Images open heavily overexposed in Photoshop Beta 27.10 after update

Photoshop version: Photoshop Beta 27.10

OS: macOS Tahoe 26.5

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch Photoshop Beta 27.10.
  2. Open an existing TIFF file.
  3. The image appears heavily overexposed on open, despite the file displaying correctly in the regular release of Photoshop.

Expected result:
TIFF files should open with the correct exposure and match how they render in the regular version of Photoshop.

Actual result:
Some TIFF files open with a severely overexposed preview in Photoshop Beta. The image data itself is unchanged—only the rendering in Beta is incorrect.

Additional information:

  • The issue began immediately after updating to Photoshop Beta 27.10.
  • I've been working with the new Light Adjustment layer recently, so it's possible there's a connection, although I haven't been able to verify that.

Hi all, the update is on the way - in the meantime, the most correct fix in the current build is:

  1. Go to Preferences/Technology Previews
  2. ENABLE `Precise color management for HDR display`
  3. Restart Photoshop

The name of the setting sounds counterintuitive, but it should be ON at this time even when HDR display or images are not involved. This will allow you to keep GPU acceleration and get the correct color management of the document to display the same as before this bug showed up.

Thanks,

Dear Ana….,

Wow! How long did it take you to figure this out? It works for me too with PS Beta 27.10. I thought I  had a setting wrong that I could adjust in a few minutes. The only problem I’m still having is my Epson 8850 is overexposing the prints by about 0.5 to 1.0 stops. Hope there’s a quick fix for this, too.

Thanks so much!!

Best regards,

Steve

Dear Mr. CShubert. Thanks for the explanation.

A

Ana34954096ida0 found a fix before I came across your message. I hope you fix this weird glitch very soon! My biggest mistake was not consulting this forum first.

Regards,

Steve

I’m having the same problem. Checked all color profiles and monitor settings. Reverted to v27.8 and all good. Hope they fix it moving forward.

@Ana34954096ida0 try disabling this option in the preferences and restarting Photoshop to see if it helps
