FrameMaker

Hi there We'd want to build a simple control version system for our documentation developed with Framemaker 2019 unstructured. Right now we don't need merge capabilities at all, just saving project files (.fm, .book, and other resouces) sent from writers, lock the files that they're worwing, manage versions and so on. I'm evaluating some svn-like solutions (git and others) but I noticed that maybe Sharepoint is good enough for this task and it's well integrated on FrameMaker. Is sharepoint a viable solution for this goal? Is there anybody on this forum that is using sharepoint in this way? Thanks a lot for your time

OK, so I'll admit that thanks to internal issues I'm still stuck on FM 12 … but here's today's unexpected challenge: I have a file I use as a text inset, and in this file I reference an .eps graphic.if I save the text inset file as .pdf, I get a clean vector imageif I save the file that uses the text inset as .pdf, I just get the preview .tifWhat's going on, and how do I solve it? Hi All, I was a long time IXGEN user. Unfortunately, they've retired and it does not work with FrameMaker 2019.  Has anyone found a good replacement tool for bulk processing of index entries?  One of the things I loved about IXGEN was the ability to generate a table of all the book's index entries, then fix them across an entire book. For example, if I had lots of similar entries that were singular, plural or maybe had slight wording differences, I could quickly make them all the same and apply the changes bookwide.  Any pointers would be sincerely appreciated?

Using FM 2019 to create the Responsive HTML5 Webhelp, the conversion of the files is terminated with internal error 15034.The webhelp cannot be created. Has anyone already encountered that error and has a solution? GreetinxSteph' 

Hi All, After installation of Fm2019. We are trying to create and run FM as a service using installutill.exe. Could you please let us know the .net version compatability for it. Currently we are using C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\installutil

I am following instructions for DITA relationship tables from the Adobe Framemaker 2019 release guide and do not see the "rel table" option in Elements. I have tried inserting one on each level, so that's not the issue. I have also tried inserting a regular table, but that is not giving the type option for Topic, Task, Concept, etc. I am using Framemaker 15.0.4.751. Any help is appreciated!

Hi All,I have a script that creates TOC-style Hypertext links in a custom Table of Contents. I am using this syntax: openObjectId C:/DATA/Scripts/JMCC/20190906_AMM/UPS AMM Build/11-31-01-201.fm:2 1011442 The links work when I Control-Alt-Click on them in FrameMaker. However, when I make a PDF of the book, some of the links fail to work in the PDF. When I look at the links with Acrobat Pro, it appears that the corresponding named destinations are not created in the PDF and that is why the links fail. It doesn't occur with all links, only some of them. In the above example, when I examine the link, it is pointing to named destination G6.1011442. However, this named destination does not exist in the PDF file. How does the new FrameMaker print engine determine which named destinations get created in the resulting PDF file? Rick

I'm on Windows 10, 64 GB RAM 64 bit OS. Intel Xeon 2.70 GHZInstalled FM 2019 about a month ago and it crashed randomly...then stopped. I was saving frequently and then quit doing that and it "magically" stopped crashing.  When I started another new document based on a structured template, the random crashing started again a few days ago. Today,  I uninstalled FM 2017, then reinstalled FM 2019. The crashing is still happening. At first it would create .dmp files. Now it isn't. I can't pinpoint when it crashes exactly. It has been when i'm just inserting cursor into the structured view or doing nothing at all (I came back from lunch and it shut down). Any suggestions? 10/07/2019 Update: Company upgraded to latest version of Windows 10 and that seemed to elimate the issue.  Not sure if it eliminated a bug in Windows, FrameMaker, or my machine. I created a table style for images in FrameMaker (version 15.0.4.751). When I select the style, the table column runs off the page. (Shown here.) I know there has to be an easy way to fix the style so that this doens't happen. Or even an easy way to resize the column on the right. However, I can't find instructions for either of these things! Probably my holiday brain, but if anyone can help me out with this simple answer, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

When the user opens a book file and try to edit the chapters, every chapters takes around 5 seconds to allow editing. Is working under Windows 10, the user complains because it says it loaded inmediately with Windows 7. What could I check to improve this loading time?

Dear all,I want to support certain palettes (modified equation palette, vertical tool bar) for higher resultion screens. You all do know the passage from Help/User guide:FrameMaker's user interface is now compatible with high-resolution screens ranging up to 3480 x2160 pixels. Earlier, when you launched FrameMaker on a high-resolution display device, the text onthe user interface would render too small. You would have to use a workaround to overcome thisproblem for earlier versions of FrameMaker. However, starting from 2017 release, FrameMakersupports high-resolution display devices. The user interface and all text automatically resizes as perWindows display settings.But there no mentioning of when size small (100%), medium (150%) and large (200%) of the icons is taken. In particular, is the medium size taken for Windows zoom factor 101 … 150 or what?Can somebody give me a hint?

I've tried twice today to post a procedure for accomplishing this. I titled it:PROCEDURE FOR CROSS-LINKING BOOKS IN UNSTRUCTURED FRAMEMAKER FOR PDF OUTPUT. Each time I do it I get back that it might be SPAM, and it does not get posted. I'm resurrecting this discussion as I am in the middle of creating cross references between books. I'm interjecting at this point in the discussion thread because it appears it's the appropriate part of the discussion.   Summary: Using FM2019 unstructured, I am creating PDF output only. I have 24 books. They will be heavily cross referenced. I have been able to get this to work. Sort of...   I'm noticing an odd behaviour in Acrobat Pro.  I have a cross-reference in (what I'll refer to as) book3 which points to a section heading in book2. This works. Thank you BarbBinder and Bob Niland for your insights.   However: I have book3 open using AcrobatPro. I click the cross-ref in book3 to open book2. Book2 opens and takes me to the desired location, but book3 is nolonger open.   If I then, (using Acrobat Pro File->Open pull-down) open Book3, it opens. Now the one instance of Acrobat Pro displays both book2 and book3. But if I then click the cross-ref in book3 so I

If we could cross-reference to a specific phrase within a paragraph, spot cross-references would be easier to create and maintain than the current system. While I would still like to see the <$markertext> building block available in cross-reference formats, being able to xref to a character tag would be more efficient in many situations. I've already installed and reinstalled my Adobe FrameMaker 2019 64-bit but still can't get it to go past the splash screen. I'm using it on a Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit. It was working fine last week, but this week when I tried to open it again, it just failed. The last time I used it was last Friday. Wondering if it got affected by a disk and browser cleanup I did. I also installed it via the ESD program. 

Can we open FM11 files with FM10?

Hello all,Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this. I've used FM for many years but have never tried this, and am wondering if it is possible. I'm thinking it is, I simply have never had need to do this. I am using FM unstructured documents.  To explain: I have a book comprised of multiple documents. With the finished PDF, I want the reader to be able to click on a term which sits within a paragraph in a table and have FM take the reader to a table in a separate document which contains a description of this term. I also want to be able to define what displays on the source entry. In other words, I want what the reader clicks on to display whatever text I want it to display. So, I:1. create a cross-reference marker where the term exists in the destination document and table.Then I:2. go to the source document and table, highlight the term where I want to cross-reference to be invoked, and go into the Cross-Reference window to try and create the reference.  But

I am unable to publish my DITA bookmap if the DITA topic files are saved as .fm. FM says: "An error occurred in the publish process. View the log file for more details" log file says: Unable to publish. "Validate XML source files and retry". It works if files are in xml format. Is the publish in HTML5 format is meant to work only with xml files?

Hi! I am publishing Responsive HTML5 from .ditamap with looooots of xml-files on different levels. I would like the output to have numering on different levels (1., 1.1., 1.1.1. etc.) both in the TOC of the webpage and in the page titles. How do I do this?  I have tried changing numbering with Paragraph designer in Document view, but that doesn't help, since it appears outside text tags. Or that's why I think it doesn't help, for all I know it could be anything else, too. I also do not have Style Mapping tab in my publishing settings, should it always be there with ditamap? In case someone suggests style mapping as a solution. For all other formatting I have a .css file as override style and that's working fine.  Should I try to search the jungle of  FM to find solution or perhaps ask some html/css wizard whether they could do it with the .css? Thanks for any help!

I'm having a mini-TOC issue: FrameMaker 2019 v15.0.4.751 Heading2 has auto-number defined as: a:Part < ><n+>. In this file, the part number is 2. Footer is correctly picking up the part number using <$paranumonly[Heading2] and displays a 2. X-refs are correctly picking up the part number using <$paranumonly[Heading2] and display a 2. Mini-TOC is not. Instead <$paranumonly[Heading2] is picking up the Heading3MTOC & Heading4MTOC numbers.   MTOC Reference Page   MTOC on Body Page The numbers in orange on the right should all be a 2, representing the part number for this file. Instead, they are displaying the numbes from the beginning of the MTOC line. What am I doing wrong?   Thanks in advance, ~Barb

Hello. We have custom API client for FrameMaker and we are migrating it to FrameMaker 2019. We have defined a new menu with lot of submenu. We use keyboard shortcuts such as Esc Wfi.. But it doesn't look nice in menus. Is there a property or some FM settings to hide it but shortcuts still functional?See this for example of menu shorcuts: 

Hi,   I am not a CCS expert. Therefore my question might be basic for you. In my documents the warnings are in single row tables with two columns. Left column is the warning icon. Right column holds the text. Below the column is a line. I had set up these warning tables in CSS, and almost everything works well. Only the distance between the text and the border below the table is too large. I had set the table height attribute in CSS to auto. However, the conversion sets a height which depends on the number of text lines in the table in FrameMaker. I can see this when I decrease the width of the browser window. The distance is kept, until there are as many lines as in the FrameMaker table. When I decrease the window width further, the height adapts to the current number of lines It does not help, when I set the table height in the CSS to e.g. 10px. Or when I set the height of the various rows separately to auto or 10px. Still there is this large distance. Only when I change the val
