Dear all,The script is loaded from Startup folder and establishes a menu item.When this menu item is executed the script runs and issues a message.If I do not close this message in 'due time' - whatever that is - I get the messageHey fans, an alert is meant to be read and normally one must think about it. At least in my case this takes some time, becouse the message comprises 10 lines.What is the purpose of this message besides interrupting my thinking?An alert message should stand there without hassle until OK is klicked.The really bad thing is this: after this message the menu item is futschikato per tutti - gone is gone! EditI think this message appears only while building the menu, which is part of the script.Some re-arangements made the message disappear - order of things matters...

Since the latest update of FM2019 one of my documents has an issue with its xrefs.Tried to update them - the pod says fine - the console on publish says no.Tried to remove them and inserting them again.Pod says yay fine ... console on publish says no. Now am frustrated since all other refs work and just that one not.No errors on opening the referenced files... nothing that could indicate that behaviour.And its not the first time I am using this funcitonality and in all other docs it is just fine.Checked the xml physically also outside FM to see if IDs or something might trigger the issue and all looks good.Evend did a gazillion times the DITA update references ... nothing.Any ideas?

Need to replace Arial, Times Roman with Calibri in the entire book (FM 10). Please let me know the script for this. I am very new to this.Please help

So far I know this (please correct me if I'm werong):The menu is established according to the menu file mentioned in the current workspace. As long as no document is open this is none.fwsScripts from Startup are executed. These may modify the menu.The Welcome screen is presentedAt this stage not all of the menu modifications have been done.Although the menu.cfg referenced in WS none.fws contains the following statement, this menu is not moved to the far left.  <Order !MakerMainMenu.!FMidMain <Before !MakerMainMenu.FileMenu>>  This happens only at the open of a document or book. And it stays there when all documents/books are closed and only the Welcome screen is present.The problem seems to be specific to the top menus, because changes to the existing menu structure (added items in Help and elsewhere) are present already in the menus presented at Welcome screen stage. Hi,I would like to extend my user manual template using text insets and variables for single sourcing into different languages. In other words, what I am trying to explain is a book with n chapters where each chapter is available in few different languages. I would like then to create a book whose n chapters (chapter_1 to chapter_n) are blank templates. Then using text insets, I can import the corresponding texts into each individual chapter. However, I would like to have only one book for all the different languages that I have. To achieve this, I intend to refer to the corresponding fm files using a "lang" variable. For instance, into chapter_1, I would like to import: chapter_1_eng.fm and into chapter_2: chapter_2_eng.fm etc. Then for German that would be chapter_1_ger.fm for chapter_1 and chapter_2_ger.fm for chapter_2. This way, I can set the value of the lang variable to the corresponding language after opeining the book and hopefully get the correct chapter contents. So, all I w

Whenever I click File > Open... it defaults to showing me All FrameMaker Documents.  99% of the time I want to open the *.book file and nothing else.  Since I use only one folder for my *.fm, *.book, and *.mif files, it's always a scrolling affair to find the *.book file.  Either that or manually change the Files Of Type: setting. Is there a way to make File > Open... default to *.book ?

I have a project I am working on using my desktop. My folder is on a portable drive plugged into the desktop. I pulled the drive and plugged it in to my MS Surface which also has the same version of FM2019v15.0.3.603 to work on my project while I was out. Back on the desktop when opening the project, 10 out of 13 files were corrupt and unusable including the .backup files. Why did this happen?

Is everyone OK knowing that you cannot import from Word or even COPY from Word? Previous versions had no problem at all importing from Word or pasting copied text from Word but, with Frame 19, I can no longer do that. This is an UPGRADE?!?!

I am building an application that reports the page number of a given type of marker. This is normally quite simple as I just need to test for the TextLoc and resolve that to give the correct body page number. It's not so easy if the marker is located in a paragraph that spans multiple pages. In that case the reported location is the start location of the containing paragraph and that could be several pages away from the actual marker location. I understand that the offset of the marker location gives its true location, but how do we relate that to an actual page? My initial attempt has been to compare the marker's TextLoc offset with the occurence of TextItems with dataType of Constants.FTI_PageBegin. Am I on the right track, or am I missing somthing really obvious?   I haven't posted any code yet because I wanted to discuss this at the conceptual level first. Thanks Ian

FM 2019, when publishing to Responsive HTML5, has built-in search functionality. Enter a key word and search will display its occurances in the document, hyperlinking the results. If only publishing to Responsive HTML5, maybe a useful alternative in that type of publication for indexing? Wonder if an ExtendScript could be written to hyperlink/buttonize words in a pseudo-index word list, placed for example, at the end of a document, with an action that would populate the search function with the selected (clicked) "index" word, trigger the search, display the hyperlinked search results for that word in the Responsive HTML5 UI, as is now displayed for a standard search? Maybe an interesting option, if it can be done? Best Wishes,S

I use text insets for individual software features and then import each one into a Release Note template - a sort of building block process. However, some features are not available for all versions of software due to hardware dependencies. How can I make my text inset conditional? I tried selecting just the text inset and a dialogue box appears asking if I want to make the text unconditional or delete the text. I tried selecting an empty paragraph marker before and after the text inset, and the same dialogue box appears. Also, with tables, is there anyway to remove the hash (xxxx) marks from the table when making them conditional?

Hi,Have created a 274 page FrameMaker document (eBook for HTML5 publishing). Need to create a basic index at the end of the document, alphabetized a-z with each index subject word and page numbers where the word appears in multiple pages in the document.For example,Aattitude, 12, 35, 92, 121, 208, 245 Reading in the help materials about indexing in a FrameMaker (unstructured) document, I find the first instance of "attitude" (page 12 in this example) and using the insert marker tab, I select "attitude", create the Index tag. This show when I display text symbols ("T"). So far, so good. But, is there a way that I can automate the process so that the other page locations (35, 92, 121, 208, 245) are automatically picked up, without having to manually enter the Index marker for each and every appearance of the same word in the document? I have created a notepad text draft index with alot of word entries, and I am hoping there is an automated process that I can use to search

When updating the TOC, a new file is generated and my paragraph tag settings are reset.  I have ugly text wrapping that I'm trying to fix; I set my left indent to .75 to push the wrap over and then update the TOC, and the indent setting resets to "0" and the wrapping comes back.  My character designer settings don't reset, why do the paragraph settings reset?Should I not be updating the TOC?  How do I get the setting to remain when updating the TOC? Before updating TOC:  After updating TOC: 

Hi everyone,I've come across an issue I can't fix: when opening an .fm file in FrameMaker I get an error message saying the document has unresolved cross-references. The Find/Change check also shows that all cross-references in the file are broken, but from the Cross-references pod I can jump to the right marker by clicking Go to source.At the same time when I choose to save the book as PDF, these same references in the resulting PDF work just fine: they are clickable and lead exactly to the right location. The .book and the .fm files are all stored locally, so no networking or sharing involved. Markers added automatically, source type for references is Paragraph.Could you please help me figure out how to fix the links that seem to be working just fine?Thanks,Svetlana.

I have added my index back into my book file after it was deleted but the index doesn't update with the book. I believe this an easy fix. Any help?  

This started as a question but it's now an FYI in case others have the same problem as I had until this afternoon.The object properties panel displays graphical objects' width and height in some unit. You can set the unit for the current session by going View > Options and selecting an option for Display Units. However if you close and reopen FrameMaker the units will revert to whatever they were before.The maker.ini file contains the setting UseDisplayUnitInTemplate which the documentation says determines whether or not the default units are taken from the application template.fm or are as defined in the maker.ini file. However I discovered today that even if UseDisplayUnitInTemplate is set to Off, the default units are still taken from the template when an existing document is opened; i.e. the value is not saved in the document you are editing, it's always taken from the template.So I opened the template, changed the units in View > Options, saved the template, and bingo. Every time I update my TOC, I get the "No master pages applied because no master pages exist" error.  Does anyone know what causes that?Any help is greatly appreciated.

My company just upgraded to the 2017 Release (14.0.4.511) of FM. In all previous versions (and my experience goes all the way back to version 2.0 ), when I import a PDF file (or any image file), it places itself in an anchored frame at 100%, spanning columns if needed. In the current version, when I do this, it scales down the image to an apparently random percentage. For example, I just imported the same file three times into the same text flow. One came in at 22.22%, the next at 40.06%, and the last at 45.32%.Is this a bug? How can I get the images to import at full size by default?Thanks.

Hello! I have a huge book file we needed to add some chapters to at the last minute. As such, I had to create new paragraph tags/elements for the new chapters and now I need them to appear in my TOC, LOF, LOT, and LEP. The problem is when I update my book it doesn't ask me if I want to add any other elements anymore - is there a way to add elements so they appear in your auto-generated files? I'm specifically having problems with my LEP. It just updates it. I need to add more paragraph tags!
