Just like how you can "freeze" the rotobrush effect on a layer, I would love to expand the current cache system to allow us to Pre-Render/Cache a comp and "Freeze" or "Lock" it so that cache doesn't get deleted/purged the same as any other random cache files that are generated. I envision it looking like a button seen next to the "Enable Motion Blur for all layers in this comp" button. Pressing the button would offer up some options like processing the cache in the background, locking the comp so no one can change anything accidentally causing the cache to be purged, storage location of the cache (same place as all the other cache, different folder, contained with in the project file, etc. etc.), expiration options (cache expires after a certain date, or after the app is closed, etc.), resolution options (create the cache at different resolutions), multiple states toggle (add the ability to store/cache multiple versions of the comp that we could toggle through). The cur
In my situation, I work on many types of projects. Each of these use their own output path, and their specific output settings / codecs. For me, it would be a real time saver, when each project 'remembers' where I output, and which settings are used. Sor, I would like to have a way to couple a Render Setting / Output Module to a Project, and ideally even for each Comp, in a cascading / hierarchical way (if no Comp render setting is set - it will use the Project render setting).
This would be a toggle where you could effectively freeze the keyframes and allow you to move the layer as if it were a null to itself. I know I can select all the keyframes and set the current time to a frame where one keyframe is and them move my object and all the keyrames will adjust relatively. But this can be tedious, expesicall if the keyrame you want isn't on the current frame you're trying to adjust. And yes, I can create a Null, or precomp etc, but sometimes this is a hassle. Sometimes you might have dozens or hundreds of animated objects and it woudl be really handy and a time saver to toggle a switch or a key command to allow the reposition of a layer and move the keyframes regardless of what frame I'm on and without having to select keyframes. I can create a null attach, move and delete the null, it's just a lot of steps. Thanks for listening!
Needs to be very basic and simple — just plain old text: a simple panel you can have open to scratch down project related notes. Lots of apps provide this kinda facility. Two that do this really well are Logic Pro - has a text box you can note cue times, or lyrics, or notes you'll need to remember next time you open the project - and Blender, which has an arguably more complex (tho powerful) text note feature than we'd need in AE. Examples of the sort of things I need to record with a project:- frame numbers, especially if, say, a sequence has to be exported in chunks for some reason, or if I'm cuing to something outside AE;- quick ideas / thoughts / plans- explanation of "how this project works", for passing AE projects to other people, or creating re-usable projects- to do lists, esp if I know I'm going to have to stop working on something temporarily but will have to come back to it- reminders: "don't forget to turn off the guide audio tracks before exporting comp_19"
Illustrator's Transform Effect is sooooo easy to use. Just type in number of copies and scale, move, rotate, AND anchor points for the effects After Effects Add>Repeater and Transform can get "close" but nothing as easy, fast or powerful as in Illustrator's Effects>Distort&Transform>Transform I would LOVE to see this simplicity and beautiful and easy results in After Effects!!Thanks for your time,DavidB
How about a command that allows us to zoom the Timline to the exact in and out frames that the work area bar is set up to?Right now we can tap the ";" key to Zoom in to Frame Intervals – how about Alt+; to trigger Zoom To Work Area?
I would like to have a Switch in the Gaussian Blur effect, to make it scale independent. When I use footage at several scales, the blur is scaled along, but when compositing, sometimes it is nice to have the blur related to the composition, not the footage scale. This switch should call 'Scale independent blur size'. And when it is set to e.g. 2 px, this should mean that the blur is 2px of the composition, independent of the Layer's scale.
In many cases, I use Turbulent Noise to make composites less harsh, more natural. In these situations, I would like to be able to add Turbulent Noise to just the Alpha Channel. The effect would become tremendously more versatile, when checkboxes for affected channels would be included.
I actually expect the alignment system like Adobe Illustrator in After Effects. Especially key object alignment, which is really effective I think.
Pretty straightforward here.A lot of people render 3d passes and import these into afx for comp or motion work. Usually my passes have a ton of info in them, like the project file name, date etc. I do not need this info in the comp name that is created on the import of these passes. Therefore I suggest that we can have the ability to input a custom comp name on impor, rather than importing, having to find the comp and then rename it.Also, sometimes, being from the UK i work in 25fps, sometimes i work in 30fps. It would be also great to be able to override the default sequence import fps on the fly when you import.Lastly, the importer for sequences is still pretty dumb. Meaning that, if somebody renders a bunch of render passes that are not in a multipass file, it doesn't know to import them. The current workflow for exr with multipass is great, render all your passes into one file, and AFX splits them up and creates a comp, brilliant. If for whatever reason (some
Adobe Photoshop has been the go-to software for image editing for over thirty years. In early 2023, Adobe released the next big thing in image editing – Photoshop AI generative fill. Using Photoshop’s latest version, you can add or delete elements, extend the width or height of an image, and remove backgrounds, to name a few things. Now just imagine if the AI Generative Fill was put into After Effects too, how much better would the Program's Content-Aware Fill's workspace be?
Please add the ability to export/render out in a GIF format, with features like loop, 1 play, 2 play etc...
It would be so nice to not have to leave after effects to do 3D things.
It's utterly absurd that in 2023 After Effects STILL cannot add arrowheads to paths. This shouldn't even need to be a requested feature. It should be BASIC feature parity between Adobe apps. Absolutely shambolic. If ever Adobe staff find themselves wondering why users get so frustrated - aggressive, even - then I'll let them into a little secret. It's because of nonsense like this. You're actively making your users' jobs harder through indefensible ommisions. File this under stupid stuff AE should already have, like colour swatches, text/object styles, usable Libraries implementation, etc. etc.
Hi,First, let me explain the issue I'm facing:I often create very long compositions (like 10k frames) to make sure they can easily be reused anywhere without having to change their duration if they're too short. Problem is:If I don't set the work area to a shorter duration OR forget to deactivate "Cache frames when idle", Ae fills up all the system RAM. That's not a big issue if it's the active comp, because each change in the comp will empty the cache, but when switching to another comp, all this cache will be kept, and the system just becomes unusable. And then I'm angry because I have to go back to the longer comp to disable "Cache frames when idle", then empty the cache, then get back to work. And I don't like being angry 😉 A simple change would make be very happy: in the preferences, add an option to limit the duration of the cache when idle; for example, it would be nice to be able to set it to "cache around current time" AND no more than 1s before and 5s after,
Would be awesome to have global variables to use in expressions. Right now I accomplish this by creating a NULL layer and using sliders or other expression controls to attach a value to, but would be incredible to have more control to easily create variables or even functions that can be used repeatedly throughout the expressions.
It's unclear how to stop it. Why not add a simple stop button?
Please add Polish language to the After Effect application
Currently, MOGRTs are only usable in Premiere Pro. To use them in After Effects, they need to be individually converted to an After Effects project. I think it would be great to be able to drag-and-drop a .mogrt file into an open After Effects project, and the conversion would take place as part of the import process.
It would be so hugely helpful to have a few things updated in gradient system in After Effects. 1. Visible KnotsIn working extensively with gradients ported over from Figma, I am often struck by the lack of gradient knots in the comp ui of AE. The gradient pop up panel feels dated and disconnected compared to the Figma interface for manipulating gradients. Direct adjustment in the comp window would be so useful!2. New gradient toolA second request would be adding an additional gradient fill (Gradient Fill Expanded?) that allows one to surface individual gradient colors on the timeline. This could allow keyframing of individual colors and their position properties in the timeline and access via scripiting, and the possibility to add to the essential properties panel! All this would be a huge leap forward. I imagine this as an additional tool to the current one, as it is useful to have all the colors and knots contained in a single keyframe for most situtions.
When processing multiple clips and interpreting them to match the comp frame rate, I still have to do it one at a time. I should be able to highlight them all and select "Interpret Footage", right?
I use a lot of cloning and painting for VFX shots since the inclusion of the OCIO color management system but once of the things that drives me crazy is the need to start a new paint effect every time I want to "organize" strokes. Silhouette from BorisFX has an easy grouping system for their paint tools and I would love to see it inside After Effects native paint tools.
It would be great to have the following two features:1.Scene Edit Detection feature also working with Compositions not only video files. Most of the time, I edit a video in 16by9 in one main comp and then take the same edit and adjust it to 9by16 and 1by1 format. It's annoying that the Scene Edit detection feature doesn't work for compositions, so I need to apply my edits to the Pre-Comp again.2. Size Preview for h264 / mp4 exports directly in After Effects.Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder do have this feature that shows the estimated file size, which also changes when changing the bitrate parameter. It would be great to have this preview also in Adobe After Effects.
I'm suggesting the null object to have a size property. This will give us the flexibility to use the scale for actual scaling. Use case:I have four elements, and I would like to scale them equally two by two by 20%. I'm creating a null for the first pair and another null for the others. Now, I'm resizing the nulls to match the visual footprint of the elements. At this point, I'm unable to scale both pairs equally, because both nulls have completely different values for scale.
Adobe had just introduced importing 3D objects - and text layers are able to be converted to "3D Layers." But what seems to be missing (correct me if I'm wrong) is the ability to select a surface of a 3D object and apply a text layer to it. This would be a great feature inside AE - expecially if it is compatible with solutions like Dataclay Templater (which works with 3D Text layers if you apply it BEFORE converting the text layer to a 3D layer). This would make 3D mogrts with text variables possible as well.
