I have had this many times over the years. You have to manually delete all adobe caches and restart your machine. purging cache through the app or preferences does not fully clear the cache. I suspect it is something to do woth a bad block on SSD. I call them cache ghosts, and the do soemtimes render. But often they are simply stuck in a previous version of the frame so you can't tell what you are actually working on now. I think this is a WORKSPACE issue. I think if you have changed workspaces. or the file had a changed workspce, AE is going set workspace to Default, oh er .. which default .. er.. ZZZZZZZZZZZ. Changing permissions on workspace prefs isn't helping. If I just open files with appleO so the workspace isn't trying to change, it doesn't crash.  I am also on an unsupported external screen and adobe isn't very good at UI scaling because they have only had ten years to work on it.  Quicktime player crashes the whole system and I suspect it is a resolution communication issue as well... Good reminder from Rick about nesting any referenced comps in the main comp, and collecting from selected comp maybe is different to Queued comps.  Discovered today that DeClutter,   That's DECLUTTER   (the script every single after effects user should be forced to use on every single project before going home)   will sort any comps with footage referenced by the Essential Properties Media Confuser into the Main Comps folder to remind you to collect them as well. DON"T FORGET ESSENTIAL GRAPHICS!!!!! I see that also not collecting properly are sourcefiles loaded in by essential graphics. This leads to major major major problems! I don't think many people realise this is a thing, and I can only assume the team haven't realised how bad it really is. How can I bump this up the priority list? At the very least a warning when collecting files that anything linked to by expressions and esssential properties will not be collected. Because otherwise people think they are archiving a working project when they are not. I just collected a project and opened it to make sure it worked, but the essential properties references files, while they are in the project, have not been duplicated into the collect footage folder. NO (due to client confidentiality with filenames). I think it is large sized AVC .movs, assume camera footage, assume it has come from a mac. I get an error message on every video file but they play and render fine. if h264 files are not working you may have to render all this footage to Pro res instead. Resolve is not Adobe software. Neither is Google but both are your friends. Adobe and Apple will not support machines over 5 years old let alone 9. Can I recommend selling your machine every year and egtting a new one (refurbished from Apple) or get a real computer instead. A lot incorrect in this answer Neil. Resolve has an in-built software renderer, (but you need the Studio version to use it.)It can then decode Atmos and play it back through your specified configuration of bed and height speakers. An Atmos Bed does sometimes have Height channels, bubt usually you height speakers that will play back objects that move into the 3d space tghey are outputting. You don't need a LOT of hardware to play back the decoded content; a 16 channels soundcard, or de-embed from the SDI of a Decklink.  But a lot of confusion exists about this and consumer atmos, which is object based metadata to extract a limited number of 3d objects from the standard 8 channels bed in the HDMI stream. You need a software decoder, or correct bitstream output to an Atmos docoder in an AV amp for that. Still don't hink you can do that at all on a mac, but I may be wrong, it might just work on an M2 laptop, but I think they disable it ... View more

It's a bit complicated in that you have to turn off hardware acceleration in both preview AND import and then restart after effects. Not sure how you are managing to even use Nvidia on a Mac these days but you have to select studio in the options when searching for drivers. Always install via Custom and clean install every time. You need to update os  drivers and adobe apps all at the same time often. But really just don't even try using h264 in after effects after 2014.  ... View more
