FrameMaker

I am using Framemaker 19. I have two separate books and want to know if I can import a section of one book's file into a section of another book's file so that when the 1st document is changed it will update the other book through the update process. In other words, I want to pull a small table from a document file in book 1 and have it linked into a section of a document file in book 2. I know I can do it with source files, but I'm trying to keep from having to manage many numerous sources or having to update information in multiple locations when there are revisions.

When I create an FM book file with components from my ditamap, everything filters correctly as per the ditaval file.When I create an FM composite file from my ditamap, nothing filters at all as per the ditaval file.Any ideas, suggestions, comments?

I am working on a script to search through a document and add gotolink markers to specific text.For example, in this text,  "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing F1, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim F2 minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip T1 ea commodo consequat," F1, F2 and T1 have the character tag "Link" and need the gotolink marker applied. The word "quis" is also a link, but should be skipped as it is not what we are looking for. Thanks to script I've found and help I've received here, I've got a good start, but now I'm stuck. The script loops through and finds all the text with the character tag "link." However, it only read the text and applies the gotolink marker to the first instance. In the example above, If there are three instances of text with the "link" character tag, it will apply  "gotolink  f1" three times to the first instance.This is what I want the script to do.

Good Afternoon. I am running FM 2015 and wish to insert an arrow on an image similar to thosebelow but no matter what format I use I cannot get rid of the white background.This is something I can do in MS Word (sorry) but most of my work is now in FM.  Please can you advise me if it is possible? I removed the background colour from thearrow using Photoshop. Your assistance would be appreciated. I am trying to highlight text in FM, but cannot find a way to do that.  Any ideas?

How to avoid references to images and overall xrefs during opening dita files with ExtendScriptIs there any parameter for that?I'm having problem when I open dita files with extendscript in visible mode. but when I copy the file to different path where it doesn't see images and references then it is okey, so I am thinking to avoid references when I open the file.any thoughts ?

I have downloaded the trial version of FrameMaker 2019 64 bit on my laptop and can not install it. It quits with an error 183. I have checked the system info and I am running Win 10 64 bit. I am installing the english version and in default location. Only it won't install...Can anyone help?Best regardsBjørn

The Arrange Documents menu/icon is not available in FrameMaker 2017 (version 14.0.4.511)If I only have two files open,then I can use Windows Tile to see two documents side by side. If more than two files are open, it tiles all of them. In FM 2015 I could get that view when there were more than two files open by using the Arrange Documents menu. It seems that the workaround in FM 2017 is to only open two files, select Tile, then continue to open the rest ofthe files manually so they are separated between the two windows.

Hi,I inherited scores of frame files with hundreds of embedded graphics.  Does anyone know of a 3rd-party utility thatcan remove the graphics files,  place them in a graphics directory, and then import them by reference into the file(s)?Thanks,--Jim

All of the sudden in a document I'm writing, my Figure Titles have started back at 1 (1-1, 1-2, 1-3, etc and then back to 1-1).Here's a screenshot -- I'm using Text Boxes to overlay the titles with a Paragraph Style applied to the text in each box.It was all working fine until I got to the end of a page that for some reason needed me to add a disconnected page and then connect it to the previous page.What am I doing wrong here?  I checked my Paragraph Designer and the equation looks solid.I'm guessing this has something to do with a text frame being disconnected somehow, but I can't determine which.

I'm using good OLD dzbatcher to automate FrameMaker book builds.  Part of the build requires that I save a FrameMaker 8 FM file to MIF 7.0.FrameMaker 8 provides two save-as MIF options: MIF 8.0 and MIF 7.0, where MIF 8.0 is the default.Does anyone know how to make MIF 7.0 the save-as default?  Failing that, how to remove the MIF 8.0 save-as option which I don't need).

I am working on a script to apply a hypertext marker to text with a specific character tag (Framemaker 19). The script will find the text with the  tag, read the text, and apply the marker. The problem is that it applies the marker to any text with this character tag and I need it to only apply to certain text (F1, T2, etc.). This is why I'm trying to use regex, but it's not working. Hi,I always buy a perpetual licence for all my software so don't upgrade at the drop of a hat unless I see some real benefits. My previous upgrade was from FM8 to 2017 which resulted in some really significant gains.I am a self-employed freelancer and only use Unstructured FM. There's no group access, file sharing, or content management systems to take into consideration, and little likelihood of ever using  'Structured' content. I keep receiving upgrade information from Adobe, but looking at the 'new' features in 2019 I can't immediately see anything that's going to improve my working methods greatly beyond those I currently enjoy using 2017, so I was wondering if I've missed or overlooked something.Any comments as to how 2019 is going to set the world alight in my given circumstances would be most welcome.Thanks.... mike

I publish a document to html5 from FrameMaker 2019. I would like to set a scaling factor to the output, like you can do when printing. Is it possible somehow to make a setting which scales the out to 125% for instance?

One of the participants on the Frameusers list is asking if there are any applications that can import a FrameMaker binary file for the purpose of editing it. The company is a large financial company with tight network security and industry and legal regulations controlling access and authorization. For obvious reasons, the company doesn't want to have programs on its network that have to "call home" for authentication. Unfortunately, they've been unable to get either his previous version of Frame (11) to work or to get the most recent version (2019) to work, but I am unclear as to why they haven't been able to.They are no longer using Frame at his place of business, so all new work is in a different application. However, he still needs to be able to update old files and convert them into the new format. I am unaware of any application that can import .fm files, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm hoping someone here either knows of one or can help provide him with a way to get

Using FrameMaker 12, unstructured.We are changing the corporate font to Corbel. The default Corbel number style is awkward and would like to change it from 'old style' to 'lining'. It is possible in Microsoft apps, in FM, cannot find any options for defining the number stylistic set. Woul appreciate any hints.FM  MS Word

HiI have tried to use the abbreviated-form element but all I get is empty place when publishing PDF. But when I publish the exactly same file in HTML5 I get the wanted output.Is there a limitation with PDF? Or can this be fixed?Another thing related to this is that I have an error mark in my ditamap, console doesn't give any explanation. See the attached pictures. (After publishing I checked the console again and there were marks "condition settings indicator is inconsistent").

I am opening XML files which may have large tables that force the page layout to landscape. But as the table location is just the anchor and not the entire table contents, only the first page on which the table occurs is getting the landscape format. When I apply the master pages via the menu, this problem is corrected. So I tried to call that function after opening the file, but there is no effect. Does anyone have experience with calling the ApplyMasterPages function from a script when opening the file ?Here is the event handler code that fires when opening an XML file. I've had FrameMaker 2019 crash on me multiple times since I installed it yesterday. This is horribly unstable. Today, while inserting a table. it hung briefly, then just shut-down.I'm using Windows 10, OS Build 15063.1508Processor Intel Core i7-7920HQ CPU@3.10GHzRAM 64 GB62 bit OS and x64-based processorI installed the 64 bit version.I haven't yet uninstalled 2015. If 2019 proves to continue to be so unstable, I will have to switch back until the team gets it stabilized. I had hanging issues with 2015, too, but they were different. It would literally hang, and you'd have to kill it. 2019 randomly kills itself. I thought 2015 was misbehaving because of the parallel installation, but the issues continued after I uninstalled 2019. I wasn't having them before the parallel installation.
