On my iMac 27" I do not have Preview size to auto see the screen capture.
I find that adequate for general use if you need to compare in Library Module you can generate 1: previews. In develop Module the raw file will be used to render the image.

You will have to find a way to clear disk space on your E: Disk. See if there is stuff in your trash bin, LrC Backup files and sundry image files an other document files.

@hyphos , You indicate in your post "1 TB SSD with over 100 GB free".
This is what's responsible for the slow performance of your computer. It is recommended to maintain at least 20 to 25% of free disk space on your computer.
You presently nearly 10% available, your Operating System requires that for file swapping and the like.

@ulvogravn , your screen capture shows you have selected a folder called PHONE NARRATIVE and LrC does not recognize any image files in that folder to import. Try clicking on triangle to the left and see if there are any subfolders that may contain images.
Inaddition in the right side of the import dialog you have selected "Do not import selected duplicate images". If you already imported the images that will create problems trying to reimport from a different location.
Provide additional information.

@KJvO ,
There was an earlier post by @JohanElzenga regarding the "Update AI Settings' Icon. I believe that is the issue you should see. E.g if you use the Denoise AI on an image and then use another AI function like Generative Remove you should get a warning to Update the AI Settings,. That is the expected behavior.

I have been revisiting previously imported RAW images that have been edited and created DNG Denoised images. I have been deleting the DNG and using the Auto Sync process to apply Denoise to a batch if the Raw images.
I there a recommended procedure carry out this function. Presently I am just applying the Denoise with the previous edits in place.

I did a further test with Denoise a batch of nine raw images using Auto sync and the approximate time per file was 53.3 seconds. So it's definitely not as much as 2 min.

@mclynn , how are you making the comparison, memory recall of what you see on your camera to what you see on your Computer Monitor?
Or are you using the raw conversion software provided by your Camera manufacturer? I your Computer monitor profiled with physical profiler?

I have followed this thread with interest and have done some individual tests using the Auto Sync on while applying to a batch of images. What I observe is the AI Denoise process is that the Denoise is done to each image individually and it is not just applying the same edits as done to the first image. The individual data is stored in the support data file alongside the Catalog file. I do not use the option to Automatically write Metadata to XMP, as this will slow the process and utilize additional storage. This process is obviously a complicated process and takes some time to complete.
My experience is it takes approximately 2 min for each raw on my Windows computer to complete the process. One positive thing is the edits are stored in the data files and Catalog and I can delete the earlier Denoise DNG and Tiff files generated in earlier versions.
I am looking forward for improvements going forward.
Just my 2 cents.
The other option to check is to use Adobe Camera Raw to do the Denoise and import the file created to LrC.
I am using LrC 14.4.

@Ortwin284191255cpu , when you are working in LrC the application is reading and writing to the Catalog file. The Catalog file by default is located on your computer in a hard drive sub-folder called, Lightroom at the location, Users/your user name/documents/pictures ( mypictures on Win)/lightroom. If this subfolder is included in your pCloud backup service it will be activated every time you make a change in LrC.
In addition if you have the feature "Automatically write metadata to XMP" activated this will complicate the issue because there will changes to the XMP sidecars or to the file headers of DNG, Tiff, JPEG.

@ouiouiphoto , when you are using LrC the application is reading and writing to the Catalog file an other data files that reside in the same folder as the Catalog. So it's possible to use all the functions of LrC without the XMP sidecar files.
There is an option to automatically write XMP or you can do so manually, the XMPs are utilized by Adobe Camera Raw application or other third party applications.
Writing to XMP will slow the performance of LrC and utilize disk space to store data,

@robert36972564 , I work with LrC as an alternative to Bridge / ACR /PS and do not depend on XMP sidecar files. My work done in LrC is stored in the Catalog and other data files that reside alongside the Catalog.
If there is a need to do additional work in Photoshop I use the edit in function to send a tiff to PS..
I am away from my computer this week and will see how I make out on my Win laptop with LrC 14.4 next week. Lots of changes here to get familiar with.
