Hello all,Thanks in advance to anyone who reads this. I've used FM for many years but have never tried this, and am wondering if it is possible. I'm thinking it is, I simply have never had need to do this. I am using FM unstructured documents. To explain: I have a book comprised of multiple documents. With the finished PDF, I want the reader to be able to click on a term which sits within a paragraph in a table and have FM take the reader to a table in a separate document which contains a description of this term. I also want to be able to define what displays on the source entry. In other words, I want what the reader clicks on to display whatever text I want it to display. So, I:1. create a cross-reference marker where the term exists in the destination document and table. Then I:2. go to the source document and table, highlight the term where I want to cross-reference to be invoked, and go into the Cross-Reference window to try and create the reference. But
If you'd like to see the ability to use a <$markertext> building block inside of cross-references (especially useful for spot xrefs to markers) the please vote for the following feature request https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-7695 The VOTE button is likely in the lower right corner of the tracker window
I am unable to publish my DITA bookmap if the DITA topic files are saved as .fm. FM says: "An error occurred in the publish process. View the log file for more details" log file says: Unable to publish. "Validate XML source files and retry". It works if files are in xml format. Is the publish in HTML5 format is meant to work only with xml files?
Hi! I am publishing Responsive HTML5 from .ditamap with looooots of xml-files on different levels. I would like the output to have numering on different levels (1., 1.1., 1.1.1. etc.) both in the TOC of the webpage and in the page titles. How do I do this? I have tried changing numbering with Paragraph designer in Document view, but that doesn't help, since it appears outside text tags. Or that's why I think it doesn't help, for all I know it could be anything else, too. I also do not have Style Mapping tab in my publishing settings, should it always be there with ditamap? In case someone suggests style mapping as a solution. For all other formatting I have a .css file as override style and that's working fine. Should I try to search the jungle of FM to find solution or perhaps ask some html/css wizard whether they could do it with the .css? Thanks for any help!

I'm having a mini-TOC issue: FrameMaker 2019 v15.0.4.751 Heading2 has auto-number defined as: a:Part < ><n+>. In this file, the part number is 2. Footer is correctly picking up the part number using <$paranumonly[Heading2] and displays a 2. X-refs are correctly picking up the part number using <$paranumonly[Heading2] and display a 2. Mini-TOC is not. Instead <$paranumonly[Heading2] is picking up the Heading3MTOC & Heading4MTOC numbers. MTOC Reference Page MTOC on Body Page The numbers in orange on the right should all be a 2, representing the part number for this file. Instead, they are displaying the numbes from the beginning of the MTOC line. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance, ~Barb
Hello. We have custom API client for FrameMaker and we are migrating it to FrameMaker 2019. We have defined a new menu with lot of submenu. We use keyboard shortcuts such as Esc Wfi.. But it doesn't look nice in menus. Is there a property or some FM settings to hide it but shortcuts still functional?See this for example of menu shorcuts:
Hi, I am not a CCS expert. Therefore my question might be basic for you. In my documents the warnings are in single row tables with two columns. Left column is the warning icon. Right column holds the text. Below the column is a line. I had set up these warning tables in CSS, and almost everything works well. Only the distance between the text and the border below the table is too large. I had set the table height attribute in CSS to auto. However, the conversion sets a height which depends on the number of text lines in the table in FrameMaker. I can see this when I decrease the width of the browser window. The distance is kept, until there are as many lines as in the FrameMaker table. When I decrease the window width further, the height adapts to the current number of lines It does not help, when I set the table height in the CSS to e.g. 10px. Or when I set the height of the various rows separately to auto or 10px. Still there is this large distance. Only when I change the val
Hi Hoping someone can help with the below. We have recently upgraded from FM11 to FM2019 due to Win7 upgrades to Win10. Main issue is when trying to insert an image, it will open a window to browse to the file and after a few seconds it will freeze for about 5 seconds, then crash with error 'Adobe FrameMaker has stopped working and must close'. I've sent the logs to Adobe and they were unable to resolve the issue. I checked event viewer and the error appeared to relate to .net framework, does anyone know what the minimum .net framework requirement is for 2019?. Has anyone had similar issues? It also crashes when trying to save as PDF.. Thanks
Hi!I am working on manuals that are ditamaps with xml files as child topicrefs. I am doing manuals for the same product but under a different brand name and, therefore, it is most economical for me to copy the orginal product's and brand's manual and then just change names everywhere etc. However, I have been unable to discover how to change the map title of the ditamap. This is not a problem untill I convert the map to .book file and further save as pdf. The map title is very determined to stay in the top of the book document and also appear as the title of TOC. Therefore, it has to be changed to match the correct brand. This ought to be a simple thing, however, I'm yet to discover it. Many thanks for all tips!
Hello Adobe FM community.I have a project where I must heavily cross-reference 24 books. I've read all the posts regarding how to get this to work. I'd like to document the procedure as clearly as possible and see if anyone might comment. I want to take it step by step and make sure I have it all crystal clear. My apologies for writing absolutely everything out. This initial post will cover the folder structure setup, and nothing more. What I've read suggest that I must:1. Create all book files in the same folder. Let's call the folder C:\RegulatoryBooks\For example, this folder will contain all my 24 book files, so it will look something like this:C:\RegulatoryBooks\RRI_01_Introduction.book \RRI_02_Common_Data_Types.book \RRI_03_Constructing_Rep
I'd like to use an image (checkbox_yes.png) instead of a bullet, so as to represent one or more enabled system options instead of inserting full or cropped screenshots. I know I could probably set up a special table for this, but this doc already has too many tables as is.The FM Help only discusses using different fonts to replace bullets, but not images. Can someone help?Thx
Well, despite administrative hassles and an astoundingly slow network, I finally managed to download the TCS .zip. But here's what happened so far:download TechnicalCommunicationSuite_en_US_WIN_64.zipunzip – result, folder "Technical Communication Suite", containing Technical Communication Suite.ccp plus subfolders Build and Exceptionsexplore subfolder Build, containing subfolders plus setup.exe and Technical Communications Suite.msirun Technical Communications Suite.msi – a few moments of progress thermometer, then "Adobe Installer has stopped working"Am I supposed to run setup.exe first / instead? or am I really expected to run the snazzy new .msi installer, but something has gone wrong? A bit more "technical communication" around the Technical Communications Suite might not come amiss :-}
Hi, I am working on an Arabic manual and am having issues with the numerals in the content. As of now they are in a Western-Arabic format (1, 2, 3...), but I would like to have them in a Eastern (Indo)-Arabic format (٠,١, ٢, ٣). Is there a way to do this without too much hands-on work? I've managed to get numbered lists and page numbering to the correct format. Much appreciated for any answers.
Update Book has an option to apply master pages. If a body text frame on the resulting pages has a different size than that on the original page, content might overflow onto new pages. The new pages should use the master page specified in the master page mapping table. In some cases, however, the new pages use the default master page ("Right" in a single-sided document, "Left" or "Right" in a double-sided document). This seems to happen to documents that are closed or open but not visible. Opening all documents in the book and placing them in separate windows with Window > Tile before updating the book produces the expected results. I have provided a more detailed description and sample files in https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-7650. --Lynne
Is the 196 the patch for Adobe FrameMaker 9.0.1 (p230) update?
In Framemaker 2019, how can we use the Change Bar character tag WITHOUT it causing an override of all the other character tags in the same area?
I publish responsive HTML5 online help for my company's software. When I started using FrameMaker, it was with FM12 which handled hooks and filenames very well. When we upgraded to FM2019, I cannot follow the same steps and get the same results. We need a constant file name for each page (*.htm) file in the responsive help. In FM12, the CSHelp_Hook allowed us to specify a constant name for the page's filename in the help. In FM2019, it ignores the hook and always uses the section header as the filename. This is okay for our English version but we send out for translations. When the file is translated, it tries to use section header, which is now not English, instead of using the untranslated file name that we need it to use. Any idea of what might be going wrong and how to fix this?
Hello! Apologies, in advance, for the "noob" nature of this question. I created a standalone List of Figures and List of Tables for a book that I am updating. These two lists did not exist before, so I auto-generated them from the book file. How do I add the LoF and LoT entries to the pre-existing TOC? Is it a manual process using cross-refences? Sorry - I tried to find this answer in the forums (and I'm sure it's there, somewhere) and online but failed miserably.
Sorry for repeating this issue but I am still puzzled how to add appendices to my published DITA bookmap.Shortly, I use FrameMaker 2019 and to create my book, I use a DITA bookmap, where each chapter is a dita map. In the bookmap, I then specify the type of each dita map, such as chapter or appendix etc. In FrameMaker help, it is "as usual" vaguely and without clear examples, stated: A bookmap is a specialized DITA map that allows you to organize and print your DITA topics as a book. A bookmap defines elements such as chapter and appendix. A DITA map does not impose structural rules with regards to the sequence of the topic references. However, to maintain a book structure, the bookmap defines rules such as disallowing a chapter element after the appendix element. However, if you just do as mentioned above, the appendices appear as chapters in the publisahed book, ignoring the type, specified in the bookmap! In an other post, it is suggested that one can
We purchased a FrameMaker 2019 perpetual license in September 2018 (upgrade from FM 2017). Why have I been reverted to a 30 day trial license again today? Bridget Wilkinson
Hello. I am having an issue with a fresh install of FrameMaker 2019 on Windows 10.It doesn't seem to have installed AcroDist.exe so I am unable to save as a PDF.I get a popup with the message: "Framemaker could not find Adobe PDF Printer Instance, which must be installed to execute save to PDF" and then in the log files I see this:Couldn't read SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroDist.exeCouldn't read AcroDist\shell\open\commandCouldn't read SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroDist.exeCouldn't read AcroDist\shell\open\commandI have tried uninstalling and re-installing but that hasn't helped. I did have Acrobat Reader DC installed so I uninstalled that in case it was causing issues and then did another re-install of FrameMaker 2019. Same issue.I don't have any Adobe Printer showing up in my printers.I tried installing the distiller package separately but it wouldn't let me. Told me to run the application install it came bundled with.Out of ideas n
I'm working with FM2019 on Windows 10. When converting an unstructured FM book to HTML5, any list items (numbered or bulleted list) that had inline images were displaying wrong (messed up indentation, multiple list items displayed on one line). For some reason, standard body text was not affected, only list items. My list items are set to "Convert to text" in the HTML5 settings file (for other formatting reasons). I fixed this problem by activating the option "Clean inline HTML styles" in General Settings. Hurray! The knock-on problem is that my dynamic HTML items are now not displaying properly. DropDownCaptions are displayed "open" (instead of closed) and are shown with both the open image and the closed image before the text. When closed, they show neither image. Before I activated the "Clean inline HTML styles" option, these dynamic HTML items were displaying correctly. Do I have to choose which problem to live with?
Am I the only one to have troubles with the html5 publishing from FrameMaker 2019?. I am running win7 64, and the latest update of FrameMaker 2019, and I have just spent three hours watching my documents slowly disintegrate, What started as a couple of documents with some mp4's embedded and an, almost, working publishing to html5, has ended in corrupted documents where nothing really works. Videos disappear from the published files and program starts crashing and making strange errors. Underways I have tried doing all the common magic. Deleting preferences. Deleting exported files. Mifwashing etc. I can't figure out what is happening and it seems the only solution is rebuilding everything from scratch and hope the process does not repeat. I wonder... can this kind of trouble be caused by running Win 7, as opposed to Win10?
Does anyone know the purpose of the appendix and appendices elements in a dita bookmap file? They seem to generate exactly the same .fm files as chapter elements when saving the dita bookmap file as a book with component files. What I really want to know is how to save a ditamap or a bookmap as a book and have some of the topics be formatted as appendices instead of chapters.
