I'm going to have to disagree It is NOT expected behavior. But the ESC key works..   It seems, at a glance, once the ESC key is tapped, it never happens again for any existing objects. It will happen again, on newly drawn obects, if a swatch is dragged to the gradient panel - and it will remain until ESC is tapped. Then it stops happening for all existing gradient filled objects.    Scratch all that.. i   It's utterly inconsistent. Happens, doesn't happen.. never know which it'll be. ESC does show the entire appearance when it happens, but clicking around, you never know if the Appearance Panel will show a single color stop, or the object's entire appearance.   I drew 3 gradient filled shapes.. I can click between them, deslect all, switch tools, then click between them again using Command for Selection but keeping the Gradient Tool active in the Toolbar.. one may show the color stop and the other two show the entire appearance. It's compeltely unpredictable - and due to that, I can't imagine why Adobe feels it's "expected" and usable by users. If it's meant to be a useful "feature" it, at the very least, needs to be predictable. I can always accept that new feaures may not be something useful to me. But they shoudln't be getting in the way of standard workflows. I see no logic, usability, or benefit to this random truncated "color stop" Appearance Panel.   (see gif) Detailed explation for the gif.. - I drew a cricle - filled it with the default black/white gradient - dragged a (random) purple color to the replace the black color stop in the Gradient Panel. - Then drew the rectangle (purple gradient Appearance carried over). - Both these objects showed only the color stop in the Appearance panel when clicking between them. - Tapped ESC. - Both objects then showed the entire appearance when selected and the Gradient Tool was active (This is expected behavior). Then.. - I drew another rectangle - cleared appearance. - Filled it with the default black to white gradient again - dragged a (random) brown swatch to replace the black color stop in the Gradient Panel - Initially it too showed only the color stop in the Appearance panel. - Switched to the Selection tool - moved that type a bit - Free Transform Tool and randomly scaled the type - Switch back to Gradient Tool - Depressing Command to temporarily initiate the Selection tool and started clicking the shapes again... - .... you can see the GIF..... It makes no sense.   Sorry, you don't have to explain. But I just don't understand what's "expected" about it and how this is useful overall.  But okay. I do not know if this is specficially your issue...   What I've found is that function keys can conflict with the operating system causing Illustrator to see the F-key as being hit twice. There is no warning, no error, no indication that this is the issue. If you watch the action as it plays "step by step" you can often see the action recycle steps after you've hit the Fkey shortcut.   To test this... play the action using the Play button on the panel.. does that work correctly? If yes, then the issue is the Fkey and a conflict. Tracking down the conflict (across the operating system) may take some invistigation. ... View more

You'll also want to check the Settings/Preferences. Specifically "Appearance of Black" and set BOTH those drop downs to "Accurately" -- Especially the Output if you are working with CMYK files.   Why this is NOT the default setting utterly mystifies me.   SVG files are or RGB color... no such thing as 100K in RGB. ... For what it's worth... I have not seen this in Illustrator ever. Nor have I seen this related to any CC apps. But that is not discounting your experience. I beleive it happens.   However, I keep an old Mac around running CS6 apps and MacOS 10.14... guess what??? Photoshop CS6 "pops forward" at times on that older system. I beleive it's related to the OS or the app "auto-connecting" to a server somewhere (or trying to). When the connection fails, there's naturally a connection "error" athough it's not presented as an error to the user. The MacOS naturally brings "errors" forward and apps with errors always "pop forward".  The OS just isn't seeing the process, or the error, as "background" for whatever reason.   I don't use (refuse to use) the CC Libraries... and I wonder assuming that panel is part of a workspace, if a hiccup in the cloud connection to the libray is resulting in similar (silent) connection error... cauisng the "pop forward" behavior?   This is all PURELY speculation and guessing on my part. ... That is one layer. You have a bunch of paths all on the same layer.   Illustrator's Layers Panel is really a "Layers and Objects" panel. It's not like layers panels in other (raster) applications. The panel is showing you all the paths, but if you look at the top of the list, there's Layer 1 (the only layer). Objects are the core of vector applications. You can't "merge" the objects like you can merge Layers in Photoshop/Lightroom/Procreate/etc.    This may help explain further: https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/layers.html   You can Group the paths so they behave as a single object (select them and then choose Object > Group).  I personally prefer one large screen than jumping screens and patching OS issues related to dual screens. No idea what you are referring to. It's litterally, plug and play then 30 soceonds to arrange positions in system settings. You changed the response above...    A 2560x1440 display is a low pixel density montor (around 80-90ppi). You will always see pixels on curves and angles until the monitor is improved. This is more noticable if you also use a high pixel density montior (4k/5k/retina - around 180ppi) on some other system and tend to move back and forth - one monitor has edges which look sharp and clean, the other pixelated to a degree. A monitor can only display "smoothness" related to the amount of pixels it uses (pixel denisty). Its a hardware limitation and has nothing to do with any specific software. ... View more

I mean, the chip is better, I'm sure everything will be faster on an M4 chip (if amont of RAM is equal). Will it be enough to really matter? I doubt it for Illustrator. For video editing and 3D rendering, it may make a big difference.   My basic Mac purchase theory has always been, unless there are damages or costly hardware failures, keep a Mac until Apple drops support for it with a new OS. Honestly, I'd drive an M1 untill the MacOS can no longer be updated on it. Any hardware updates will be marginal overall, until Apple states they will no longer support the hardware with their OS.
