FrameMaker

I am using unstructured Frame version 13.0.2.433 and documents with text insets of other full documents so that I can use the same document multiple times in the same book. When I PDF the manual, a blank page shows up at the end of each document with a text inset. I don't want to have to delete these blank pages every time I PDF a book.

I have FM 2017 and cannot see the equations pod listed anywhere. Do I have to install it, or is it turned off now?

Hello all,I write and maintain documentation for two different companies, but the software that I document is used by both. So, I maintain two different documents which are 80% the same. Structure wise, it is exactly the same, it differs in hardware and technical names, some procedures, etc.My question is: does Framemaker 2019 (currently using 2017 but planning an upgrade) allow me to, using variables/conditional/anything else possible for all the differences between the two documents, work with only one .fm file, and through it, produce two different PDFs?Thanks for the help! My laptop just died (CPU failure). Received a new one from work, and am currently installing all of my old application onto it. The new computer is a Windows 10 HP Elite Book G4, i5 7th gen CPU, 120gb M.2 SSD and 20gb of RAM (4 + 16).All the Adobe CC apps installed just fine... then came FrameMaker 2017. The screenshot above shows my error message. It downloads fine, extracts the files pretty quickly, then the installer works for about 5 seconds before this message appears. The Adobe website says that the "Support Advisor" has been discontinued, and I can't find it anywhere. I contacted Adobe Support and after 22 minutes on Chat Support, they just ended the conversation on me without any solution.I've re-downloaded the files 3 times now, I've tried running both the "Framemaker_14_LREFDJ.exe" extractor and the "Set-up.exe" installer, used the "AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.exe", and restarted about 20 times now. After a solid week, I still can not get this to install on my new computer.

Hello.I am using FrameMaker 2015 in Windows 10.We are writing a Reference section that will cover many programming functions. We'd like to use a horizontal rule to separate each section. We will be publishing to PDF and .chm, so the rule needs to expand and contract with the width of the browser window.i know how to create a rule, put it on a Reference page, and attach it to a paragraph format, but that width is fixed. I need a rule that will expand and contract as necessary.How do I do it?All suggestions gratefully received.--Nancy

One of our reasons for wanting to upgrade to FrameMaker 2019 from FrameMaker 11 is that now that we have been moved over to Windows 10, we cannot print PDFs from FrameMaker. I presume that the 64-bit version fixes this, but what about the 32-bit version (we have other products that we need to interact with that only support FrameMaker 32-bit).What are the other differences between 64-bit and 320bit, if any?

Hi,Before you tell me, I know I can refresh the display - but I'm wondering if everyone has this issue and has learned to live with it, or it's something to do with my machine setup. As I've been asked to give advice on specifying a machine to work with FM, I want to check - although my machine meets (exceeds) the specs, the graphics card is basic...I typeset a couple of journals in FM (programming journals, so the tool is appropriate for so many reasons).I get the source articles in all sorts of ways (HTML, markdown, asciidoc, Word, OO...) and I tend to paste-special as text to get the articles in. I have to layout and edit/proofread, so it's as easy to format as I edit...As you can imagine, the white-on-grey means I have to make any corrections to names one at a time, and keep refreshing because I'm effectively typing blind. This one isn't "occasionally" - it is every edit! (What it "should" look like on teh left, what I see while editing on the right.)  In the "text" examples,

I'm evaluating FM2019, hoping to replace FM2015 in structured authoring.I have created 2 books (~1000 pages) - a datasheet for a product my company makes.The bulk of the book (900 pages) contains structured FM files that originated from DITA 1.2 and saved as .fm files.FM2019 opens DITA files significantly faster than FM2015, which get us closer to working with DITA files natively. Not there yet as opening the converted .fm documents is an order of magnitude faster.The performance degradation comes from updating the book. The 2 books have identical content.FM2015 takes 20 seconds to perform an update and FM 2019 x64 takes 55 seconds.The expectation is that 64 bits perform faster not almost 3x slower.The system:Core i5-7440HQ (quad core processor)32GB of RAM (~8GB used)A very fast NVME SSDWindows 10 RS3.Net framework 4.7.2 installed (very important since FM is a .net app)Any suggestions on how to improve FM2019 performance?

Hi,I have been trying to remove the background from an image I copied into a table in FrameMaker 14. I have tried every way I know to remove the white background and nothing works. (There is a white background on this image.) The image was created in Snagit. Is there any particular magic to removing this?Thanks for any help.Cheers,Elizabeth

Will FrameMaker 2019 old FrameMaker files (like FrameMaker 4.0 old)?

Well the 150 pages document is a complete User manual having about 50 images scattered through out the manual. While PDF generation is going on, CPU load is about 50% and RAM usage is about 5 GB out of 8 GB. Similar looking document in FM 2011 of same length takes about 1.5-2 hours on same machine. Is there anything wrong in FM 2015? We cannot ask for a favor from client any more.  Please suggest a solution. Thanks in advance.

HiI try to build conditional content for example for different target audiences. I have used DITAVAL and I'm able to exclude content when saving the book with fm components (which is good). But when I try to take this further and use another options like background color to highlight the conditioned parts (would be nice for review) but this doesn't work.See the example of one of my test ditaval files. I have tried to use different selections (for example flag) but nothing happens. Is there an error or is this function just not working?I have tried also the filter by attribute but not any success there. I have understood that it works only on topic level, is that true? Don't like that option as there you must change the settings on topic level after review (always a place for user errors).I have 2019 version.

The XML schema we are using maps two different elements onto FrameMaker cross-references. One of them is a link to an ID elsewhere in this or another document, and the other is a footnote reference (where e.g. a table has two footnotes, and multiple cells in the table share the same footnote). The two types of cross reference have their own element tags and formats, on loading an XML document the elements are mapped to the correct type of cross-reference via rules, and when a document is saved the cross-references are translated back into link and footnoteref elements with all the appropriate attributes and content. When I change the curly double quotation marks in one of the standard cross-reference formats to single curly quotation marks, the opening (left-hand) quotation mark displays as a closing (right-hand) quotation mark. Is there a work-around to enter in the x-reference definition field that will correct this?Thanks for any help.... mike

Win 7, FM 2015 Is it possible to place a graphic on a page with a numbered caption and have it stay in the same place on the same page even if editing before and after is done? Anchored frames don't work because they constantly move around, Graphic frames don't work because the caption is out of the flow and won't update and tables won't work because you have to chose flow to avoid white space.  Is there an answer I am overlooking? I am a novice.
