Sometimes I'm working on a photo and would just like to see it now full-screen. I've tried the slideshow, but it takes about 4 seconds for photo to appear - that's too long. So instead, I do this: - To Present: Shift-Tab, 'T', 'L', 'L', then move the cursor out of the way. - To Un-present: 'L', 'T', Shift-Tab, and move the cursor back. Its more convoluted than I'd like, and I could do without the thin white frame around it surrounded by the thick black frame. A single keystroke to 'present' - full-screen / no borders (my monitors themselves have sufficient borders), and kill the cursor, then another to return to editing would be perfect. PS - If Lightroom had full-screen editing for multi-monitor mode, this would be unnecessary, but in case Lr4 doesn't have that enhancement, this would be a worthy compromise. UPDATE: I just automated the keystroke sequences using auto-hotkey, which helps a lot, but still...

Lightroom should support png and psd files - Adobe's own file type creations - I find this inexcusable. Many of us serious photographers that have lived through all the permutations and advancement of Photoshop with tens of thousands of files only to find that they are not supported by the latest otherwise beautiful Catalog program: Lightshop

I was asked to post this commentary here having first posted it in Help for Slideshow; I think they didn't want to deal with me. But, here goes. The Slideshow module is probably the most important sharing component of your program for those of us choosing not to print and file photos. Yet, and in spite of its few "canned" graphics, it seems to lack many useful edit features; at least ones equal to the quality of pictures that Lr3 can help produce. 1. Though Lr3 allows movie clips to be imported, "slideshow" will not play them as part of a combined show. 2. Although a soundtrack can be added, adjusting play time is by means of a primitive slider. 3. Sountrack only allows one track to be imported. That's probably okay if one knows how to create a track somewhere else (Garage Band, et. al.) and import it for longer shows with subtle shifts in content or, if one is willing to put up with a loop that may not match the show in length. 4. Give us the option to consolidate/merge history steps. All the little adjustments with the crop tool (it's often impossible to reach the final crop in a single operation) could be flattened to a single step, all the little stacked basic adjustment tweaks (+5, -7, +3, yada, yada), all the individual brush strokes, etc. could be flattened to a single adjustment. This would make the history considerably cleaner and simpler - which makes much better use of the limited screen space (scrolling back down through presets and history is a pain).

Here's a proposal for making a small change to LrKeyword that could relieve pressure from users to improve LR's keywording functionality. MOTIVATION LR 3 and LR 4 have garnered a fair amount of user feedback about keywording issues. Some of the recurrent themes include: a user interface that makes it hard to rearrange large hiearchies, the inability to batch edit keyword attributes, changes in the export behavior of ancestor keywords between versions, lack of spelling correction. It's pretty clear that Adobe is limited in the resources its willing to devote to the library functionality of LR. Given that constraint, perhaps a more effective way of addressing users' needs is to make a small enhancement to the SDK, providing plugins with complete and fast access to keywords. Plugin authors could then provide the missing functionality, meeting the more specialized needs of different users (e.g. those with large controlled vocabularies). While plugins rarely work as well

I would like a Lightroom Publish Collection plug-in to publish directly to Photoshop.com from within Lightroom.

When importing DNGs with stored edits (included XMP data) then the history of the photo just shows "Imported..." instead of the list of edits. I have a corrupt catalogue. (I did nothing to cause the correction :() The catalogue contains photos which are not associated to folders in the library module. When I choose "Got to folder in Library module" from the context menu for such photos, nothing happens. I imported them just like any other photos, but somehow the corresponding library folder wasn't created or lost. I tried synchroning the parent folder but the missing subfolders are not created again. That's why I decided the only way forward is to create a new catalogue. However, the new catalogue doesn't have any of the edit history. The rendering is OK and I can reset it to see the original version of the photos but I cannot see the edit history anymore. Why is the edit history not recreated? The essence of it must be available because otherwise the correct final rendering could not

I love the new validate DNG files feature. This will be helpful in detecting corruption of images - which I certainly expect would help me recover the files from a valid backup. I've experienced some bad files over time and this is definitely not just a theoretical risk in my mind. I do have a couple of suggestions I'd like to propose for this new tool: (1) It would be preferable that offline files are reported as "missing" rather than "bad". I'd rather that "bad" is only used to report files which are actually scanned and corrupt. (2) This is the kind of feature people can forget to use for too long. It would be great to schedule a reminder that would show up at a user defined interval. Personally, I'd probably run this every 1-3 months. Perhaps this could pop up as a reminder during shutdown along with the backup reminders?

When I have a crop already selected in the crop & straighten tool, I find it unexpected that when I change the aspect ratio, the crop changes to centered but maximally-expanded. It would seem more natural to me to relate the new cropping to the existing one, eg. by keeping the same center point or the same lower-left point, etc. Of course the boundary cases where the new selection runs into the edge of the image would have to be handled, but when I eg. have original (3x2) selected but want to recrop for an 8x10 print, I want the selected region to pretty much stay the same, which is more difficult to get right when I have to start from scratch instead of making minor adjustments.

I would like to use the entire area of my monitor to see my photos. As it is, LR4 always steals some space from the four edges of the screen for the collapsed panels. On top of that, photos in "fit" mode get another margin between the panels and the photo. There should be a way to get rid of the edge bars for the collapsed panels. They are essentially very large buttons and are unnecessary. Moving the mouse to the edge of the screen could accomplish the same thing. (you could still show them in the click-to-expand mode) The "fit" mode should get rid of the extra margins. I know they look pretty, but form should follow function and not the other way around. (perhaps make it an option). If you do the math, the collapsed panel bars and the margins take up 13% of the screen PS: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LION'S FULL SCREEN MODE PLEASE DON'T MERGE MY TOPIC AGAIN.

Photoshop Lightroom 3: It would be great if the LR3 Slideshow module would allow you to include videos (e.g. .avi files) with the still photos. This capability is in the create slideshow module of Photoshop Elements 9. In PSE 9, it's very simple to create an album and slideshow that include both videos and still photos. In LR3, it's also easy to import videos into a collection that includes still photos. I would like to be able to export a slideshow, especially in high definition format, that I could use to burn BluRay discs, that would include the videos. Currently, I have to export the LR3 collection as a file, import the file into PSE 9, create the file as an album, create and organize a slideshow in PSE 9, then export the slideshow to Premiere Elements 9. Perhaps another option in LR3 would be to export the LR3 slideshow, including videos in a collection directly to Premiere Elements.

Presently, the R, G, & B percent values are shown in the histogram when mousing around, so it seems like a small stretch to put tone on the histogram too - that way we don't have to go to the TAT tool in the tone curve to survey tone.

The one part of Lightroom that I have never got on with is the import module. The file and directory naming options are simply not sufficient to allow for the existing directory structure that and naming conventions that I use. My style is "P:\photos\2011\2011-06\Name of Job\d5100_1234.jpg" which I cannot create with LR3. Instead I use Downloader Pro from BreezeSys which allows me to automatically create this structure, and even prompts me for the "job name" before downloading the images.

Apple release a new Macbook Pro with Retina Display (2880x1800). Applications need to be optimize to support this resolution. More Mac computers will have this type of display in future and I'm suppose Windows computer too. Please considerate to adapt Lightroom to this new display.

Lightroom preferences should contain an option to enable the user to choose between "fast (but inaccurate)" and "accurate (but slower)" renderings in the Develop module. Currently, the setting is hardwired to "fast (but inaccurate)". The user should be given the choice of trading in speed for a better rendering (the latter is available in the Library module). Some image operations (only noise reduction or more?) are not performed in the Develop module unless the magnification is 1:1. This means that at lower magnifications (such as "Fit"), one often sees grainy areas (such as grainy skies, when one has applied drastic HSL controls and/or the image has been pushed in exposure) which are shown to actually be smooth (e.g., due to activated chroma noise reduction) when one zooms in to 1:1. The graininess seems exaggerated in the sense that a normal downscaling of the noisy image to a "Fit" size should not show such course blotches of heavy grain, but something smoother. On my machine (DELL E6400) adjusting the exposure of an image in the Develop module is more difficult than it should be because of the time lag between moving the slider and the image update. I suggest a different strategy for generating visual feedback that yields better immediate performance, possibly trading in slight inaccuracies at first, but within a scheme that resolves the latter as soon as possible. Please see the end of this FR for the actual suggestion; I'd like to motivate it first. It appears that the fixed order in which image operations are applied in the LR pipeline causes some adjustments to result in worse interactivity than necessary. Adjusting the exposure with no other (not even default) image adjustment settings is quick. With some other image adjustments in place, however -- in particular when using the "Details" panel -- adjusting exposure results in jerky image updates that make it hard to find the correct level accurately and quickly. I'd like to see import actions to be invoked upon import such that users could be sure certain post-import action items are always done. This hook could be used to make a 3rd copy, re-locate the second copy, run exiftool, analyze imported photos, assign multiple presets governed by post-import discovery, ..., rename imported photos or folders (SDK support required)... This would take some of the pressure off Adobe for import to be everything for everyone, since import plugins could be invoked... Note: we presently have this feature for exports, but it seems not a bad idea to have it for imports too, for all the reasons above plus the ones I haven't thought of. I would love to see hooks in the Lightroom SDK for pre-import, as well as post-import actions...

LR surprise everyone with support for video in LR 3, but it does not support the AVCHD video format. Why not?

Creating Custom-Pages in the print module an save it as Book-Template instead of saving it as JPG and reimport it. Other publishers can so provide their own templates for LR4. If you add this saving option, it would be necessary to add text-box options in the print module.

I'd like to see a more striking indication when multiple photos are being targeted by develop adjustments, vs. single photo. Its just too easy to leave auto-sync on inadvertently. As it stands, one has to keep peering down at the (auto)sync button to be sure... Also, along with this, I'd suggest handling the auto-sync button in a manner consistent with all the other buttons. i.e. button label indicates what will happen when you click it.

Hi, I'd like to have more options for entering photo captions in Book module. When I create a book, I'd like to insert date/time when the photo was taken, sometimes Location information, file name, etc. It would be helpful when I can fully customize Photo caption or use a preset. What do you think? Pavel Pola

Currently the altitude is read only in the map module for images that already have it. For photos that do not have it you cannot set it , either manually, or form GPX file or from positionning the photo on the map regards

It would be nice if collection specific flags could still work as criteria for global smart collections. This way, for example, the reject flag could be used to find rejects more easily.

Lightroom: Display the FEC setting (Flash Exposure Compensation) from the image EXIF data in the Library, Metadata right-side-panel. Sadly, Lightroom 4 still lacks this simple convenience. Basic 10 year-old tools can display this and more, so it's a shame to have to resort to using a plug-in, or going outside Lightroom to determine this critical image setting.

The Previous button in Develop is a massive time-saver, however I wish there was a dialog to exclude specific settings, as there is with Sync or Copy. I would particularly like to exclude Red Eye, which is very rarely in the same place in the next photo and leaves odd grey dots that aren't immediately noticeable. I would also like to exclude Crop, as I often crop first and then go back and apply Develop adjustments later.
