I keep receiving the "xxx.fm contains unresolved cross references" error, despite repeatedly deleting the old reference, inserting a new one, and saving the document. How can I make the cross reference remain permanently in the document once I insert it?
When clicking at the end of a text line in the document, the cursor appears to be placed at the end of the line. Instinctively, you would start typing, assuming you're adding more text to the same element. However, when looking at the cursor position in the Structure View, the cursor is actually at parent element level. I.e. I have a Paragraph element, following by a (child) List element, made up of several ListItem elements. When I click at the end of the text for the last ListItem element, the cursor is actually on the Paragraph element, rather than the last ListItem element. Is this expected behaviour because the cursor is actually not at the end of the text, but rather after the last (hidden) element tag?
For some reason, I have 1 document that I can never get to display like all the others when I am adding it to a book file. All but the one file will show as Module: # File Name however the file in question shows as Files\Filename. This particular file shows the same in both "Display File Names" and Display Heading View. I have tried saving the file with a new name and even recreating the file but it always defaults to the same view no matter what.
We've just upgraded to FrameMaker 2020 and have run into 2 problems/concerns.1. Speed.Opening documents is extremely slow. Opening a document in 2019 would take approx 10 seconds. In 2020 it takes almost a minute to open the same document. If it's a document heavy on graphics (as most of ours are), once the document finally opens, you an actually see the graphics loading one by one. From the time you open the document to the time you can actually start working on it is almost 2 minutes in FM2020. Even scrolling is slow, it's like each page is being rendered/loaded as it comes into view. Even after you've viewed each page in the document at least once. Opening more than one document causes FM to stop responding (Not Responding message in title bar) until both documents are loaded. 2. ShortcutsEsc fio and Esc fif don't seem to work in FM 2020. Other shorcuts, like Esc fa, Esc fwp, Esc ti, Esc sa are working.
I entered a bug for Framemaker 2020 back in January in Adobe's tracker tool (bug 9622). It had to do with the following conditional tags being added to the product by default:FM_PDF_Comments_Highlight FM_PDF_Comments_Underline5 others also requested that the bug be fixed also. However, it is now May and it is still Open, not fixed. I have been waiting for this fix so i can upgrade Framemaker where i work to Framemaker 2020. We use conditional text heavily here and won't go to FM 2020 until this bug is fixed. How do we get Adobe to fix this bug? Does anyone have any ideas?
Does anyone know if you can do the following in FrameMaker?-Nest tables-Include images in a table cell-Rotate text in a table cell I have the sames questions for AEM. I am trying to decide what functionality exists and whether it exists in both.Thank you.
Is there an FDK command for removing structure from a structured FrameMaker document? I don't want to use an fcode because of the warning message. If so, I am hoping that there is a corresponding ExtendScript command. Thanks.
Hi,In FM2019 we use book files to create HTML5 output that provides links in the left-hand navigation for each guide that's in the product's documentation set (plus copyright and PDF access). You can see that for each file or book in the book file, there's a corresponding link to the product guide in the left-hand navigation: In the trial version of FM2020, this same book file generates output that does not have the name of the product guide in the left-hand navigation, instead all its files are being shown.: In trying to get to the bottom of the problem, I have found out these things:If I use the FM2020 default.sts I get the same 'wrong' outputIf I create a fresh new book file and add in just one book, publish HTML5 causes "Adobe FrameMaker 2020 stopped working" errorChanging the 'book-of-books' book file to have fewer book in it (excluding them or deleting them) then using publish HTML5 causes the "Adobe FrameMaker 2020 stopped working" errorI can't successfully create
I am using Templates to create PDF from DITA contents in FM 20. I have manuals in different languages say English and German. Naturally I would like to have the whole manual including the system variables, if they appear on the manual, to be translated. Currently, I am facing two issues with table continuing to next pages:1. I changed the values for the system variables:" Table Sheet" and "Table Continuation" to their German equivalents to be used in a German manual. Then I pressed the button "Update System Variables", saved the template and updated the Settings. However, these changes are ignored, and I still see the previous values. I have done these changes for these templates: ditabase, ditabase1.3, ChapterOutPut and ListofTables templates one after each other. 2. If there is an umlaut such as "ä" in the title of the table, the words such as Sheet and Continued comming from the aforementioned system variables are completely ignored. I thought I can fix this by changing t
Hi all, I've recently been prepping Framemaker for a move over to DITA and HTML5 at my company. I've recently experienced the following issue when outputting HTML5 using a Ditamap. Basically, when I generate the output, the HTML5 table of contents removes topics from the Ditamap. Some background, i've recently installed JRE to fix a previous error, I wonder if this has anything to do with it? In addition it also displays the following error " :c It may have been moved, edited, or deleted"... and then my output displays some Arabic text near the header. I dont know if this is related or not, but I'm a little bit confused. Please see the attached examples. One of the DITA Map and another of the output.
Windows 7 with SP1, FrameMaker 2019. When I click Continue button, nothing happens. Changing the language or the location doesn't help. What it could be?
In our Table element, we have an Attribute List to select the type of table to create (we have a number of pre-defined table structures). One of the table structures we use is to insert notes/comments into our documents. It's a single row, 2 column, table. Currently, in the first cell, we use a specific paragraph tag to insert an appropriate graphic (Frame Above Pgf) depending on the type of note/comment. The second cell (using a different paragraph tag) contains the text for said note. I'm having trouble defaulting the paragraph tag used in the first and second cell in the table, respectively.I have my Table and Cell elements set up as follows:When I insert the Table element, selecting Note as the Attribute, the format rules fail on the TableType and I'm not sure why (It is entirely possible that I've got it set up wrong). For some of our other Tables, we also need to specify a different paragraph tag for the first row of the table, and a different paragraph tag for the subsequent rows.
To test localisation of my scripts I want to install FM-12 German version. For that purupuse I needed to uninstall the currently (running) FM-12 UK version.I have t he following installation files in my archive:Build-12.0.0.317 releasedUpdate-12.0.1Update-12.0.2Update-12.0.3Update-12.0.4Installing 12.0.0.317 (German) is possible - test run OKUpdate 12.0.1 reports successful update - test run OKUpdate 12.0.2 does not work - "update can not be applied"Strange enough now update 12.0.1 no more is there - FM is back on verion 12.0.0.317Hence I wanted to download this update again from www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=22&platform=Windows - but this site is down since quite a while:Firefox: "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading."Edge: "Hmmm… can't reach this page"Wherefrom can I get the FM-12 updates?Have tried this:Since the base installation is OK, I skipped updates 1, 2, 3 and just installed update 4 - which worked. And now I have a German
Hello all, We are authoring in structured DITA 1.2 using FrameMaker.I'm trying to determine if there is an easy way to provide different sets of (selectable) attributes for different product teams. We have 3 product teams, each owning a series of 5-10 products. The values for profiling attributes (platform, product and audience) is unique for each group. Therefore, it doesn't make sense for one group to see the allowable attribute values for another groups's products. I also don't want each writer to type in the value for the product, platform, or audience. I would like these to be selectable from a pre-defined list (such as the Attributes pod).I know it's possible with other tools (such as Oxygen) to configure a subject scheme map and then add a reference to that subject scheme from the main dita map - doing so allows you to easily select attribute values from a supplied list. I know subject scheme maps are not supported in FrameMaker, but is there any other way to achieve someth
I have a menu item "SetMsgDisplay" which invokes a simple dialogue. For test purpose it contains only a static text. Invoking this for the first time after FM-15 start works OK Invoking it the second to nth time creates an empty window of 2540 x 1020 pix size with not title. The behaviour can not be repeated in debug mode - because no menu is possible in this mode. Directly invoking the dialogue does not show this strange behaviour. Changing the window type to palette: this works correctly. The window ID for the dialog/palette is global (no var declaration for it). Any ideas what is going on here?
We use FM2019 to generate responsive HTML5, which is published on our web site.Is it possible to give customers permalinks pointing into headings/sections in this documentation?Foe example, in the documentation there's a heading/section named "Result Data Types".In the generated HTML5, a cross refererence/link to the heading looks like:https:// ... /ops_values/ops_values.htm#XREF_49655_Result_Data_TypesThe number 49655 makes me think it can change the next time I make changes in the FM-files and generates a new set of HTML5 files. Which means the link will become useless. Is there a way to have more permanent links?
Firstly, i'd quite like to build a document that uses images to navigate through a document, similar to the FM Help website (See attacment for example or open the following link: https://help.adobe.com/en_US/framemaker/using/index.html#t=using-framemaker%2Fuser-guide%2Ffrm_welcome.html). I have pretty much NO idea how to do this... i don't know if I should use markers or Xref's... some of these images will link internally, within the document, and others will be external links.I want this to be the primary navigation through the document in addition to the TOC. Secondly, my TOC keeps burgering itself, it's a proper little hamburgler...For some reason it's omitting some pages from the document all together (see example).I recently had to install JRE so i'm wondering if it has something to do with this ?Regardless, I do need those pages in the TOC, and well, in the document in general.
In our EDD, we have an element called Headings, which manages all our headings, up to 6 child-levels, with General Rule: <TEXT>, Content*, Headings* (Content being an element for inserting paragraph text). When inserting the element, it works correctly, inserting the element as a child of the previous element. But, when hitting Enter, instead of prompting for the next allowed element (Content or child-Heading), it repeats the Heading as if another heading on the same level is added. Is there a way to prevent this from happening using EDD rules?
Structured documents often contain nestable elements. For example, a Section can contain subsections; an Item in a List might contain a sublist. Formatting typically changes for each level of nesting. The Title of a top-level Section might have a single-part number (1., 2., 3., and so forth), while the Title of a second-level Section has a two-part number (1.1., 1.2, 1.3, ....) and a third-level Section a three-part number (1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.1.3, ...). Titles of more deeply nested Sections might not be numbered, and may change font size and other properties. Nested lists may be progressively indented. Numbered lists may use different numbering conventions (1., 2., 3. and so forth) as opposed to (a., b., c., and so forth) for different levels. "Bulleted" lists can mark items in different levels of lists with different symbols (solid or outlined bullets), different shapes (circles, squares, or dashes). An EDD can use either level rules or context levels to determine the
Re: The Enter key in a structured document - Adobe Support Community - 12010203 describes how <TEXT> in a general rule can affect the result of pressing the Enter key when editing a structured document. There are other considerations in the use of <TEXT>: 1. Will you be moving material between structured FrameMaker and XML? Remember that the XML equivalent of a general rule that includes of <TEXT>, must either contain only <TEXT> and no elements, or have the form (<TEXT> | a | b | c ...)*, that is if the expression contains any element names, <TEXT> must be at the beginning and the entire expression must consist of a single set of parentheses using the vertical bar connector and an asterisk at the end. Thus, the defined element can consist of any number of the listed elements, with text allowed at the beginning, between each pair of elements, and at the end. This It is possible to move documents between FrameMaker
I accidently did some sort of weird drag/drop and scroll and it change the size of the text in my Structure View pod. I can't even read the text now.How do I change this back?
Hi there, I have few FM template files located on office Sharepoint that I want to work upon. However, I am unable to open these files with Framemaker 11 version installed on my laptop. I tried to locate the version in which these template files were created, but I was unable to find the version. The following error message gets diaplayed when I try to open these template files: Can anyone help me in fixing this issue? Do we have any workaround to open this document in version 11 of FrameMaker?
Hi, I would like to migrate a word file to dita using the Word-to-DITA (Word2DITA) transformation framework. The method is descriped here. When I choose Structure > Utilities, there is no such "Convert Word (.docx) to DIT" option there. I use FM 15.04.751. Is this utility still available? If not, how can I transform docx to dita using FM? Thanks.

For example, if the cursor is at the end of an element that is formatted as a separate paragraph and can be followed by another paragraph of that type. FrameMaker inserts such a following element. Su
I'm busy developing our first EDD.In the above screenshot, where the highlighted Content element is (#1), I want to add another Heading but on the same level as the previous heading (#2). If I select my Headings element, it adds it as a child level heading, having the following result:Is there a shortcut to do this, without having to click on the Structure View first?
