Slow, slow, slow (III) !

LEGEND ,

The thread with this name that was closed with no explanation did serve a useful purpose, so I am opening a new one to replace it.

Speed is back to normal now, and if there was a shutdown, I wasn't here to witness it.

that doesn't rule out anything. that's just jumping to conclusions. sometimes stuff comes bad out of the box. sometimes it fails after a week. sometimes it lasts "forever". what does that prove about your situation? nothing.

you must know that. are you saying you never bought a "gadget" brought it home, plugged it in and found out it didn't work?

If I talk about it I am sure I will have it Happen. But So far everything I have ever bought always worked out of the box.

Now on down the line, is a different story. I've bought Zip and Jazz Drives That have worked great out of the box but after warranty was out failed.
It was always cheaper buy new than have repaired.

Even a cousin brought me a camera a month ago, he bought new couldn't figure out even how to turn it on, and put in a closet. Its an Old Panasonic 1.3 Mega-Pixel, that uses a 120mb Super drive to hold the pictures. It still works, takes great pictures. The Super Drive even works. I had an external SuperDrive by iMation and it went bad. would love to have another.

I've had and SE/30, a 7100/66, a G4-500, and a PowerBook 17" (1.67GB) all work out of the box. I've only had to replace the Super Drive CD-ROM/DVD-RAM drive in the G4. And that was my fault for damaging it.

As for the Adobe Forums. They are the only ones I have trouble out of.

pj,

Your Panasonic and SE30, et al, are irrelevant to what you're experiencing. Ask your ISP to do a line test so you can rule that out.

Pj,

How on Earth did you manage to damage a Superdrive in a G4?

To Neil what I was answering was the comment made just before my reply, "Haven't you ever got anything out of the box that didn't work."

I'll check with my ISP about the test.

To Ra'Mon:

I put in a CD off center, wasn't sitting flat down in the Tray and got it jammed when I got it out would accept a CD/DVD but would no long read the CD/DVD. Fortunate it happened just a month before my Applecare contract was up. Got it replaced free of Charge. I even told the dealer How I screwed it up. But he gotit replaced anyway.

pj,

If the line test is OK, at least you know that you're probably OK to as far as the demarcation jack. But any modem/router/switch, network, and/or firewall misconfiguration and/or bad cable or cable connections inside your home or office can also mess up signal transmission.

I replace Ethernet cables and phone cables as a matter of course ever few months whether, they appear to need them or not. when installed the used Cat% cable from phone box out side of the house to Wall Jack. Te Modem and Router?switch are orignals installed when system was installed.

Paradyne ReachDSL 6350 Modem
D-Link DL-704
(might be DI, the character after the D is just a straight line).
They had to set up the Router from some software they had.

Why? That makes NO logical sense whatsoever. None.

Got me scratching my head too.

Why in the world would you want to go through that trouble?

Do you rewire the entire electrical system while your at it?

PJ,

BTW, you should be using category 5e or 6 cables; not the old standard category 5 for your home network. (I assume that is what you meant by "Cat%".)

There is absolutely no reason to replace properly installed cables every few months unless you are damaging them. They don't wear out. If they are damaged, reroute them so they don't get damaged, or improve your work habits.

I bought high-quality cables for my LAN a few years ago, and they're still like new.

I find the crimp connections of the Plugs to the sometimes get loose. or the contact get dirty.

So why keep cords that could possibly cause problems. I've had cables to be the cause of problems.

Because of My Computer Desk in which the shelves are stacked. everything is not on one level so the connection in the the Plugs Droop. So they receive constant strain.

PS I also notice from the announcement above. perhaps they are getting ready to replace the "Hamster". ;-)

Maybe they have finally after a year figured out what is causing the system being so unreliable.

A static curvature won't hurt cables.

Repeated flexion will.

Bend a paperclip once. No harm done.

Bend it back & forth 150 times, and it'll break.

If you're concerned about the strain, look into some cable wrangling accessories designed to keep relieve strain and keep them in place.

It's a cheaper, smarter, better solution.

PJ,
>I find the crimp connections of the Plugs to the sometimes get loose. or the contact get dirty.

Buy better category 5e or 6 cables with molded ends and keep your work environment free of dust, dirt, and moisture. Maybe even cables with gold-plated contacts to keep corrosion down. And stop tugging/snagging on the cables. Use the shortest cables that comfortably reach from component A to component B.

All that said...let's see what happens with speed/connectivity after Forum maintenance tomorrow.

I can't even get into the system now with out doing a work around and signing in every time!

To say I am Pixxed is putting it mildly!

every time I get an announcement in email the link starts with

http://adobe-eq.webcrossing.com/

to get in I have to remove the -eq and hit link again then sign in for every massage.

I am not a Happy camper!

Same shXX I went through when they had the last fiasco. Turns out someone accidently miss typed a alias link.

Finally I think I am up and running now.

I'll have to wait until the morning and see if I have cleared up.

I went to Main Forum index page and noticed I wasn't logged in.

I clicked on Login and my email address showed but password space was empty. I supplied password and ticked remember me. then logged in.

Now when I clicked on announce message it showed adobeforums.com not that weird adobe-eq.webcrossing.com/ link.
when I clicked on link this time I went straight to messages.

Evidently the cookie for the main sign in was hosed and had to be redone.

Well my blood pressure is back down 200 over a 100. Maybe it will get back to normal by morning.

Don't ask me to explain why I had to do this.
