What's it based on? As of this morning, I am above someone who has 100 more points than I do.
Is it just based on post count or is there some secret Adobe judge, reading everyone's posts?

From my observations it is based on the points you get in the specific forum you are looking at. You are ranked with others users' points they have earned in that forum.

Who knows? I'm allegedly top dog in the testing forum, of all places. Murray's second top in DW and he hasn't been seen for weeks. Pointless nonsense.

Cat herder is a much better description then lion tamer, 'lion' gives the felines in case way too much credit.
If you want to try subtle digs, please make sure you are actually subtle. And just to be safe, don't try it in somebody elses thread forcing me to take action there and polute it.

Are you really deleting posts speaking to the loss of former "top participants" in a post entitled "top participants" because they refer to heavy-handed mods?

You know there's nothing a heavy-handed mod hates more than being called heavy-handed!

Top participants and points are pointless. The present so called moderators haven't a clue. Oz, now that was a moderator. There, is that subtle enough for you? With all due respect, of course. I'd like to add that NOTHING about these forums has been improved over the old ones. They are simply worse now.

For me, as of this morning, there are no top participants showing any more in the FCA forum. I think it is based on # of posts & they are automatically counted by the software. I ***used*** to be one of the top participants in the Lounge, but no longer, since I don't post nearly as often.

And what is wrong with wishing back Neil, Ozpeter and Bob? Oz was the best host the lounge ever had by a mile.

It's hard for me to express just how much I agree with that! He was beyond wonderful!
I miss him!

Ozpeter has been showing up in the Premiere Elements forum with some regularity. I knew him from the Audition forum, but he's been doing some video work and has been posting in the PrE group.
I agree that his contributions are valued.

Weird; while I still do see them in the Lounge, I don't see them at all here! Guess I'll chalk it up to more o' that arbirtrary-seeming Jiveness!

I believe the Top participants are simply those with greatest recent posting activity in the forum in question, probably calculated in a rather simple way.
I post more or less regularly in the following forums:
Illustrator, http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_general?view=discussions&start=0
Typography, http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/typography?view=discussions&start=0
Print Design, http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/printdesign
GoLive, http://forums.adobe.com/community/golive/golive_general_discussion
Web design, http://forums.adobe.com/community/design_development/webdesign
I have seen the list rankings change rapidly, especially in the forums with fewer posts, and there seems to be no connexion between list ranking and points; and the lists correspond well to my impression of recent posting activity.

I've occasionally seen a "No top participants" (not enough data to calculate) message, or something to that effect, in the Lounge Basement, so I am inclined to agree.

And if you're going to respond to 'subtle digs' - how about not deleting the post, so we can see what you're talking about?

Message was removed by: Kami Bambiraptor because....
I felt like it. Why waste my energy on this matter?

But, incidentally, I still do not see the "Top Participants" on this page, even though I am now at home and using Firefox instead of IE.
And I still DO see the top participants in the Lounge!

The configuration of which widgets to show is specific to each forum. Apparently Top participants was removed here.

No it wasn't!
Just enter this forum via the discussions "breadcrumb" and you see it.
Enter via the Forum comments "breadcrumb" or the forum URL, and it's gone.
You just have to know how these things work.

Not only am I allegedly top dog in the Testing forum, someone who hasn't been around for a long time and is an even less likely contender - is 2nd! Again, chuck these extraneous features overboard, especially as many are patently unreliable. To the point of ludicrousness. Ludicrocity?

Does anybody want to argue in favour of keeping the Top participants widget in this forum and subforums?

Would it not be fairer to ask who is in favour if keeping them AND who is NOT of doing so?
Why not start a thread where we can vote on the Top Participants and another on the Points question? Majority wins and it's settled.

Because I am unwilling to spend the effort before somebody has made some argument in favour.

OK. That sounds reasonable.
Thanks.
