesign. Another option is to install in the Fonts folder that is inside the InDesign application folder, but they will only be available to you when you are in InDesign (not, for example, if you are in Word, Photoshop, etc.). I'm not sure what the solution will be, but have you considered that what you have will, by it's nature, require a file size larger than you are willing to accept at this time? You should also consider what you need to do with this 4 MB PDF. Is it for viewing, printing or both? Last, is distilling EPS just one other thing you are trying, just so you can try everything possible? I ask because it's not a great workflow, and most people would advise against it. If the images came from Word, they are inline with the text. That means that they act similarly to a character in a font. If the paragraph that contains the image is aligned right, the image will be on the right. Similarly, you can center or left-align an image, but it really works best if the image is in it's own paragraph if that's how you want to work. If you want the image to be more adjustable, click on the image and go to Object>Anchored Object>Options and change Inline to Custom. There are several parameters to play with in this mode, so you might want to read up on it. Also, I found a Lynda video with a quick Google search about working with Word files in InDesign. Are you only getting the line once it's in an InDesign document? If not, it's an Illustrator issue, but I can give you a few things to think about. Is it just on the screen, or does it print with the red line? How is this layout constructed? Are the solid items InDesign shapes, and the illustrations placed from Illustrator? Have you checked that you don't have any strokes on any items? You can also place all 9 images at one time as you create the 9 image frames. Place as you usually do, but instead of selecting one image to place, select all 9. Click but don't release the mouse button, then tap the right arrow twice to make 3 columns, and tap the up arrow twice to make 3 rows. When the shape and size of the grid is to your liking, release the mouse button. The thing is, PDFs can be viewed by several programs, including Acrobat, Reader, Preview, and several others. Each can be set to view a PDF differently, and I'm not sure there is a way to ensure that everyone who opens a PDF will view it the way it was intended by the author. If it's just you, you could set your PDF reader to view the way you like. In Acrobat, it's done by going to View>Page Display>Two-Up Continuous, and View>Page Display>Show Cover Page During Two-Up. To add to what Scott has said, the last paragraph you want on the previous page ends with a paragraph return. Let's say we want the second page to start with number 7. If you place the cursor at the end of paragraph 6 and insert a page break, the paragraph return will go along to the next page, and that's what gives you the extra blank number 7 on the second page. If you place the cursor at the beginning of paragraph 7 and insert the page break, the paragraph return at the end of paragraph 6 will give you the blank number 7 on the first page. In either case, you are using two paragraph breaks (a regular one, and a page break), and that's why you are getting an extra numbered line. Instead of just placing the cursor at the end of paragraph 6, double-click to select the paragraph return itself… and replace it with the page break. That way, you only have one type of break between those two paragraphs, and no extra numbered line. Could it be that there is a Type 1 font on her machine along with the OTF? I'd try packaging the file and see which fonts get collected. It could also be that there is some residual info in the file that could be cleared out with a save-as, or a trip through IDML. I'd try that first.
