Video Hardware

I've been editing videos (for Youtube channels) in Premiere Pro CC 2015 on my iMac 5k (base i5 model with a shockingly weak GPU) for over 2 years now. It suffices to say that Premiere's performance on a Mac is pretty disappointing if compared to Final Cut Pro X. My iMac can barely handle 1080p footage in 60fps in Premiere.  So I've been meaning to switch to Windows and build my own video editing machine. iMac Pro is not an option as even the base model starts at a hefty $6100 price in India. I am planning to go with an i7 8700 with MSI GTX 1080 Armor X Edition with at least 32GB of RAM and a Dell Ultrasharp 34 curved monitor. What I want to know is how good will Premiere Pro perform on the aforementioned configuration. I am planning to keep the new system intact for at least next 5 years and will mostly be editing 4k footage for Youtube channels and individual clients. Should I opt for even better hardware or will this one suffice?[Moderator note: moved to best forum.]

Hi, I have recently purchased a laptop with 128TB  SSD (nvme) + 1TB HDD, 8th gen i7, 16GB RAMI plan to install the following software:PhotoshopLightroom (main use)Premiere pro (main use)Cubase AIAntivirusMS OfficeBy taking into consideration of size of the SSD, i would like to ask what will be the best setup which the system will work more efficiently. Q1: where (SSD/HDD) should I install each of the above-mentioned software.Q2: suggestion for the stor of the following data, should it be in SSD or in HDD? - lightroom catelog, preview file, source photo/video, windows index, etcQ3: which drive should use as scratch drive?Q4: are there any other setup for the new laptop to  which can improve performance?Million thanks  

Hello!I am trying to find out if I can edit and export 10 bit footage 4:2:2 from a timeline in Premiere Pro, but with a Rig equipment with a GTX 1070 GPU ?My idea is to have the EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5  for editing and a Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K for previewing the footage while doing color grading.I know that with a GeForce GTX  gpu can´t display 10 bit colors in Premiere because Premiere uses OpenGL and GeForce GTX can only do it via DirectX and the display port. But can I render the final video at 10 bit if I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 1070?Will this setup work (GTX 1070 +  Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K for previewing the footage while doing color grading.) and is it a wise decision, taking into consideration the high price of a decent Quadro GPU ?Thank you in advance.

Hello everybody:I'm a Creative Cloud Photography Plan user and I'm about buy a new pc because my current one is showing its age. I'm almost determined to buy one of the latest Intel NUCs with the AMD Radeon RX Vega M. I'm not a gamer and I don't plan to game with it (too old for that). Beside the Adobe apps I woukd like to do some light video editing with footage taken with my cameras: Nikon D750 and Olympus TG-5. I won't use Premier but something lighter (and  cheaper).My doubt is if I should get the less powerful one, the NUC8i7HNK with Vega M GL, because the most powerful NUC8i7HVK is only worthwhile for gamers and will bring negigible benefits for Lightroom, Photoshop and the video editing I plan to do.Thank you for your help 

I'm thinking of getting an NVMe PCIe X2 drive for my scratch. In particular (this MyDigitalSSD 256GB)[https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077GZ7449/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?tag=slicinc-20&ascsubtag=a84b54f06d2e11e8834ceef2e093f6790INT&smid=A3ISMVC1FTQD6C&psc=1#customerReviews] looks pretty tempting. It's got great sequential, but the 4k read/write (37/180) doesn't look that impressive compared to my 850 Evo (38/150). I'm guessing as a scratch, we're not really writing large chunks at a time so 4k would be more important? So there really is no advantage to go the route of this SBX vs my old SATA EVO? Some youtubers out there recommending NVMe for scratch saying it gives great performance boost are probably talking about something like the 960 pro is that right?

I hope it worked out for you! I currently have a Dell T7600 as well. It's running well with Dual Xeon E5-2667 and 64GB of RAM. Along with a Samsung Evo 850 256GB SSD for OS and programs and other mechanical hdds for storage.I was wondering about my RAID controller as well. Windows 10 doesn't see my 850 EVO as an SSD, which I thought might be a bit of a problem.....:(. For whatever reason, it can't see past the RAID controller to recognize it as an SSD, and also Crystal Disk Info can't see it either. Meh, I suppose it's a minor concern, but it is still annoying.Anyway, my RAID controller does let me run the drives in Non-RAID, thank the LORD! I didn't know about that issue before hand though, so I could have ended up like you!

Hello...looking for a shared storage recommendation.  We run 4 edit suites (Mac Pro, iMac Pro, 2 iMacs) all running Adobe CC.  We shoot almost exclusively 4k res.  We've been editing off external drives that are backed up nightly to a NAS.   The goal would be for all editors to access all media on the storage device and edit on the same project at the same time. hi all,I’ve been going back or forth on whether to buy this AIO desktop or to do custom built for video editing. I’m pretty new at this so custom built seems a bit daunting and i wouldn’t know exactly what to get. Can someone chime in if the HP Envy would be adequate for Adobe Premier? I’ve been offered an iMac 2011 27” base model it looks like for free. Runs El Capitan right now, 4gb ram, i5, etc. I need to run CC 2018 apps since I’m a graphic design student. My plan was to upgrade memory to 16 or 32 g (I understand this is the true max). With the new Mojave OSX coming this fall, high Sierra is the last OS this 2011 iMac will run, is it worth me sinking any money into upgrading ram? Will the CC apps runs on it with high Sierra now? I’d like to get 2-3 years out of this running Adobe apps, but not sure it’s possible.Of course, I know it’s be best to shell out the $ for a new iMac so I know adobe apps works. But...Is it Worthwhile to put a bit of money into upgrading ram to make 2011 iMac work better or would it be a waste and it’s simply a glorified display now? Any advice is appreciated.

Since my the playback of the clips has been very slow, I experimented with a few different scenarios... but still can't figure out what is the best way to maximize performance. Currently I'm working with two internal drives (Intel NVMe 960 Evo M.2 SSD and a 7200rpm HDD).Have my OS and PP installed on the SSD. Experimented with having all the cache on SSD vs the HDD... couldn't really see a difference. Having the actual clips on an external HDD was the slowest. However, yesterday I had an external SSD plugged in and had the project files and the footage on there and everything was WAY faster. Why is this ?The internal m.2 is faster than the external one over USB3. I am getting a new Macbook soon, with an internal SSD and an external SSD. What would be the best setup in this case ?

Hi all CPUI am currently running the hex core Intel I7 5930 extreme CPU and I was wondering if it's worth going a higher. My PC is two years old and I'm looking at adding some extra bits and pieces. I always looking at at the 5960 8 core which I can accommodate on my current motherboard.Any advice would be welcomeThanks

Hello everyone, so I wanted to upgrade my older late 2012 iMac as my backup computer for video editing. I was just curious to the performance aspects of an external ssd vs internal ssd(specifically Crucial MX500 1TB SATA 2.5-inch 7mm Internal SSD vs Samsung T5 1TB external SSD). As far as the read and write speeds they are pretty similar. As far as the connection, I'm not sure how that may impact the performance(usb 3 vs thunderbolt vs sata). I don't care about any other aspect of the drives except performance! Which one will perform better/faster for video editing in Premiere Pro? Thank you in advance, please help!

Anyone have an words of wisdom?. Price difference of $800 AUD argh!My last gtx 970 4gb was hopeless with premiere, the gtx 1080 has been a lot more stable (Which i put down to the amount of memory, rather than anything else).Will the 1050ti be usable, is it stable (I do lots of lumetri effects)?

Currently attempting to test the differences in performance between my main rendering rig, and a new rig I've built as a test bench to see how much better PP works on an Intel platform.  I work in a retail computer shop, so I have access to additional components, and all items were tested for stability before the test bench was put together.Main rig:AMD 1800XMSI x370 Gaming Pro Carbon32GB Corsair LPX 3200MhzMSI GTX 1070 Gaming XSamsung 960 Evo 500GB M.2 (primary)Samsung 950 Evo 250GB Sata SSD x 2This rig has consistently given weird performance problems, and refuses to play back anything 4K smoothly unless my playback is run at 1/8.  I've done the proxy thing, would really rather not have to do it ever, but I understand why it's there.  Just seems weird that this machine *cannot* play back even 1/4 res without dropping chunks of video during playback.  Easily 10-20 frames dropped at a time while viewing 4K .MOV files from a Panasonic GH4.Anyway, typical project file

Hi ThereAsking a question for a friend who is trying to update/reconfigure an old editing system.  I'll be using it so he's asked for my advice - and here I am asking for the forums.He wants to run Premiere Pro - and Creative Suite, mainly AE, Photoshop - on a PC. It needs to be able to play and edit 4K. He's got an old HP Z400, and it looks like it's cheaper to replace the motherboard, graphics card, RAM, than to buy a whole new 4K compatible PC.Neither of us are massively technical, but in theory this should work, right? I'm assuming we could get PCI cards for USB 3 and perhaps Thunderbolt compatibility. But would there be any potential obstacles to putting a new, powerful motherboard and graphics card in an old crate?If you need any more detail please ask, and thanks in advance for any advice anyone can give.ThanksJack

I've recently started to edit in 4k. The problem is that playback is lagging and it just doesnt feel smoth to edit 4k. Especially when I add effects, lumetri color etc. Some effects dont even render when I make transitions. I dont want to use proxies or anything like that. I'd just like to know what I need to upgrade to ensure smooth editing of 4k video. Hello,I'm a graphic designer who has just convinced my boss to buy me a new work-computer. But I don't really know what to get for it (I'll be putting it together myself). I asked a computershop, and they gave my this recommendation:I'll first and formost be using it for Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator. BUT I'll soon be working with video also, so it really need to be able to handle Premiere and After Effects. (I did some videoediting last year, and my current work-computer could NOT handle the workload at all!) It'll be running from an SSD, and files will be stored on the hhd (the second hhd is for internal backup). Is the grahic card up to speed? Anything I should change? More RAM? I find myself spending a lot of time away from home and from my desktop where I do all of my video editing. I would like to purchase a laptop that will be able to edit 1080p footage smoothly.I have already been through the system requirements and through many forum threads, however the system requirements just has a huge list of video cards without any indication of how premiere will run on each of them (not that I expect them to do that) and the forum threads are usually about a specific computer/laptop they have in mind.My question is a little different, I want to know the slowest CPU and slowest GPU that will let me edit 1080p footage smoothly. my use of premiere doesn't include the more complex effects, just cutting footage together, placing transitions, text etc.CPU: Could an i3-4000U series processor edit 1080p smoothly? What about a Celeron N2957U (I know that's probably pushing the far limits of even opening Premiere but I thought I would ask in case I was wrong)?GPU: The list

hi guys,unfortunately my graphic card Nvidia Geforce gtx 780 3gb broke and I need to buy a new one. I don't want to spend more than about 300 euro. I did some research and found gtx 1060 6gb. I'm not an expert and don't understand all of the specs... If I understood it correctly, I should have slightly faster performance than my old 780. The only thing I found strange is that 780 has more Cuda, than 1060. How important is that?Did someone compared 780 and 1060 or upgraded from one to another?I would appreciate your help a lot!I mostly work with HD and 4K footage in Premiere.
