Hello, could someone please recommend a good font suitable for use on a business card for a Architect...and why (if you know a good reason too)? Sorry if this should be posted on another category. Many thanks! Adam
Anybody can suggest a Utility to print Font Samples. In the OS 9 days, we used Font Gander Pro, but they didn't go OS X. I want to be able to load hundreds of font (without activating them, if possible) and print a font book sample. That's how Font Gander Pro was doing it. They also had templates to choose from.
I have used Kozuka Gothic Pro in InDesign CS3, Word(2007), and Photoshop CS3. When the apostrophe appears in all but Photoshop there is an unsightly white gap after the apostrophe. It works fine in Photoshop. Any ideas why this happens? I am using all of these programs on a Thinkpad running Vista.
Hello, I have created a custom font containing glyphs identical to the LCD display of a machine, that is every character consists of a number of squares. Now the customer wants that font inverted, so all the invisible "off" pixels of each character should be on and vice versa. This cannot be done using traditional character styles. My question: Is there a naming convention for such a variant? Thanks, - Michael
Hi, I'm aware that Adobe's "Pro" designation means that the font contains all the necessary glyphs to set European languages. But that's not what I'm asking. We have a client for whom we're preparing a book. We've been using Tekton Pro (Bold and Regular). We sent a PDF proof to the client and they say that they meant the old Tekton (not Pro--rather, the postscript version). I've tried to compare the two, but it's very difficult online. My question is: is there a difference in the actual form of the letters between the old Tekton and Tekton Pro? (In the case of Garamond and Garamond Premier Pro there is a significant difference between the shapes of some letters, for example.) Thanks, Ariel
Miguel Sousa made a fantastic work with Calouste. But the typeface was not released and he is now working for Adobe. Does anybody knows if the release of a Calouste family would be made under Adobe's flag?
Utopia is a wonderful typeface, as Slimbach's use to be. But there is just a standard version so far. And this version does not have true small caps included in their italic versions. The texts I primarily work with are law-related, with dozens of accronymous, many numbers related to laws, dates and sections. So, true small caps are mandatory. Oldstyle numeration and case-related punctuation are also desirable. I really cannot understand why a family is made with SC just on non-italic versions. Does anybody would suggest a similar typeface with a complete set of small caps? I made a research and found some near what I'm looking for: FF Meta Serif, OurType Fresco Serif, Type-Together Karmina. Scala Pro and Proforma are also interesting. Anyway, I'd prefer to purchase an Utopia Pro... if there were one! No other contemporary typeface has a so clear, regular color as Utopia. Besides this, I'd like to see an improved kerning in a future Utopia Pro. Some pairs (like BA, DI, AC, AÇ, 11 a
Hello all, I am designing an invitation and I need to find a traditional script font that will work with a name with a suffix - like John Smith III. The III at the end looks terrible with a script I. (I had wanted to use Edwardian Script.) I know swashes and alternates can solve the problem, but I've had to look at each font in InDesign to see if alternates are available and I can't find a way to look for that on the major font sites. I'm on a PC with CS3. Any suggestions? Thanks
Just wondering if there is a standard to use for sub-bullets in professionally designed documents (such as brochures). Hollow bullets are standard for non-pro documents, such as reports, but I have never seen them used in pro pieces designed for public. Usually I try to rework the text to avoid sub-bullets altogether, or do not put anything in front of them, but have a case now where it looks unavoidable. Anyone have any insight into this?
This is a very straightforward question. Can anyone tell me what the "Sm" in "SmText" for Arno Pro means, please? Thanks!
iTunes uses this font as a header graphic. I've looked everywhere to try to identify it. Here are 2 graphic they use on the iTunes site, which are both of the font I'm looking to identify: http://www.bfactorgroup.com/font/artist-essentials.jpg http://www.bfactorgroup.com/font/genres-and-history.jpg Hopefully you can help me out!
We have loaded several OpenType fonts under Windows XP, but only a few actually appear in font menus in applications. For example, we have 27 faces for Univers Condensed installed, but only 11 show up in application menus. My assumption was that there was no difference between Mac and PC. The fonts all show up fine under Mac. Thanks.
http://www.mimoymima.com/files/fonts/id/name-that-font.jpg It's from an old medicine cabinet, so it might not even be a font, maybe it was hand cut back in the day? Anyway I'm having a hard time finding something I can replace it with that keeps true to the feeling of this font, so if anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them (or better yet if you know what it is just let me know and I'll track it down) thanks brent [link deleted]
Hello, We are planning to convert a bunch of legacy fonts to OTF (CFF) font format, but we are running into compatibility problems between various CFF consumers. You can get a sample font from the following link: http://www.pdftron.com/pub/otf/ fnt_0.otf and http://www.pdftron.com/pub/otf/fnt_0.ttx for ttx output. It seems that FDK tools dont complain about the font, however when I try to open using MS .NET 3.5 API an exception is thrown indicating a bad font format (the font seem to open fine in MS Font Viewer though?). Now I can see that the error is generated in Adobes CFF rasterizer, so I thought that this is the best place to ask the question. I also used MS Font Validator for testing, but unfortunately this software does not check CFF table. Thanks, Ian N.
I write on behalf of a colleague from my former office. For a long time they have had font issues. They run mainly InDesign CS2 on Windows 2000 and XP machines. For the majority of our print communication pieces, we use Goudy and Futura. Each of us has those fonts installed on our PCs; however, many times we will open a brochure and it will say Goudy and Futura is missing. We have to manually replace Goudy w/ Goudy and Futura w/ Futura, which is both frustrating and time-consuming. In addition, when someone uses a new font, it's only available locally. So, if that person is out of the office, we can't use that document. We'd like to have a central repository for all the fonts so we can all access the same fonts. We were told that Suitcase Server from Extensis would solve this problem. Does anyone have experience with this product, and would it work? Thanks, Ben
Hello, We are a non-profitable organization propagating Sanskrit. We would like to add some diacritical marks as a pronunciation guide. Do we need to take permission to add these diacritical marks in your fonts? If so, whom do we contact? Warm regards.
Please look at the blog headlines on this page and tell me, are they using embedded fonts? What font is this? Link: www.deliciousdays.com The headlines look so clean... I would also like to know any disadvantages to using their method. Thanks!
Hello, Does anyone know of an affordable font converter program? I work for a PC based company but at times we have freelance work come in from MAC users. Please let me know, thanks!
Hello, all: I started a new job within the last three months, AND WE DON"T USE FONT MANAGEMENT! I know that sounds crazy, but I am not yet in the position to request we get a font management program for all our work stations. Anywho, I am looking for a small freeware or shareware utility that to help me view the list of screen fonts that are inside a font suitcase. You know: like back in the days before Mac OSX and you could double-click on a suitcase to see what screen fonts were inside and you could move them out or in if so desired. Anyone know of such a beast?
Hello all: I work in InDesign primarily from a Windows based PC. I occasionally do some work on a Mac as well. I have a mixture of font type I use (TTF, OpenType etc) on my PC. I know a lot of font types are not compatible between PC and Mac. My questions is, are OpenType fonts compatible with Mac? What suggestions would you give to people working on two platforms as to how to best manage their font library (short of buying two versions of the same fonts)? Thanks.
I recently was asked to do some research in purchasing a Mac since we plan on doing more of our design work in house. One of my manager's concerns is that our designers currently use Mac when designing anything for our website. I currently have CS2 installed (will upgrade to CS3 soon), and it does not contain the Gill Sans Light Font, which is the main font our designers use. My question is, if I purchase this font from Adobe, is there any difference at all between the fonts if I were to alter some of the words on Illustrator or any other application on my PC as opposed to if our designers did it on a Mac? So basically I'm asking if I purchase and use the same Gil Sans Light font on my PC to alter something would it be exactly the same as if they did it on their Mac? I just think it may not be practical to purchase a Mac for this sort of reasoning if purchasing the font and just upgrading the software would yield the same results. Thank you. -Adam
I wanted to ask anyone and everyone with any of the following Font Folio's Font Folio 9 Font FOlio 10 OpenType Edition Font Folio 11 Does the font called 'Symbol' in its 'Type 1' form come with its .PFM file ('SY______.PFM') on the above Font Folio's. Usually Type 1 fonts on the above Font Folios come with .AFM, .INF, .PFB, PFM. files. When answering can you also state the Font Folio version(s) that you answer is from.
I have had to reformat my h/d and now have issues with fonts. I see that I have several different versions of Minion and Myriad installed on my PC, when viewing through both the windows font manager and ATM, yet these same versions are not availble to me when I am in Pagemaker or Word. I suspect it has to do with Multiple Masters but I am unsure how to fix the problem. Any ideas?
I am having troubles trying to access this font in all of my embroidery softwares. The font is installed correctly, it appears in all the MS Office apps, but it will not appear in my drop down box font selections in ANY of my embroidery softwares which allow me to digitize TT and OT fonts. I looked in the Properties at this font, and in the Details screen, under "Font Embeddibility" is says, "Preview/Print" and not "Editible" like all my other OT fonts do. I purchased this font through MyFonts.com, and it is a registered Adobe font. Help! Is there any way to gain this access level so I can use the font to digitize a company logo?? This was the whole reason I bought the font in the first place! Patty Sliney
