Update Book has an option to apply master pages. If a body text frame on the resulting pages has a different size than that on the original page, content might overflow onto new pages. The new pages should use the master page specified in the master page mapping table. In some cases, however, the new pages use the default master page ("Right" in a single-sided document, "Left" or "Right" in a double-sided document).   This seems to happen to documents that are closed or open but not visible. Opening all documents in the book and placing them in separate windows with Window > Tile before updating the book produces the expected results.   I have provided a more detailed description and sample files in https://tracker.adobe.com/#/view/FRMAKER-7650.         --Lynne

In Framemaker 2019, how can we use the Change Bar character tag WITHOUT it causing an override of all the other character tags in the same area?  

I publish responsive HTML5 online help for my company's software. When I started using FrameMaker, it was with FM12 which handled hooks and filenames very well. When we upgraded to FM2019, I cannot follow the same steps and get the same results. We need a constant file name for each page (*.htm) file in the responsive help. In FM12, the CSHelp_Hook allowed us to specify a constant name for the page's filename in the help. In FM2019, it ignores the hook and always uses the section header as the filename. This is okay for our English version but we send out for translations. When the file is translated, it tries to use section header, which is now not English, instead of using the untranslated file name that we need it to use. Any idea of what might be going wrong and how to fix this?

Hello! Apologies, in advance, for the "noob" nature of this question. I created a standalone List of Figures and List of Tables for a book that I am updating. These two lists did not exist before, so I auto-generated them from the book file. How do I add the LoF and LoT entries to the pre-existing TOC? Is it a manual process using cross-refences? Sorry - I tried to find this answer in the forums (and I'm sure it's there, somewhere) and online but failed miserably.

Sorry for repeating this issue but I am still puzzled how to add appendices to my published DITA bookmap.Shortly, I use FrameMaker 2019 and to create my book, I use a DITA bookmap, where each chapter is a dita map. In the bookmap, I then specify the type of each dita map, such as chapter or appendix etc. In FrameMaker help, it is "as usual" vaguely and without clear examples, stated:  A bookmap is a specialized DITA map that allows you to organize and print your DITA topics as a book. A bookmap defines elements such as chapter and appendix. A DITA map does not impose structural rules with regards to the sequence of the topic references. However, to maintain a book structure, the bookmap defines rules such as disallowing a chapter element after the appendix element. However, if you just do as mentioned above, the appendices appear as chapters in the publisahed book, ignoring the type, specified in the bookmap! I am having an issue with a fresh install of FrameMaker 2019 on Windows 10.It doesn't seem to have installed AcroDist.exe so I am unable to save as a PDF.I get a popup with the message: "Framemaker could not find Adobe PDF Printer Instance, which must be installed to execute save to PDF" and then in the log files I see this:Couldn't read SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroDist.exeCouldn't read AcroDist\shell\open\commandCouldn't read SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\AcroDist.exeCouldn't read AcroDist\shell\open\commandI have tried uninstalling and re-installing but that hasn't helped. I'm working with FM2019 on Windows 10. When converting an unstructured FM book to HTML5, any list items (numbered or bulleted list) that had inline images were displaying wrong (messed up indentation, multiple list items displayed on one line). For some reason, standard body text was not affected, only list items. My list items are set to "Convert to text" in the HTML5 settings file (for other formatting reasons). I fixed this problem by activating the option "Clean inline HTML styles" in General Settings. Hurray! The knock-on problem is that my dynamic HTML items are now not displaying properly. DropDownCaptions are displayed "open" (instead of closed) and are shown with both the open image and the closed image before the text. When closed, they show neither image.Before I activated the "Clean inline HTML styles" option, these dynamic HTML items were displaying correctly. Do I have to choose which problem to live with?

Am I the only one to have troubles with the html5 publishing from FrameMaker 2019?. I am running win7 64, and the latest update of FrameMaker 2019, and I have just spent three hours watching my documents slowly disintegrate, What started as a couple of documents with some mp4's embedded and an, almost, working publishing to html5, has ended in corrupted documents where nothing really works. Videos disappear from the published files and program starts crashing and making strange errors. Underways I have tried doing all the common magic. Deleting preferences. Deleting exported files. Mifwashing etc. I can't figure out what is happening and it seems the only solution is rebuilding everything from scratch and hope the process does not repeat. I wonder... can this kind of trouble be caused by running Win 7, as opposed to Win10?

Does anyone know the purpose of the appendix and appendices elements in a dita bookmap file?  They seem to generate exactly the same .fm files as chapter elements when saving the dita bookmap file as a book with component files. What I really want to know is how to save a ditamap or a bookmap as a book and have some of the topics be formatted as appendices instead of chapters.

Hi, With update 4 on Windows 10, I'm getting a hard crash during certain processing that I did not get with update 3 (or any previous version of FM). Is it safe to download and install update 3 to verify? This crash is happening during a period of heavy, customized processing by plugins, so it is not easy to describe when it happens. These things are hard to track down. I'd just like to find out if update 4 is the cause. Russ

My TOC is not behaving as expected I am getting the lead ins between the wron separators. I am seeing it on inbetween the <$paranum> and <$paratext> instead of between the <$paratext. and <$pagenum> I set it up with a R tabstop at 6.396" .... and it shows properly on my ref page but does not format properly on the body pages all three paragraph styles are the same Module v 2.2 (TOC) Section v 2.2 (TOC) and SubSection v 2.2 (TOC) so I am not sure why it is not showing like this:Module 1: "Title".......................................................................... 1Section 1.1 "Title"......................................................................... 3 Subsection 1.1.1 "Title" ............................................................... 5   Per all the tutorials and Matt Sullivan's tutorial I am doing it correctly but for some reason it is not showing properly.. What am I missing?      

Hello I am using FM 2019. I've created a standalone LOT and LOF file, but they are not inherting the numbering from the previous chapter.  I've tried to manually adjust the pagination so that it recognizes the page number of the previous chapter of the book via Format->Document->Numbering->Page->Continue Numbering from previous page in book.  It doesn't work. Help? Thank you!

Hello. In our application we set printer to our internal PostScript driver and print FM files to PostScript. This works well but sometimes we got dialog with "The font information for your system has been changed".This stops our operations and user needs to click OK to continue the process. Is there a way how to suppress this dialog in FDK or by some FM settings? Thanks.

Glyphs palette is not working in adobe FrameMaker 2017 the glyph palette won't stay open and will not allow me to select fonts and then closes.

I am having issues with indexterm elements in DITA 1.3. Apparently and in general, one should use the prolog to place his/her indexterm elements. FrameMaker lets me do that but after publishing the ditamap, my index page is empty! Now if I place the indexterms in the body of for instance paragraph elements, the indexes appear properly. But I am worried it is going to cause problems lateron in translation.

Greetings;I have headings that have character or number in square box. ( For example  )I couldn't find the exact symbol in character palette. After then I tried to insert character or number in text box in anchored frame. It worked. But when I update the TOC or index, I can't see text box in TOC. Is there any other procedure to write box around the character or number and to put it in TOC or index? Is there any suggestion to solve this problem?

Dear all, I'm really desperateIn Windows 7 two months ago everything worked without such problems. W7 (now w10,1909) is on the first partition (C:); most programs (including FMs) are on H: (ESTK is on C, it can not be placed elsewhere). All partitions are on SSD, machine has 2.5 GHz.Have now installed, re-installed FM-15.0.4.751 and ESTK-4 at least 3 times, but ESTK does not behave at all. Other FMs (12, 13, 14)  provide the same  misbehaviour for ESTK:3 minute MP4 video : time from start. While working with xml files (in my case DITA topic), I would like to refresh the WYSIWYG view to the actual look of the output files. A cumbersome way would be to close and open the xml file. Is there a shortcut to refresh the view in a smarter (easier) way?

There are several places in my document that I have blank space that shouldn't be there I cant find any page breaks or any reason why the Note:Repeat steps for ..... should fit on the previous page niether paaragraph style is attached to the previous or next paragraphs. I turned on text symbols to see if I could find any rouge carriage returns or any other reasons that there would be so much blank space. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thank you.   

Hi!As stated above, I am working with FM2019 and I have a .book file (originally .ditamap saved as FM composite document 2019 and then made into book by inserting a Standalone TOC > a new book). Now, when I have the book open in FM the punctuation inside "note" paragraph tag looks fine. It also looks fine when publishing into Responsive HTML5. Or when using the publishing tool to publish PDF (However, I'd rather not use that, since it brings more and bigger problems atm. that just when saving the book as PDF).Anyhow, in the saved PDF periods appear as commas, commas appear as asterisk, and brackets are either facing the wrong direction or they appear as braces. Those are atleast some I've spotted. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you!

FM11 / DITA 1.2I decided a while back that I would make all of my tables as wide as my pages for consistency in output. I have some tables that are a bit narrower, so I went into the XML files and resized them. When I open the files again (and on output), I find that the tables have reverted to their original widths. In some cases, this wrecks the text and causes breaks in weird places. The only way I've been able to fix this so far is to make a new table. Why won't the changed table widths stay changed?

I have a document with five conditional tags, where each tag is a different version of a product -- let's say the tags are A, B, C, D, and E for products A, B, C, D, and E.   I recently learned that Product D will be discontinued, so I've deleted all of the D-specific text, and I've also removed the tag from any text that it shares with the other products.   Now I want to delete the "D" conditional tag completely. I've selected the tag in the Conditional Tags pod, clicked Delete, and then clicked OK. The "D" tag is removed ... but so is the "E" tag.   This looks like a bug to me, but I'm a newbie -- perhaps I made a mistake when creating the "E" tag (which I added after adding the D tag). Is this a known issue? I've searched the posts here and can't find any reports of the same problem.   Thanks!
